They're great for when you don't want it to be tampered with - most cars today still use them to hold the steering column lock/ignition cylinder so a thief can't just hop in and unscrew it real easy. Not sure why they used them here to mount the column unless clearance to the gauges was an issue.
A few tips: 1. Use cutting/tapping fluid when tapping holes. It will be easier to do, less chance of breaking a tap, and cleaner final result. 2. Drill a small hole and use a cotter pin to prevent those handles from slipping out of place on the stand. 3. These old Porsches have a short wheelbase and are famous for snap oversteer. Getting a good weight balance will be very important to drivability/safety. Think very carefully about where you position the heavy components, especially batteries.
Still using the OG intro, its been a minute since ive been here, love the video! And this project reminds me of a sleeper build, looks old, is new. (I know that the 911 is a pretty fast car but now, its becoming electric!)
This is the stuff! Love the plan the owner has for it, would absolutely love to have one like that, with slight backdating it will be gorgeous! Looking forward to the series.
Very exciting. I am looking at doing the same type of project. I converted a VW Split window bus a few years ago but want to do something sporty like the 911.
Wow man - this 1 is gonna be a huge build, especially if you are doing alot of the paint and panel, and interior!. Looking forward to seeing this progress!!
Your welding looks pretty damn good to me so I don't know how it could be any better !!!!!!!!!!!! I never have any trouble with my snow blower but I keep it tuned up and I use Sta-Bil in the gas so the gas doesn't go bad !!!!!!!!!!
Sooo excited for this build! Back in the early 2000s, I was talking a Project and Change management class, and we had a project to come up with a new product based on an existing one. I pitched an all electric Porsche 911 and the instructor told me I was crazy because no one would want that type of a car. I guess someone actually new what was what. Looking forward to this one (the others are fun as well).
Fun project! This is one for me to enjoy watching. I have a 1960 Karmann Ghia convertible, which I've wanted to restore and build as an EV for a long time now.
GREAT video as usual. i also have an electric snow blower. i use the toro 60 volt system and have electric mower, trimmers, etc. works well and no bad fuel and no oil changes. bill c
Ethanol could be your problem with the snowblower. It doesn't work well in small engines. Use high octaine gas with no ethanol. You may have to drain the carb as well.
Those are breakoff bolts. You tighten them until they shear at a designated place, so that there is a proper torque, and no one can take them out. Usually used to secure key cylinders in cars.
Love their channel. I am glad that this chassis is rust free. YCR spends 90% of their restoration fixing the rust. Definitely a lot of useful info on that channel when it comes to classic car restoration/restomod.
Tip for the snowblower, I have a battery power as well. Connect the charger to a smart outlet and then set an Alexa routine (assuming you have alexa) to charge the batteries for 1 hr, 3 days a week (even during non winter months) This way they batteries are always charged and healthy and you dont have to worry about them draining down during the summer months.
Since they just chopped up an expensive harness, I'm sure they didn't label, bag and document all the parts they removed. Nothing like finding out that little. pin, or clip you lost is now Unobtainium. Porsche tax is one thing, the rare part Porsche tax is insane at times.
This is going to be an interesting build. They pretty much just left you grommets to pass things through. Another Porsche to work on will be great. Are they coming up to help with the work, and learn what the systems are like to deal with?
Jeremy, have you guys decided what motor and battery setup you are going with on this build? I've seen a Tesla SDU rear motor in a Boxter, but the LDU didn't quite fit. Wonder how similar they frame dimensions are here... Thanks for the cool projects and best of luck!
Conversion kit is 75k plus shipping and only certified shops can do the install(100+ hours). You get the base LDU because their batteries can't handle the power draw of the sport or ludicrous LDU.
Just remember to take some time off when you need it. It sucks when you start getting burned out with work. I've been there and done that and it's not fun.
I always think of condorman and the bad guys slant nose turbos all joked out with limo tint, when I see this vintage of a Porsche! Maybe contact electric classic cars&or felton ev? As they both offer drop in bolt on ev conversion kits for these year Porsches?
Nice all the work you put inn it.. but i would like to se it have the 6pistion engine inn it.. but everyvone have there ovn taste :) sure will miss the engine sound!
Owner of the car here. Would love the dip the car but Im not aware of anyone in Utah doing it. The closest one is in Oregon. Let me know if you know of anyone close enough.
I really appreciate that you moved the Ad part more to the middle of the video. I usualy really like all your videos, but for quite a while you started off with an Ad, which often resulted in me losing all interest in the video, even though I was interested first. I like this a lot more, thank you :)
They cut the wiring!!! That is going to be painful. I spend 20 times the amount time repairing and replacing the main harnesses than I do on the actual conversion. If they can find a new harness it will cost more than the batteries. Hopefully they still have the sections they cut out, so you patch them back together well enough the use it as a pattern to create a new harness.
Owner of the car here. The original harness is still available and all of the wiring diagrams have been acquired prior to cutting the wires. Car is very analog: no power windows, no power seats. 90% of the wiring goes to the engine and trying to separate the remaining 10% is a pain. OEM wiring harness for the specific areas like headlights and windshield wipers are available for $100, full interior harness is $400, back is another $100. Keeping a 50 year old harness and chasing the gremlins is silly when brand new parts are widely available and well documented.
This is going to need a LOT more space than what you have. You're bouncing around a lot. What about the "stuff" you've already started? FWIW, there’s a no- brainer kit available for this exact conversion.
The bolt with the rounded head is a breakaway bolt. The head of it snaps off when torqued leaving the rounded part. They are not intended to be reused
One of the stupidest invention ever
They're great for when you don't want it to be tampered with - most cars today still use them to hold the steering column lock/ignition cylinder so a thief can't just hop in and unscrew it real easy. Not sure why they used them here to mount the column unless clearance to the gauges was an issue.
What a nice project !
These classic car conversations are great! Can't wait to see the results!
This one is going to be sweet! And it doesn’t even need a lot of power to make it fun!! Going to be a cool drivers car

Love that gen and god that’s a lot of work you’re going to be doing. I hope you charge enough and this gets you more viewers and subscribers.
Appreciate that!
2:18 Hey who doesn't like a challenge. LOL :D

Great to see the rotisserie in action!
One of my favourite porsche bodies ever made. Im gonna enjoy every video of this project.
Yeah, love these!
This is a nice new project. Looking forward to it. I also noticed your welds have gotten better looking.
Nice project 👌 love the old Porsche 😀
As a Porsche owner myself, this is going to be epic!
YAY! Another project! this is AMAZING! can't wait to her more about it...
More to come!
This is going to be Awesome!!!!
Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Appreciate the support!

Right on!
I'm no welder, but those welds are looking clean!
Beautiful welds Jeremy!
Thanks 👍

Awesome project!
Try looking at the ECC Chanel, the kit is top notch 👍🏼

@@gabrielmejia1068 nice!
Looking forward to this one!
Great to see you have a new project and your new business is going well.
Thanks!

Wow, welds look great now.
Thanks friend!
Wow man - this 1 is gonna be a huge build, especially if you are doing alot of the paint and panel, and interior!. Looking forward to seeing this progress!!
@15:04 they are security bolts, you tighten them until the head breaks off, it makes it more difficult to steal the car
*breaks.
@@zaprodk thanks I was a little drunk when I commented

Definitely enjoy your start to finish videos showing everything it takes to do the job.
Nice project

Exciting new project
Really cool project! Hope you're not overextending yourself 😂
I am!
Resto Mod is what I would call it ..
I think I have the old chiltons for those years in the shed they used to have the wiring diagram in there ..
Or elktromods!
You are in for a LOT of work, enjoy it! I had traumatic flashbacks to when I restored my 914 and converted it to electric.
This should be a sick restoration!
Incredible👏 loving your channel! I’ve been subbed since three workspaces ago and the projects just get bigger and better. Keep up the great work!
I can’t tell if the customer is a little insane or has great vision. Maybe both.
But honestly, such a cool project. Super excited to see the result.
Owner of the car here. Probably both, electric Singer is the goal. Will piss a lot of Porsche purists off but hey my car my choices.
@@EV911WIIC you sir are an inspiration! Can’t wait to see it!
Zoinks! How many builds do you have going now? This 911, your Cayman, the Nissan thing, that Jeep thing, and the Hilux?
I need more help!
Looks like a good project but a lengthy one. Better to strip out all the wiring and start fresh. Swap to led lights for a more modern vibe.
cutting this wires was pure barbarity :)

Nice Porsche. Were it mine I would modernize it a bit, technically as well as optically.
I don't know if you mentioned it, but it looks like some of the wires were cut. Good luck, that's quite a project!

No way. This is huge. The owner gutting it first will probably make it much easier to work on. Oh wait, the wires are probably a big problem…

Better to strip the body bear if you're going to sandblast. That stuff gets everywhere. Especially in places you don't want it.

LDU is the plan
As you know, the complete kit to convert it is available from the Britain company Electric Classic Cars in Wales.
