      I'm glad the video was useful. It's strange how many people have had the same issue with that corner. I guess it must be something to do with the weight distribution. I hope you can patch it up okay.

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring I hope so too. I'll definitely give it a try here soon using your method with the greaseproof paper. I thought that the delivery must have damaged the box but after watching your video and reading some comments, it seems to be a fairly common occurrence. I think you're probably right about the weight distribution. I wonder if Hasbro is aware of this defect?

      It's probably still a very small number from the complete run, so even if they are aware I doubt they will change anything. I think the only thing they really could do is switch to a different card for the box for subsequent runs.

    Thanks for the time you have taken to film both this and the original heroquest restoration! Its inspired me to do the same with my own 35 year old copy! One question, what made you choose sharpie? did you try any others? i.e. acrylic gloss paint - thinking citadel paints or similar?

      I find Sharpie a good option. It tends to match up well, it's easy to apply, it's always going to be a smooth finish and it tends to wear better than paint. However, you can always try experimenting with different options. You may prefer something else.

    Well done. Looks much improved now. As the boxes come without shrink wrap foil the surfaces are prone to scratching damages. HASBRO could do better for the price of the game...

    Mine's not nearly that bad, but similar issue.
    the bigger problem is they shipped my Kellar's Keep/Witch Lord together and some psychopath in the shipping department decided they should be taped together with shipping tape. I managed to get it off, but it ripped a bit of the Witch Lord cover. Aggravated....

      Yikes. Whoever did that needs some retraining. If you ever have tape on a box, the best thing to do is heat it with a hairdryer. It will soften up the glue and you can gently peel it off. Normally you won't get any damage or residue that way.

    Greaseproof paper? Parchment / Cooking paper in U.S.?

      Yeah, baking paper or parchment paper - the stuff you line cake tins with. It prevents anything sticking together that shouldn't stick together (like the box lid with your tabletop).

    why fabric softener over say distilled/demineralized water ?

      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can use any liquid that isn't going to leave staining or tide lines (it's always a good idea to run a test first). There's a few reasons I use fabric freshener (not fabric softener) - 1. I always have it around the house, and I like to do restorations with things people are likely to have readily available. 2. I'm often restoring old games that may smell a little musty, so it just freshens them up a bit.

    I know some people in the states have had to call customer service to have boards replaced.

      I have heard a few stories of damaged boards, miniatures, and dice. Considering the size of the print run, it isn't surprising some things were damaged, but I was lucky and got a set that was fine apart from the box corner that blew out somewhere in transit.
