I remember when I was in graduate school I was trying to duplicate my grandmother's golden chicken gravy and dumplings and I couldn't get it. I was talking to my sister and she said she added yellow food coloring drops. I asked her why and she said "you didnt think Grandma's gravy was naturally that color did you?!"😅
I love watching your Sunday videos - they inspire me to use what's in my pantry-freezer & frig - making combinations I wouldn't have thought of as I meal prep for the work week
I am so excited. This is my mom's recipe. I have made it in the crockpot, but rarely. You are correct that all of the egg noodles get added when we do it on the stove top. But like you did, I do the noodles on the side when I use the crockpot, because I just don't have the confidence to do noodles in the crockpot. In lieu of oil, my mom uses butter. The only seasoning she uses is salt. It's a very delicate, mild soup as you said. The egg noodles and evaporated milk add a luxury and comfort to the simplicity. I have tried other versions; added more seasonings, chicken, cheese, hamburger, etc... but my family usually prefers my mom's original recipe. I'm very glad you enjoyed it. The stove top version usually takes me about an hour start to finish. The extra bonus of this lovely simple soup is its frugality.
@@ArdentMichelle I love the tweaks you shared (learning recipes can be tweaked was how I finally learned to enjoy cooking.) I love the versatility and the frugalness of a simple soup.
You are teaching me restraint. We try to “use up” smaller quantities in the refrigerator but if I divide those in half or thirds we have less calories & the food last longer! Thanks!
I bought a second hand slow cooker last winter. Haven't used it as much as I want. My favorite so far is lentil soup with red lentils, Garam masala, curry, chili, salt, water and crushed tomatos. On medium for 8 hours in mine were perfect. So good! Very easy to put together in the morning and you have dinner ready when you get home. Thanks for reminding me to use mine a bit more!!
2 chicken breast's, boneless 1 C salsa 2C black beans 1 packet taco seasoning 4 hrs high or 7 low. Shred chicken with forks. You can use it for tacos, burritos, salads, bowls, whatever
I'm an avid crockpot user - just made some chicken tortilla soup subbing in chiozo instead of the chicken - threw together onions - 1/2 can of kidney beans - a can on diced tomatoes - 1/2 can of corn - a half of taco spice packet & frozen homemade chicken broth - when it's done I'll top it with avocado & tortilla chips - most of these ingredients I had opened in my frig - so thanks again for the inspiration - hope your week goes well.
Excellent Michelle. I have a cute 1.5 litre CP. It makes about 3 large portions which is perfect for a singleton like me. Thanks also for the info about using evaporated milk which you can apparently freeze unlike double cream. Incidentally I have a smart meter for my electricity and the Crockpot doesn't even register on it unlike any other heating gadget/cooker so it's an extremely frugal way to cook too.
So that must mean you can freeze the finished soup? That large quantity of soup would need to be frozen in single portions for me and I like the idea of using evaporated milk but wondered if it could be frozen.
Great looking soup! MY husband would love this, I plan to try it out ASAP, thank you for posting. Its always a joy to watch your videos when they come out.
Your soup looks interesting. I mean, I don't do poultry. But the veggies look great! I have a crackpot somewhere. Maybe some Saturday I will use it. I have been wanting soup. I keep thinking of Pasta e Fagioli. 😊 But I also heard of zucchini tomato soup with onion and spices that I want to try. Hmm, the choices are endless.
That chicken gravy looked so good! And the holy trinity actaully refers to onions, celery and bell peppers, which is the starter for most Cajun recipes, where the carrot is replaced with the bell pepper. Thank you for your hard work in getting these vids made! I look forward to watching you every Sunday!!!
I've heard that, and I do want to try that combo. It might be fun to work our way through the famous trio of each country. There are so many and they each sound delicious!
So excited to get out my crock pot and make soups after watching your video. I look forward to Sunday mornings to see what you are making. My husband loves it too! Have a great week everyone.
I love to make potato soup in the crock pot. I always blend about half of it to make it creamy! I also make noodles on the side and then add to soup so as to not get mushy!😁
I have a large slow cooker. One of my favorite things to do is cook a whole chicken in it. Put the chicken on some balled up aluminum foil and cook on high. Easy roast chicken. My Walmart also sells unsalted chicken broth. You may want to look for it in yours.
Hi Michelle, your meals look delicious! I use my crock pot about once a week mostly for roasts withe potatoes, carrots, onions s&p and garlic powder and chicken broth. . I fry about 1/2 the onions first. It gives it a nice rich flavor.
My brother made a crockpot recipe with chicken breasts and a bottle of each Italian and French dressing. Sounds weird but tastes delicious!! Thx so much, really enjoy your channel ❤
I love to make pinto beans and split pea soup in a slow cooker. I have an IP now so I use saute function first but I used to start the mirepoix in a pan on the stove and that worked. Yes it’s one more step but I really prefer to have some level of sear or caramelization on my veggies before they simmer in broth. I often use a hamhock but I’ve also done both vegan using smoked paprika and soy sauce to add some depth. Both have so much protein the meat is only flavor
Whenever I make a big crockpot of beans, I always start it before going to bed and it's done in the morning. I usually only cook meat in the crockpot when I am going to be home, but after seeing this I might try it over night. Both looked delicious!! Thank you!!
my mom used to make a simple soup (simple other than peeling the potatoes because my dad refused to eat potatoes with the skins on... sigh..) but it was canned tomatoes, diced potatoes (he wouldn't eat carrots either), and onion. she'd make cornbread with it because my dad wouldn't eat anything without meat unless it was 'country' cooking with cornbread. her other version of it was when we had leftover roast she'd sometimes make this soup with pieces of roast in it. When I make it I like carrots in it and I like to use the petite diced tomatoes so they're smaller in the mouth LOL! and I don't peel the taters 'cause I don't want any other meat (from my fingers) in the soup! thought I'm not adverse to using frozen or something. and good with rotel tomatoes!
I love crock pot dinners. Getting the gravy thicker can be a challenge. I remove the protein from the crockpot, ladle the drippings to a pot, and then thicken it on the stove top like you did. Add that back to the crockpot, stir well, THEN reintroduce the protein. This works great with things like Mongolian Beef or Buffalo Chicken where you don't want the dish to be mushy. Looking forward to your decorating updates! You have an eye for making affordable food look good on the plate, and I know your kitchen update will be a visual feast as well.
Thanks so much for sharing your method.😁 I'm not doing anything too big with the decor, but I thought I would share it with you all. Keep your expectations low please 😂
I just started using evaporated milk in a lot of my recipes recently I just made corn chowder. It’s such a simple soup to make and using the evaporated milk made it even more decadent. The best part was the soup was made with leftovers. Thanks for your channel.
Thanks for a great video. I like to make vegan meatball stew in the crock pot. It is a hearty stew with potatoes and mixed vegetables. Some bread with butter and herbs under the broiler makes a good side. Happy week!
Hi Cathie 😁 Hope you like the soup as much as we did. 😁I loved it. Was wishing I would have kept more out without the milk because I didn't have enough.
Looks good and simple. Another starch people don't use as much that might have been tasty in a fish like this is hominy. And hominy is really excellent in soups. What a thoughtful crockpot gift, ypur perfect size!
Great point! I've been thinking about that Mexican soup I made once with the hominy. It was so good! I always forget about hominy. Thanks for the reminder.
Ditto on the potato soup. It was one of the my favorite meals when growing up (potatoes, onions, water, salt & pepper, and then evaporated milk added towards the end. We also had potato pot pie, which was basically the same with a little less water. At the end my mom would top it with drop or regular biscuits, move it to the oven, and bake until the biscuits were done.
Good morning Michelle. Happy Sunday. I have 6 crockpots, of various sizes; I know it sounds excessive but we do accumulate things thru the years. 😊 Starting with a crockett that I received as a gift many years ago. I use that one to make warm fruit compotes; using apples, raisins, cranberries, cranraisins even bananas at times. Makes a nice addition to my oatmeal or a nice dessert. One of them is divided so that you can prepare 2 different dishes at the same time. I bought them as Xmas gifts for everyone in the family years ago when I was working. I even have 2 casserole shaped crockpots.😅 I don't use them that often since I retired but they were perfect when I was working. A "trick" that I used was to prepare all the ingredients in the crockpot the night before then put the insert in in the morning on low and my food was ready when I got home. It was especially nice during the cold, snowy winter months to come home to house that smelled warm and inviting.
Hi Pat 😁 I do have an emotional response to a good crockpot so I'm feeling homey just imagining you with your 6 crockpots -1 for every occasion 😂 I love fruit compotes. Yum!
Along with a slurry and instant potatoes as thickening options, the soup can also be thickened by mashing some of the potatoes or pureeing some of the vegetation .
I made the potato, carrot & onion soup without the noodles today. 😋 Recently I made soup with black beans, corn, red lentils, tomato & red pepper, it was kinda like a chili but also a tortilla soup, I made it on the stove but I think it would work great in a slow cooker. And maybe you can make those tortilla thingies in the air fryer 💚🌱
About 15 years ago my mom bought me a 6-quart crock pot. It was just me and my daughter but I worked full-time and had a pretty big commute so I would make a lot of food and we would eat it for a couple days. My mom passed away like 10 years ago. And last month I went to pull up the Crock-Pot to make some taco soup. Well that Crock-Pot didn't work anymore I tried whatever I could to reset it but basically it had ran its course because I used it for a long time. During Amazon October prime days I came across a deal for an 8 QT Crock-Pot. $60. Granted I live alone now my daughter is 22 and is on her own now. But I've made some things in it Froze some for her. I'm a vegetarian so basically I just make soups. Until I watched your channel I never would have thought to add instant mashed potatoes as a thickener. Anyways I love your content and keep the videos coming whenever you have time 🙂
Yay, a crockpot vid! Something I do often here in SE Texas and in our notoriously long summer temps. Using that thicker breast and submerging it in the broth is great for avoiding overcooking dryness. I've done the cornstarch thickening a few times, mostly with Asian dishes, and it seems to work best while the pot is still on high and liquid is bubbling. Takes way longer if it has to come back to that stage. Definte yes on the eval milk, it is the best, and so is the shelf stable milk from Dollar stores. As always many thanks for this one!👍💌☺
Great video Michelle thank you for sharing I love using my crockpot year-round but I do use it a lot more in these cooler months I'm going to do ham and beans tomorrow actually great big hugs 🖤
I love soups, usually I prefer making them on the stove as opposed to my crockpot now that I’m retired, it’s comforting to have it simmering and I enjoy stirring it throughout the late afternoon and having all that delicious aroma. I enjoy your channel so much❤️
I love crockpot cooking, I've used mine several times already. I try to get up early and get stuff started because I prefer cooking on low, especially chicken. I also like using evaporated milk in my soup and buy a case of it at Costco. I laughed when you were putting the chicken meal in the glass containers and then noticed a carrot and a potato disappear, I think you popped it in your mouth 🤣🤣 anyway have a super week. Charlotte
I love your soft comforting voice in your videos. I am encouraged by this to invest in a crock pot myself, but I live alone and am wondering whether there is such a thing as a dinner for one crock pot, or maybe just enough for one meal and possible a second of leftovers. I don't really enjoy making a vat of soup or stew that I end up having to eat for 4 or 5 consecutive nights of meals. And I don't have much space to freeze things in my refrigerator. Do you think you might have some meals for one recipes inclduing some that use a crockpot? They would be very much appreciated by me. (I notice you buy produce in bulk but my veg. bought that way spoils or goes bad before I have a chance to use it. I'd like to buy single items for cooking like one small onion, one tomato, can one buy just a single stalk or two of celery (? I don't think so). Please advise.
@@toadstooltarot Yes there are 1.5 & 2 qt. Crockpots. And even smaller ones. Just Google crockpots for 1. Have you considered buying single servings of precut veggies? It's usually celery and carrots but cauliflower and broccoli are offered too..
@@toadstooltarot Yes they do make small crockpots. Just Google crockpots for 1. As for the veggies, perhaps you can purchase single servings of precut veggies.....
I just bought a slow cooker but I’m considering gifting it to my daughter. I am faster than the slow cooker no pun intended. I can cook soup in an hour and that’s with chicken. I prefer the pressure cooker. Your soup looks delicious.
I'm contemplating getting a pressure cooker if I get any gift cards for Christmas, but I do like the way the crockpot cooks everything so perfectly, especially vegetables.
I think you throw the cornstarch in at the end so that you keep the moisture in while you're cooking the soup. So that it doesn't stick to the sides of the pot. From Allrecipes I make "braised chicken with tasty mirepoix ragout" and you're right. The aroma fills the house! I do have to watch the sodium on that one, because I try to eat low sodium and at this point, I can't take super salty foods anymore. So instead of four cups of stock, I would use two cups of reduced sodium and two cups no salt added
Thank you my friend for another great inspirational video. Time for me to get the crockpot out. One of my favorite things to make is a beef stew. A whole poached chicken works well too. Not pretty but it’s so moist and makes its own soup stock. Not a fan of corn starch for health reasons. Potato can thicken or potato starch. I find the best gravies start with a roux. Have a great week. 💟
Re: thickening crockpot soups... Instead of using a cornstarch slurry you can use instant mashed potato flakes. Use 1 tablespoon of potato flakes per 1 cup of liquid.
I love that potato soup you made , but we don't eat ours with noodles. I know the chicken is delicious but my family doesn't like breast meat because no matter what, it turns out dry , stringy . I use thighs the meat texture is wonderful, and I debone the meat and save the bones for homemade bone broth. Thank you for sharing the uses of a crockpot. God bless you 🙏 ❤🎉
My super flexible crockpot chili 1-2 pounds of soaked beans or 1-3 cans of beans. Any variety but black red or pinto are my favorites. 1-2 cans of tomato products such as tomato sauce tomato paste minced crushed or whole or marinara sauce. Onion and garlic to taste fresh is best but whatever. . . Chili powder 1/4 cup at least, salt and pepper. optional other spices curry powder, cumin to taste. Optional add in ground browned meat or cooked chicken or small chunks of steak or turkey, it's also yummy with a can of corn in it. If it's not spicy enough add a few drops of your favorite hot sauce to the bowl. The smallest version of this Chill feeds 4-5 for one meal, costs about 2-3$ largest version with meat and lots of beans less than 10 and could feed a huge crowd. Canned beans cook faster and could be served in about an hour, from Dry soaked cook at least 4 hours. If cooking from dry unsoaked cook about 8 hours. Chilli powder adds a lot of distinctive chilli flavor without heat so don't be shy with it. Just don't mistake it for red pepper. It's not the same thing.
Adding variety of beans (I like at least three types and my favorite is black beans) in chili. I think giving variety in the beans allows for less use of meat and is a real money savor. I've done it often meatless, as well.
During this time of year, I love to also add one 15 oz can of pumpkin puree with some pumpkin spice and one seeded (or not) jalapeno. Makes great version of chili with leftovers used to make burritos or even over baked potatoes, of course, as I always make a pot with leftovers in mind.
Lovve those “flexible recipes” they use what up you already have, taste different each time, (which is really nice! You can try out different textures from diced tomatoes to condensed soup) and it also creates confidence ❤
If anyone is lactose intolerant you can use a roux with lactose free milk to make soups creamy instead of using a product that you are not suppose to have. Oh, you asked me if the lactose free feta cheese was good…and it is. I really enjoyed it in my salad. I have seen so many slow cooker recipes and have tried a couple of them out. Of course the slow cooker is great for tuff pieces of protein. Anytime you can cook something low and slow it is going to be tender. I usually will cook up enough chicken for casseroles, soups and enchiladas with sour cream sauce. One thing you can make is the buffalo chicken pasta in the crockpot. Also, a chicken Mediterranean style pasta, using the bow tie pasta. You can even cook a whole chicken, a ham or small portion of turkey like a tenderloin for Thanksgiving for smaller families. I made homemade applesauce in mine. Plus, I use my slow cooker all year long…it doesn’t heat up your house like the oven and is one appliance that uses less energy than most. I will make up a gumbo out of my turkey that is leftover with some smoked sausage and freeze it for Christmas Eve dinner. I just place it in the slow cooker to reheat while we went to church. Then cooked the rice in a rice pot when we got home, had my garlic French bread ready to go into the oven and a nice green salad to serve with it and dessert. Everything is made ahead of time so you can enjoy your family and friends. Don’t forget to buy some File’ for those to use if they want it.
Also anyone who is gluten free can use rice flour, corn starch, arrowroot, and more instead of wheat flour to make roux as well. There are some great recipes. I’m Cajun and dark roux is a common base in saucy dishes and I’ve gotten to where I don’t notice the difference
So true…I have even tried quinoa as a rice substitute in gumbo before. It wasn’t that bad! We do what we have to in order to take care of ourselves! And yes you are right…it is all what we get used to to. Does that mean quinoa is great in gumbo like rice. No, but still isn’t that bad. I still prefer rice, but I can still enjoy it with the quinoa. Main thing is to do is find a compromise that we can adjust to and help our bodies, and our tastebuds and memories that food brings us. 😌
My family has deep roots in LA and MS. So I understand how you cook…because I cook like my grandmother taught me. Wonderful food, but not always the healthiest! Lol
@ Have you tried the lactose pills that are over the counter? They didn’t work for me, but other people say they work for them. Have you tried lactate milk? I just use the members mark brand from Sam’s. Everyone is different so just try experimenting around with different products. I can eat the Jarlsburg cheese they have at Sam’s, on the label it states that it is naturally lactose free…and it is real cheese! It is a Swiss cheese which I usually can’t eat…so I think it has something to do with how long it is aged. The Daiya brand in the sliced American flavor has a texture the most similar to regular cheese, and melts great. This way you can make a cheese cream sauce for soups, Mac & Cheese, and scalloped potatoes or vegetables.
The 1st soup reminded me of a pot pie. Maybe add dumplings instead of noodles? I didn't know there was a 4qt size. I do a basic onion, celery, tomaoes, cabbage soup with any kind of broth. It becomes a dumping ground for leftovers; squash, mixed vegs, carrots, spinach. I add bay leaf to soups because it helps blend the flavors, kinda like eating it the next day does. That soup got me through college. I used to always have Filipino adobo (wet style) once a week in a crock pot using the cheapest protein I could find (chicken quarters). Tons of recipes on line. Basically soy sauce, garlic, vinegar (opt coconut milk, dried peppers) and boil away. Serve with rice. Everyone develops their own variation. Great leftovers.
Hi Michelle😊 Happy Sunday. I always put the slurry in at the beginning and have never had a problem. And I only use cornstarch because flour gets lumpy. After a few hours if you can, just check it, give it a stir and add more slurry if you need it.
Holy Trinity isn't mirepoix and I know this from Kevin Belton's cooking. Watched him for years. Instead of carrot the Cajun use green bell pepper. That's the holy Trinity. But yeah the magic carrot onion celery is the reason the house smells good. It's the aromatic base that we talked about before when we referred to blooming spices and frying onion and garlic before that imparts so much flavor. (time permitting) or not. Hope you can take us along on your trip next week. Be more specific about your errands because we want to relate with you!!
My daughter gave me an instant pot for Christmas a few years ago. She got the one that didn’t have the pressure cooker on it, which is the one I wanted so she got me that one too. Just recently I was watching a video where the first one was used and I realized it actually had a slow cooker setting on it!! That was a long story to get to how I’m going to make these using that pot 😂😂😂. Happy Sunday Michelle and everybody here!!!!❤
Your crockpot looks reasonable. 😂 I have the same brand, but the 7 quart. If I cooked something for 7 hours it would be boiling after 3 hours, even on Low. So basically I can’t really leave for a full day, no set it and forget it, lol. Your first soup would have been good with some cabbage, and if you need to thicken soup with potatoes just a bit, get out your potato masher! You don’t have to mash it all, just a few mashes 😂 will thicken up a soup. Have a good week, Michelle.
I got a really good deal on a crock pot Amazon prime in October. $60 for an 8-quart. Digital so I can set and forget. Didn't really need one that big Since I'm by myself but I've used it a couple times and froze leftovers for myself and for my daughter who lives on her own. Crock pots are the absolutely the best thing ever. I just need to research more vegetarian recipes because I feel like I make the same things and I want to spice it up a little bit. Try new things
I have always thickened a gravy with cornstarch. It's just how both my grandmas did. So it is a family tradition. I make a lot of crock pot soups and I put the cornstarch right into the pot by coating the vegetables with the starch. To hide the veggies from the kids and difficult adults I blend the veggies into the resulting gravy and end up getting the veggies into the tummies of those who resist.
I just made tofu for the first time today! I’m wondering how that would hold up in a crock pot meal instead of chicken… maybe leave it out until the very end? What are your thoughts?
If you need things to thicken up in a crock pot then just put it on high without the lid on, it will thicken, also a crock pot doesnt need as much luqid as stove top or oven cooking, you can get away with up to 1/3rd less. I love apricot chicken in the slow cooker, i use what ever chicken is on special, mainly legs but i have done it with breasts and did it like pulled pork, which i then could put into wraps with salad, my kids loved it this way, i only could buy 2 breasts but it made tea and lunch for the three of us. I also make a mean beef stroganoff in the sliw cooker
@ArdentMichelle right apricot chicken is simple. 1kg of chicken, one 345(?) Ml can of apricot nectar, one packet of French onion soup powder (45g) mix and cook. If it's breasts you use then take them out and shred then pop them back in. Beef stroggonoff is 1kg of chuck steak( stewing steak) cut into 1 inch cubes, roll in seasoned flour (salt, pepper and paprika, cayenne pepper if you like a bit of bite), brown in fry pan and toss in slow cooker, throw in two cups of cut mushrooms, 1 small onion sliced, 2 beef stock cubes, 1 cup of water ( can be one cup of beef stock but don't use stock cubes. Stir and cook till meat is tender, about 2 to 3 hours on high. Stir in Greek yoghurt or sour cream to your taste. I like it saucey so put in a generous three heaped table spoons. Serve on mash potatoesor pata noodles. These are old family recipes so it's just eyeball it. So these are the best way to give them to you
@@ArdentMichelle we get it in the fruit juice isle. I just did a quick google and Amazon sell a can of Ardmona apricot nectar. This is the one we get in Australia and the one I use. Hope that helps
I think this is the perfect size for an individual also, because it's just enough for leftovers. I love that you have 2 crockpots. You must make a LOT of crockpot meals. What a happy home you must have! 😁 I just LOVE slow cooking!
We use both sizes too. The big one is kinda big for daily meals (5 kids have flown from nest) . The big one is so important for tomato sauce cook downs to use/or preserve. 👌
Hi! Yummy soups 🍲! That's sweet ur son likes to cook! I have a few crockpot ideas. So Sante Fe ish chicken has 2 ingredients. U can cook on low at 9pm so ready in a.m. Use pack of chicken and a tall jar of El Paso salsa seasoning or one similar! Wmn body builder shared it but I forget her name. She said the smells will wake u up!! 😂 Then saw on Julia Pacheco channel, that u can prep bunch potatoes in crockpot, again start at night. Poke the taters, add a few tbspn olive oil and garlic and spices. When kool, put in fridge. I thot it'd be yummy w crockpot recipes I've seen of chicken pot pie soup, mine vegan ish! 😋 Just ideas since u asked! Have gr8t day 🥔 🥔 😊 ❤
It's soup season! In Hell (FL), we rarely ever get Fall weather to enjoy it. I can't wait to move back home to NY next spring/summer! Anyway, I've been on a budget, so I've only made one soup so far, which is my Mom's tomato soup (it's my #1 comfort soup, because I think of her and I (occasionally my Dad, too) in the kitchen making it together when I was a kid). We use Campbell's tomato soup, Ball Park all-beef franks (I had to use an off-brand that had poork/chicken/beef, but it was still good, and rice. I like to add 2% Velveeta to make it extra creamy and thick. Have you ever had cheeseburger soup, or would you consider making it on here?
I've added meat proteins to the soup, but I have not added white beans before. I'm thinking I might try that next for some inexpensive added protein. In the future, I may also try tempering a couple of eggs or so, as I've recently been successful at this without scrambling them. I'm always looking for ways to add protein to this soup while still enjoying the frugal fact that it only costs a few dollars to make it.
Would you recommend getting an Instant Pot or a Crockpot/Slowcooker? I am thinking of getting a slowcooker, but an Instant Pot seems to have more functions to it, so seems to me, to be a no brainer.
I like my crockpot it's easy to clean and easy to use, the only problem is that it can be slow. I agree with Michelle if you need the other options definitely the instant pot is more versatile and quicker. My Mother loves hers.
You are the seasoning expert Michelle, so I have a question about what went wrong with my very spicy version of what you called a delicately flavoured soup. This is what I added for seasoning 1/2 teaspoon each of white pepper, garlic powder, Mrs. Dash, and a quarter of a teaspoon of salt. I also added some nutritional yeast and parsley and turmeric for coloring. This soup looked beautiful, but was very very spicy. I’m wondering if it’s because I used white pepper.. I seem to recall in the distant past that I may have ruined a dish by adding too much white pepper. What do you think? Was it the white pepper or something else I added?
Hello 😁 and Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃 I don't use white pepper, so I wouldn't be able to say. I guess it depends on how much liquid you had in there, but Mrs. Dash also has black pepper and cayenne, so maybe it helped to put it over the top for you. I imagine white pepper would be kind of tricky since you can't see it as well. I enjoy pepper and am not sensitive to it. Hope you have a great rest of your day!
I had 4 cups of water and I measured out the pepper, garlic powder and Mrs Dash (1/2 tsp each) Next time I’ll use a quarter tsp of my regular pepper ( which is a peppercorn medley in a grinder and I love it) , skip the Mrs Dash (I was trying to reduce the sodium) drop down to 1/4 tsp of garlic powder and stay with 1/4 tsp of salt. If it needs more I’ll add when eating. I appreciated the ease and low cost of this soup and will definitely make it again - with adjustments.
I made a crock pot soup with corn flour put in at the beginning last week. Got the idea from SEE MINDY MOM here on TH-cam. It worked perfectly! See her most recent video (when I am typing this! Thank you for the video
Well, I guess this depends on your size and eating habits bc one chicken breast in this application would definitely make 2-3 meals for me. And also remember she's offering this info for people who may be facing challenges with getting any meals on the table. But soup is more filling than just sitting down and eating one chicken breast itself. Plus if you add crackers or bread with it, one chicken breast could definitely stretch for 2 meals.
The last 3 kitchen appliances I bought were such garbage I've gone back to the basics for many things and that includes a new crock pot. If I wasn't home to watch it, the crock pot would have burned my house down.
Thanks for the tip about turmeric. It definitely made it more appealing in your video.

1 C salsa
2C black beans
1 packet taco seasoning
4 hrs high or 7 low.
Shred chicken with forks.
You can use it for tacos, burritos, salads, bowls, whatever
That lentil soup sounds delicious. What quantity of the ingredients do you use?
Sounds great!
Thanks for sharing!
I'm an avid crockpot user - just made some chicken tortilla soup subbing in chiozo instead of the chicken - threw together onions - 1/2 can of kidney beans - a can on diced tomatoes - 1/2 can of corn - a half of taco spice packet & frozen homemade chicken broth - when it's done I'll top it with avocado & tortilla chips - most of these ingredients I had opened in my frig - so thanks again for the inspiration - hope your week goes well.
oh I love this! 👍 And I do love tortilla soup! Thanks for sharing!
That's great news on the energy use! 😁
So that must mean you can freeze the finished soup? That large quantity of soup would need to be frozen in single portions for me and I like the idea of using evaporated milk but wondered if it could be frozen.
That is great to know, I have wondered about the draw on electricity my various appliances pull.
Soups are comfort in a bowl. Thanks for your videos! ❤
I agree! and you're welcome!
We love to make beans in the crock pot and then freeze them in 2 cup bags. As they are now over a dollar a can which is too expensive
Interesting idea. Never thought to put them in bags. Will try the next time I cook up a pot of beans.
Great looking soup! MY husband would love this, I plan to try it out ASAP, thank you for posting. Its always a joy to watch your videos when they come out.
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the recipe!
@@dianethoroughman9541past e fagioli is amazing in fall!
@@dianethoroughman9541Haha "crackpot" love the edit 😂
I use cornstarch in my crockpot frequently..I put my slurry in and cook on high for the last 30 minutes.
Love your recipe's for the crockpot soup and chicken.
I'm so glad you liked them! Thanks for watching! 😁
I think the trinity differs from country to country--in France, it's this mirepoix
I've heard that, and I do want to try that combo. It might be fun to work our way through the famous trio of each country. There are so many and they each sound delicious!
@@ArdentMichelle I'm not certain, but imagine Spains must be tomato (or potato), garlic, onion
@@LindaC616 yes it is! and I do love that combo! Germanys was leek, carrot and celeriac. I could literally make soups with all these combos
So excited to get out my crock pot and make soups after watching your video. I look forward to Sunday mornings to see what you are making. My husband loves it too! Have a great week everyone.
I'm glad you guys like it! 💜 Happy cooking!
Ooooooo, redecorating-exciting!!! I love my Ninja slow cooker as I can brown all of my veggies before adding the liquids.
These recipes look delicious, and I can't wait to try them. I especially liked the idea of using instant mashed potatoes to thicken the soup.
Hi Michelle, your meals look delicious! I use my crock pot about once a week mostly for roasts withe potatoes, carrots, onions s&p and garlic powder and chicken broth. . I fry about 1/2 the onions first. It gives it a nice rich flavor.
I love the idea of frying the onions first!
My brother made a crockpot recipe with chicken breasts and a bottle of each Italian and French dressing. Sounds weird but tastes delicious!! Thx so much, really enjoy your channel ❤
I bet it was good. I can see why. 😁Thanks for sharing! Have a great week.
Yesterday, I made a veggie with beef broth soup. I added black beans for protein. So so good. I love soup season.

Whaaaaat?!?!
Totally love this idea!!! I’m gonna try it! TFS
When I make it I like carrots in it and I like to use the petite diced tomatoes so they're smaller in the mouth LOL! and I don't peel the taters 'cause I don't want any other meat (from my fingers) in the soup! thought I'm not adverse to using frozen or something. and good with rotel tomatoes!
sounds like a soup I used to make. 😋
This sounds yummy.
Love the crockpot and the instapot.
no Instant Pot, just crockpot.
I just started using evaporated milk in a lot of my recipes recently I just made corn chowder. It’s such a simple soup to make and using the evaporated milk made it even more decadent. The best part was the soup was made with leftovers. Thanks for your channel.
Thank YOU for watching!

Yum! Watching this made me hungry. Great job! ⭐
Potato soup is the ultimate comfort food to me. Now I need to go make some 😋
agreed 👍
At the end my mom would top it with drop or regular biscuits, move it to the oven, and bake until the biscuits were done.
that's comfort food for me! 😋
Thank you! I know what to make for dinner! From Oklahoma ♥️🇺🇸♥️👋
Yay! 🥳 glad you like my recipes this week! Happy Eating!
I even have 2 casserole shaped crockpots.😅
I don't use them that often since I retired but they were perfect when I was working.
Yum!
That’s a great idea!!
Yes- it’s all the difference to come home to a yummy smelling house and a warm meal ❤
Along with a slurry and instant potatoes as thickening options, the soup can also be thickened by mashing some of the potatoes or pureeing some of the vegetation .
Yummy!! Will be trying this! Tfs ❤ 😊
That sounds amazing! I love a good tortilla soup.
I often use evaporated milk in potato soup and other cream soups.
Anyways I love your content and keep the videos coming whenever you have time 🙂
I’m sorry about your mom ❤

@@ArdentMichelle Sorry to hear that, but I understand.
LOVE YOUR WORK AS ALWAYS oh sorry caps lock on well.... you know what ... I WOULD yell that ! :D
😂 love this!
Great video Michelle thank you for sharing I love using my crockpot year-round but I do use it a lot more in these cooler months I'm going to do ham and beans tomorrow actually great big hugs 🖤
oh that sounds yummy! I'm currently a little obsessed with my new crockpot. 😂 Expect more meals in there.
I love soups, usually I prefer making them on the stove as opposed to my crockpot now that I’m retired, it’s comforting to have it simmering and I enjoy stirring it throughout the late afternoon and having all that delicious aroma. I enjoy your channel so much❤️
Thank you so much! 😁 I'm glad you're enjoying my channel!
LOL when you were spooning the gravy over the chicken I was thinking those egg noodles would be good then you said that!
Charlotte
yes I did 😂 Hope you have a great week too Charlotte 😁
Thank-you.
Watch Rachel Resets. She does cooking for one and has several one person crockpot meals that might interest you.
@@toadstooltarot Yes they do make small crockpots. Just Google crockpots for 1. As for the veggies, perhaps you can purchase single servings of precut veggies.....
Celery salt is a great way to get the taste of celery without the veggie.
@@toadstooltarot They make small crockpots for 1 or 2 people. You just need to do some research on where to find them..
So instead of four cups of stock, I would use two cups of reduced sodium and two cups no salt added
my future goals are to use less sodium. It's hard though. It tastes so good 😂
Thank you my friend for another great inspirational video. 💟
welcome 😁
There you are . I hope your are doing well ❤
@@VictoriaFerland-gu7rb I'm great and happy to be back. It was a nice little weekend getaway that I'll be sharing a little of in an upcoming video!
@ I missed you. I am happy you had a wonderful weekend. You earned it. 💟
Re: thickening crockpot soups... Instead of using a cornstarch slurry you can use instant mashed potato flakes. Use 1 tablespoon of potato flakes per 1 cup of liquid.
thanks for sharing your ratios. 😁
God bless you 🙏 ❤🎉
That's a great idea to save the bones!
My family loves it when I make chili! Thanks for sharing your recipe!
Lol
I need to try the lactose free feta. The last time I tried lactose free milk, it still hurt my stomach 😞
Great leftovers.
sounds delicious!
Hi Michelle😊 Happy Sunday. I always put the slurry in at the beginning and have never had a problem. And I only use cornstarch because flour gets lumpy. After a few hours if you can, just check it, give it a stir and add more slurry if you need it.
Thanks for the tip. I'm going to try that next time. In other words, today! 😂
@@ArdentMichelle 🤣🥰
Holy Trinity isn't mirepoix and I know this from Kevin Belton's cooking. Watched him for years. Instead of carrot the Cajun use green bell pepper. That's the holy Trinity. But yeah the magic carrot onion celery is the reason the house smells good. It's the aromatic base that we talked about before when we referred to blooming spices and frying onion and garlic before that imparts so much flavor. (time permitting) or not. Hope you can take us along on your trip next week. Be more specific about your errands because we want to relate with you!!
This is the way I make mine but instead of celery I use celery seed and some chives
Using instant potatoes to thicken soup, what a great idea.
Since they have a fair amount of salt did you add less salt than you normally would?
Yes.
Happy Sunday Michelle and everybody here!!!!❤
Happy Sunday! It's great that you can use an Instant Pot for other things too!
My smaller crockpot boils on low as well- sometimes I just set it on “warm” and it cooks things when I leave it for a really long time…
yeah, and mine won't boil at all. 😂 See you Sunday!
I'm going to be making lots more of these crockpot meals. New one on Sunday!
@@ArdentMichelle Trade ya! Mine is ridiculous. 😂
I think my crockpot just doesn't get hot enough, because I've tried several ways and it doesn't thicken.
You could hold back some veggies before a drink pasta and blend them up to naturally thicken the soup as well
true
WOW I love your red gel! That's a perfect color for you! Red is so sexy for nails I love it. I think it has a tinge of purple or pink too? Perf. 👌🏻💅🏻
I just made tofu for the first time today! I’m wondering how that would hold up in a crock pot meal instead of chicken… maybe leave it out until the very end? What are your thoughts?
I usually like my tofu kind of firm, but I might try it in the crockpot sometime with a curry. I haven't tried it yet though...
Would love those recipes.

Instead of chicken, I used beef roast for day 1 and day 2 the beef was shredded and added bbq sauce for bbq sandwiches.

I haven't had it, but I would definitely consider making it on the channel! 😁
Could you freeze the soup with the evaporated milk?
I think so...
Some thyme, rosemary, or oregano would elevate that last chicken dish cooking with it.
Would you recommend getting an Instant Pot or a Crockpot/Slowcooker? I am thinking of getting a slowcooker, but an Instant Pot seems to have more functions to it, so seems to me, to be a no brainer.
If you can afford it, go for the Instant Pot. Especially if you need those options.
I like my crockpot it's easy to clean and easy to use, the only problem is that it can be slow. I agree with Michelle if you need the other options definitely the instant pot is more versatile and quicker. My Mother loves hers.
IMO the instant pot has more of a learning curve- so just be aware of that.

Thank you for the video
that's a great idea 👍
How do you cook 1 chicken breast for a family?
I used one large chicken breast for 2 servings.
but I think this was rhetorical. 😂
@@ArdentMichelleyou also could have told her it's to help poor people who may be less fortunate than her
Our family loves the “soogie” noodle, even better the next day, we do not like toothie
Oh no, that's the second week with the bandage over your hand, did you hurt yourself too bad?!! 🥺😞😭
had a biopsy, but I'm fine! 😊
I follow a nurse who skipped 2 weeks of videos and people started calling her work to check on her.
yikes
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like your knives need to be sharpened.
true
looks good. However one chicken breast for two meals is inadequate unless you are trying to lose weight.
I often just use one chicken breast to feed my family of 4.
Especially in soup, you can def get away with it.
you can eat as much as you want 😁
Mire poix isn’t the same as the holy trinity. The holy trinity doesn’t use carrots. It’s bell peppers, onions, and celery.
It’s in cooking uses onions carrots and celery. Both combos are good
I meant Italian cooking
yes, this does seem debatable...and their are lots of versions that I'll be trying.
The last 3 kitchen appliances I bought were such garbage I've gone back to the basics for many things and that includes a new crock pot. If I wasn't home to watch it, the crock pot would have burned my house down.
that's scary.
Some thyme, rosemary, or oregano would elevate that last chicken dish cooking with it.
