    Everquest blew my mind when it came out. Regardless of how masochistically punishing the game was by today's standards I can't really think of a time when I had more awe just wandering around in a game. I'm glad the music survived the times.

    This song brings tears to my eyes. I can be driving down the road and have a fond memory of the game. It's like it became a part of my soul, no game has ever came close to the feel and excitement of the first time loading up that stayed with you everytime you logged in. I started playing with a lot of my family and met so many people far away and even in my home town. I was 32 years old then. I'm 65 now. Amazing Game.

    over the difficulty, the immersion, the atmosphere, the music and the feeling of isolation and danger/wonder, i think one thing made this game the best online game ever. THE PEOPPLE!!!
    For years, the ocmmunity on this game was sick-as, people who invested so much emotion into the experience that you felt liek you could too, and most of us easily did, immersing us completely, making it a place we felt we belonged, and could spend hours in.
    it was more than a game, it was a reason to live.

    Just as the initial chords of midi sweep out from my speakers a single tear rolls down my cheek...a tear in remembrance of so many adventures, so many friends, and so much mystery. I am saddened for I know these things can never come to be again. No experience will ever be quite the same, nay anywhere near the same. My GOD. I absolutely can't get enough of that old-school pc game MIDI music from the late 90s. Just hearing this theme while looking at this title screen on a beautiful CRT monitor was legendary. Nostalgia overload thinking about it. Modern video game soundtracks that use real instruments and orchestras and utilize Dolby digital surround sound and such is great don't get me wrong, but there was just something magical about MIDI that just immerses you into a game so much.

      Jason O'Conner Think that's more to do with internet in general having changed in the past 16 years. Running into a complete douchebag in an online game was an oddity back in 1999, and people cared for their reputation alot. Now it's more of a contest of who can be the biggest trolliest douche out there and brag about it to his trolly douchebag pals.
      Just gotta try to look past the disappointments and enjoy the nostalgia. Then see afterwards if you still wanna keep logging in once the nostalgia need has been satisfied.

    Eq was amazing but I feel like going back can't live up to my first experience and how amazing it was back then.I also feel the game has changed so much, that much of the stuff that was great on live in the old expansion is missing in the newer ones.I loved dreadlands and the early expansions and killing dragons.Later ones focused too much on loot, and god I loved how some classes were made.
    I feel Everquest had. Lot of problems early on that got fixed, like the lack of map system and the dialogue having no links in conversation to bring up the right dialogue choice to find the quest your looking for, because without reference in the conversation logs it's impossible.Its also nice the inclusion of a quest log, otherwise you would never know how how many enemies you need

    • @Erekai
      @Erekai 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So you want to turn it into WoW? No way, fool, that's what made EQ great! You had to actually interact with NPCs to get quest dialogue and figure out what you needed to do! Man, I still don't know how some people figured out those 1.0 Epics way back in the day. So great.

    • @piromaniac9999
      @piromaniac9999 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope I didn't say i wanted it to be like wow, but having quest windows for what you need is certain unless you want to be a big macho tough guy which is your thing.
      For instance:I'm opposed to how easy eq becomes later on with teleporations.Eq is more fun in classic because you sit and talk to folks for hours make friends and while looking for TP find new friends, its great.
      What makes eq better than wow, is that wow is too easy with the loot, and has a spell system not as epic as everquest.

    This song really makes me want to get on right now! I love everquest and I had so many good memories. My guild that I grew up with was amazing and acctually cared. That is hard to find in an MMORPG, but EverQuest never seemed to have people that didn't care about you.

    A friend of mine got me hooked on MMO's starting with this one back in 1998, and sadly I have stayed in the genre ever since. Just hearing this brings back so many memories...

    got to agree with Matamuran, EQ being my first MMO, I was totally taken in. most people forget just how new that concept was and EQ really started it for all the rest to come. don't believe you can ever capture that feeling of your first time, remember most games were 2d and no social interaction, very fond memories. now that i have tried so many other MMO's, EQ still is the first.

    There was no corpse summoning in early classic EQ, not until closer to Kunark. They added a scroll drop to some mob in the original Paw.
    You either went back yourself to get your things off the corpse (naked, or if you were smart wearing some secondary backup cloths), or took your chances by giving /consent to someone else...
    Troublemakers loved to convince desperate people to /consent them, then they would drag your corpse to an even worse place saying 'I can't seem to find it'.

    I had to play the music because I was feeling nostalgic. No other mmorpg that I've played has reproduced the same joy, wonder and amazement. And no other game has worried my bro from the random late night cussing and screaming. Loved it all and will always keep the memories, but hell if I go back to that hardcore shit.

    This game was great as a real co-operative experience. By that I mean you were pretty much forced to group up to progress and progress was extremely slow and difficult but that was deliberate pacing to keep you in the same area for a while and really appreciate the world as you explored it and found new areas to play. In WoW you simply stay in 1 area for a few hours until you've solo'd all the quests and then move on to the next. I loved exploring in Everquest, I didn't care about leveling up.

    Everquest is the only game I've played where I actually had a fear of dying. Games now, and even Everquest now make it too easy. But back in the day an 11 hour plane of fear corpse retrivial was just terrorfying. Hell, even a naked guk run wasn't any fun.
    Everquest 99 will always be the hardest of the hardcore game

    Camping, corpse runs, true fear running through Highhold Pass with a huge train of mobs relentlessly chasing you, agro giants, loot hijackers, and not to mention making lifelong friends .... there was just nothing like this game. This theme brings back all of those incredibly great memories.

    First time i got all the way from kelethin, on my level 14 half elf paladin, to freeport, on boat, was momentous for me. I had so much dopamine pumping through my body like 'you can relax now youre on the boat' and 'this is awesome, im the only one on the boat at nighttime, its like im creating a movie as i play'. i had to log out when i got there.
    but when i logged on the next day i was at the bottom of the ocean.

    I remember when you had to go get your corspe and drag it around. and taking five minute boat rides from place to place then falling and getting stuck. Then not having a map to guide you and getting really lost and sad. Then dying to some really hard crap and having no idea where your corspe is. And then trains to zone where i would die. Or raiding Mistmore and reading the tombstones. Or Going to FM and farming loops from the giants..... *sheds single tear*
