    On todays show I discuss Ortofon VNL and why I think the new styli might be perfect needle for any type of DJ. Skilled DJs demand specialized tools that can help them push their creativity to the edge - consistently testing the boundaries in the realm of performance.
    3 different feels to fine-tune your performance
    To match the multiple applications of modern DJs the VNL Introduction Package includes 3 different styli with suspension types of varying feel and rigidity:
    The VNL features a spherical stylus which is perfect for tough groove handling. Furthermore, it reduces record wear when scratching and back-cueing to an absolute minimum.

    Jico makes FANTASTIC styli for the M44-7! I've used them for the past couple years and they're lovely.

    Finally! I was using the Jico Shure "like" styli but wasn't getting the distance with them that I did with the Shure's.
    Ortofon has been on the scene for sometime and it was just a matter of time before they came out with this type of styli, good for them and great for us vnl heads.
    Keep up the great work DJ Keo...appreciate your perspective on things.

      I just got Jicos, and they just aren't the same. Not as crisp sounding and the low end is muddy sounding, and the tacking is fair at best (I haven't had very good luck scratching with it) as it jumps out of the groove constantly. Sometimes it even jumps a couple of grooves over. It's very rigid feeling, also it feels like it digs into the record a lot and burns. I am sure they are fine for just general playback, and three cheers for Jico for making them, but for serious DJing I don't feel secure and satisfied with them.

      It took a couple weeks to break in the Jico's, before they stopped skipping. I had them set at a 23 degree angle for two weeks and now I got them sitting straight on the headshell. Weight set at 3 grams, height at 3 and antiskate at 0.

    Cool Ortofon needles, I hope they are as good as the Shure M44-7. Jico makes good replacements ( N44-7 stylus tips only). They will be making cartridges soon for m44-7. I have some Jico's, great after they break in, no skips for scratching! Tip: I used the 23 degree angle trick to break them in faster for a couple weeks. Then mounted them straight after. It worked great for me.

    • @djmalcolmXL
      @djmalcolmXL 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had the Jico's about a year now and scratch and juggle on them a few days a week. Very little record wear with them and they're still doing great. I'll probably try out the new Ortofon VNL once they are available.

    Great needle so far, put it in my OMNI Portable Turntable. And moved my QBert OM over to my Reloop Spin Portable Turntable. Still putting my MG44-7 on my Audio-Technica AT-LP 140XP though. But the Ortofon VNL is definitely a solid score!.... 💯🔥👍💪🙏🎶🎵🌎

    Plenty of stock still of the intro kit.. might not be as good value when they stop the intro special though (with the two replacement styli, you may or may not ever use if you prefer one over the other). But still great way to give us a way to try the three options.

    2 weeks in, and the VNL is the TRUTH. I've been a 44-7 owner for 2 decades.. I'm done overpaying. This is truly a fantastic cart. Tracks amazingly at 3g on my straight arms. Doing tears as fast as I possibly can, and they hold true.

    Hi, I bought new Ortofon VNL, mounted it on Ortofon SH-4 and finally on my technics 1210 MK5. The problem is that the 0mm tonearm height is not enough - I cant set the tonearm lower then 0mm. So it seems impossible to align tonearm on MK5 when using ortofon VNL. Anyone else having the same problem? any ideas how to fix this? thanks!

    • @DJKeo
      @DJKeo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good catch, I think most pro dj mixers produce a high enough signal so it wont be a issue but this might be a problem for audiophiles
