That's one heavy built boom! Those welds are pretty slick! I love to weld. I just got home from welding on my buddies dump truck and started watching TH-cam
Nice build, Jonathan. I've been look'n at this in your Past vid's (& other's too) Man, you have to much going on my friend with all your build's. This build will be a Nice Wrecker when finished up and on a Conventional Truck.....the only truck to have!
Old tow man 50 + years I cut my eye teeth on a 525 & W,35 & W 45 those were. the power house of Holmes in the day I have a couple of hydrologic wreakers but for getting the job done I use my old International Loadstar old Air Force 750 Holmes pulled out 210 excavator last night 2 snatch blocks out in 45 minutes good job on your build I thought about a build similar with a 600 Holmes Kemp in B" ham , Alabama has a machine shop they have been doing 750 builds since late 70' s a lot of guys in the southeast states have a Kemp they claim you cannot bend the boom if it can be bent they need to let me test it some of my recoverys I have bent the boom on a Holmes 500 on 68 Ford 600 had a boom built out of oil field pipe stem still there that was in 1978 good luck I hope you the best
The Power Tower looks super solid!!! The barrel on that boom is off the hook!!! You really did this one up right Jon...gotta see the finished product!!!! I'm not too familiar with the 525, but the Power Tower reminds me of a "split boom" like the 440...plus you got 2 winches which makes me wonder if the 525 was a split boom like the 440. However that tower looks like it can definitely handle your hydraulic boom set up EASY!!! You grabbed my brain on this build!!! LOVE IT!!!!!! Aloha
+Kohala Iron Works (Chief) Same as a Holmes 480, just a little bigger. Winches are basically the same as a 600 with a different braking system. It was a split boom originally.
there's something to be said for living next door to your shop! I wish that I lived next door to my shop, I would spend more time there, and get more done! but the family would be mad at me, the old lady is still at the point she wants to spend as much time with me! I just wish she wanted to build things with me! John be appreciative of your old lady!
+aaron schoessow My wife is very understanding. She was not when we first married. We was very poor and when I bought my first junk car for $20 she was mad. When I sold it for $40, she was still mad because I spent the $20. We was in a bind and I was getting ready to go to work and I told her I would make a little extra money that day. She couldn't figure out how, but I loaded a few pieces of junk (that included a set of double hump 186 casting heads) in my car and when I came home that day I had a pocket full of money. She began to understand that things have value even if they look like junk to some folks. I totally understand that some folks couldn't or wouldn't live with a bunch of junk around. I couldn't live in an apartment with a lot of people around..
+aaron schoessow Man, I'm not trying to be Mean, Judging you or Nothing. I'm just say'n ya shouldn't call your wife an 0l' lady. That term Is Not becoming to a Lady that Loves you.
+Danny Walker well I do& she knows I mean it in a loving way! just like my Dad is my old man! he called his dad that! and as a 42 year old man he still refers to me as the kid! lol! I wouldn't have it any other way!
0k, like I said I wasn't trying to be ugly, smart, or anything. I just don't like to hear it being said to the one's that gave birth to ya (or me). sorry I offend ya (if I did). = (
yes john I hear you! my family was poor my GPA died at 54 years old and they had 11 kids. great GPA owned blacksmith shops hear in Wisconsin like 4 of them, so when my GPA got sick with emphysema, he bought one of them from his dad! my dad and his brothers worked there so the family had money to live on! my dad and his brothers started scrapping cars, and building trailers! they had a car trailer that would haul 12 big old cars to Miller in Milwaukee Wisconsin! Now they own SI FEEDERS! Over the years we have built over 80 miles of feeders! Of the grand kids I'm the one that still uses the forge and anvil I love metal working! the rest of them could care less about it they would rather buy something than make it! You are an inspiration John! Thanks for being real! I hope your kids have learned something from you! The wise old man! lol
God has blessed you Jonathan, my goodness. This is a work of pure art. Thank you for letting us review your work.
