People really didn't care about wildlife in the past, they were extremely cruel to animals. It's a lesson we have to learn from and improve our ways of treating wildlife and nature.
it makes sense during those periods, people didnt care about animals and their mind was only focused on survival considering time back then was much worse than it is now, similar to some poachers they hunted the rare animals to feed them selves and their families
@soudino2723 Well the natural humans generally were sustainable with food acquisition so they may eat a few. But by the time they are dwindling, theyre being hunted across the earth by a minority of ppl trying to exploit a rare market niche. It's like a gamble to get rich. In other cases it's political, like the US government specifically made a policy to destroy the bison in 19th century, to starve the American Indians of the Great Plains, because the US wanted their land. Ppl said bison used to be so numerous youd look out and it look like a carpet of undulating brown for mile. There are pics of mountains of dead and skulls. They almost went extinct.
These kinds of hunting activities back then are one of the reasons why I wanted to time travel. 😅 Maybe to help prevent the extinction of the species in an unnatural way. 😢
Iceland had a bad record with the bird. They hunted the bird to decimated levels. Then 3 idiots killed the last chance and last hope for the species, just because they wanted money.

We have since built museums to celebrate the past, and spend decades studying prehistoric lives. And if all this has taught us anything, it is this: no species lasts forever. F off extinction rebellion
It is true, in fact, through the history of life on this planet, the overwhelming majority of life has gone extinct. Extinction is natural, until it's not. At the current rate, we're not just experiencing individual loss of species, but the loss of a whole biodiversity. The disappearance of keystone species might collapse the entire food chain, food that humans also depend on. The comprehensive argument about biodiversity loss will be presented in an upcoming video.
*_Nothing_* lasts forever. But that does not make it right to give a f*** about everything or even to destroy things just because we want to. Everyone you know will die sometime. Does that mean your grief when it happens is meaningless or to be shunned? Does it make it wrong to try to prevent the early death of those people or to keep them healthy to live longer? Saying nothing matters is just a convenient way to avoid responsibilities and problems, to stay ignorant so you don't have to think about those things or take action. Because when you accept that it matters you may have to, since ignoring the problem after accepting it's existence will make you feel bad.
I wouldn't say puffin, because it was not a puffin. But it was part of the group Alcidae which includes the puffin. So they have similar ways of living.
the irony of the great auk's attempted conservation efforts is depressing
Yeah, I agree. The awareness of species extinction in the pre-19th century Europe was still very low.
Its crazy how, in response to hunting one bird to extinction, people opted to hunt a different bird into extinction.
