I think it's a meta issue for TSM. Hal and Evan don't synergize with every character. Hal will flat out refuse to play characters he doesn't feel like he can make aggressive plays on, and Evan's play style just doesn't suit a character like Caustic. I think seeing the EMEA and APAC teams perform well without using cookie cutter comps may help open the door for NA teams to adjust their comp to match their playstyles. Fingers crossed TSM comes back strong in split two
Honestly agree, didn't really see any of them adapt to a character they will.play, other than Hal on hound, but hound needs a disciplined player, no wide swings. No one ever waited to play bang on TSM. Honestly they don't see the game the same way right now

Teams can't always win and people saying that it's an end of an era will make it worse for their resolve, sensationalism like this doesn't help anything in the short or long term. they are allowed to loose and positive criticism would be better for the whole competitive scene rather than blowing their whole career off due to a loss.

Apex is way different than basketball. When every team has walls except you then you have a problem then add everyone has smoked and gas WITH wall hacks then if you don't have smokes and wall hacks you're way less likely to do well.

@@killeh6083 I never watched even one hour of basketball but i have more than 10000 hours of watched or played apex and what you write is true to some degree but when they place 17. best at using meta and several teams that do way better are NOT playing meta. They need to do something different. evan definately need something other than bang or caustic and replacing him does not make reps or hal top 10 at either of them.

All this tournament showed was who the best team was while playing Blood, Bang, & Caustic. Personally I hate that meta. The smoke is miserable to play in and it's even less fun to watch. Most teams feel they have to play a specific comp to counter everyone else. Caustic counters Caustic, Blood counters Bang, Bang counters controller players. And it appears Blood, Bang, Caustic counters TSM.
I think it was a nerf for the controller in general. Bang smokes and Caustic gas (I think) counter controller players.

@@GiantSlayer1015 yes and auroras lifeline play kinda reminded me on how tsm used to play on map. tsm is also not top 10 communication in fights.Even teams that had shit communication before show massive improvement in this tournament. C9 and DSG especially had way better coms while fighting compared to what they did before in my opinion. You also forgot mnk countered controller with map placement even without caustic :)

They should have never played Caustic, I think truly it was a comp issue. And Hal not even on Horizon? they didn't play their strengths, they played the meta. That's not a skill issue, Verhulst is a controller player and usually starts fights imagine putting him on Caustic one of the largest hit boxes in the game.
Agree but Dz sikes is on controller I think he played caustic well for Dz it’s not about controller it’s about Evan jus can’t play caustic and didn’t even grind him that much
That’s the biggest problem. Hal is a world class Horizon. The way he initiates the fights on her is incredible and gives him instant height in other scenarios. Them trying to meta chase is going to be their downfall. I get it tho you had to play caustic or you like insta lose. Maybe with the changes now things will get a tiny bit better

heard hals statement, reps says he wanted passionate players and possibly eluded that him and hal grew apart, and that one of the other tsm members no longer plays the game, most likely jordan, but i believe you made some great points, from an outside perspective looking in

First off it was a pleasure meeting you at Lan. I don't think this has anything to do like meta. I personally think something more personal is going on in their personal lives. Some internal issue.
Also i think it has more to do about their confidence and trust in each other. We lnow all 3 are super skilled.
Come on now it was definitely a comp issue first Evan on caustic it’s like a silver player in a pred lobby and when Hal die first and reps is the last one always standing like he is a superhuman and gonna clutch up again the best team in the whole world even as talented as he is it’s borderline impossible
@@simonisdanilo3950 I just think hal needs a shrink to see it. he also had his part in this failiure and raven should also see what team he has to play with and not just theorycraft on what is best meta. basically it is many small mistakes spread around on all of them and that is why hal can not see what it is

In terms of the new comps this season, and with the new legend Alter in the mix-- there is clearly a lot that can be said as far as competitive Apex is concerned even at the ranking level.
However, if one is to look at quantum gaming theory VS classical gaming theory, at least from what I've been reading the surface of, it seems to make sense why some of the best eSports athletes (or "nodes" is what the papers are describing) are making mental and physical changes in their implicit playbooks.
In short, even as Hal and you have described, there is a state of synchronization that is not being achieved or allowed as it normally has been in the past few years.
Whether or not it has to do with one not being allowed to achieve neurogenesis in game with their squad(s), which one may argue is necessary to bring out the best in competitive scenarios, one thing is for sure is that there is a bit of imbalance in TSM at the moment that could be solved with the current squad if they are able to upgrade their communication both in game and irl. This also includes coach Raven of course.
From my perspective, all 4 team members are on different levels (even though as stated the best members aren't needed to win every game), and sometimes that means there has to be some actions that need to be taken into account in order to rehabilitate from the trauma that a group of close nit people, family, or friends, might undergo when there is a disconnect from an established safe space such as an eSports squad etc..
With that said, I feel like there is still time to heal and bring out the best in each other as far as TSM goes

Many good points in this video, i think Hal is still good, but a bit disillutioned and i think the other teams just play smarter now compared to before and TSM just dont have the edge they did compared to the other teams. I also think some pro teams that are better in 3 v 3 will use the new legend and TSM comp will fail even more getting outplayed by it if they do not change the legends they use. Evan is not playing caustic or bangalore very good in my opinion and he might be better on something else. I want to see if he plays alter good. I think it might suit him better for playstyle if he can do the communication needed for it.

@@simonisdanilo3950 None of them are great at caustic or bang. reps is the best at both in my opinion but he is not close to the 10 best in the game on those legends. I have more than 5000 hours on bang and caustic is my 2. pick at about 1500 hours. im a bad player with my aim and movement but i know placement and those 2 legends skills and i see they should probably use something else, maybe reps on bang is ok but i think he might be even better on something like wattson. I think hal should try out to play more like design with evan supporting. wraith, bloodhound and alter should be tried to see what works best for them in playstyle. and then they need better communication. hal is a great player and a great guy but he is a bit destructive psycologically to the others communication, evan tunnelvisions too much and his communication needs training to play legends that have skills to move team like wraith and alter
There was a clip later on in the stream when hal and someone else was knocked. And I think it was noko playing alter and he put a ult down and both were able to go back and noko revived both giving them a full reset and he had gold res. Showed a good way of playing alter with that.

I also feel a lot of sadness from Hal here, if indeed there is a move player wise and he knows it’s inevitable think of how he’s feeling mentally. After the success TSM has had on the global stage, the bonds he’s made with Reps, Verhulst etc. IF all that is gone (after one bad tourney and a meta which doesn’t compliment them as individuals) he’s probably deeply hurting.
I’d hope given the huge success they’ve been they can go back to the drawing board and reinvigorate themselves.
Roster changes and forming a new team is not something that happens overnight, look at the success of TSM, for example. They’ve been together for a long time, they’ve had the opportunity to learn about each other, the mechanics of their gameplay style, the understanding of each other‘s attitudes, the actions and reactions of one another and have cohesive synergy etc. These are things that don’t just happen overnight. They take a very long time to develop and mature.
Hopefully it’s all just mega trolling and they can work it out - either way good luck to them all!
It 90% was their 3v3’s imo… if you watch back. A few of the fights they took, if they win the fight they keep a certain part of the map they were in… they were edging… a lot of fights they lost would have left them with in uncontested walk ins into zone. Plus confidence. Once they lost multiple fights you saw hesitation in continuing to take fights. The cohesion was gone. Hal over extending to try and get a knock. Let’s be real also though. Reps in 3 v 3’s was getting washed. Evan uncharacteristically too in a couple fights.
If you really think about it, the first meta of pathfinder wraith and Wattson were probably the best for a triple mnk. Also the apex community can’t seem to realize that hal doesn’t have a lot of good opinions. Like bro isn’t as smart or analytical as he is skilled and good at clutching. Tsm was falling apart before they got raven and that gave them the chance to become a dynasty again. Hal has complete controller brain these days and just feels the only strategy is being better than the other team at 1 clipping people.
I agree, hal being dubbed the “CEO” is comical. He is far more technically skilled than a wise strategist.
Hal lit has to tell everyone what to do and how to play every single play and evan just says im dead bro bro bro i cant do nothing bro and reps constantly ults his own team and doesnt know what to do with the smokes. Hal is so much smarter and skilled, if Hal doesnt knock 2 they dont win that often.

@@georgejohnsonn that’s cause Hal gets the green light to play more freely while his teammates play protect the president. He’s the most skilled on the team, but dude doesn’t have a big brain. He needed raven to compensate when they started falling apart.

kinda new to ALGS and the entire comp scene but with TSM & Tripods - is it common for the successful teams to breakup after 1 loss? Rather than using it to get better?
I've read some of the comments and it crazy that the community can all see it, that because the meta has advance to a point where one comp doesn't work so to speak, TSM feels like the group of old guys in the lobby man, and also the map rotation helped them out in the last LAN, imo they excel anytime they catch a LAN that includes Worlds Edge or KC, the new maps make the comps that they usually run nought, and they TSM as a team haven't figured out what to do, the meta becoming more "balanced" comp wise is their biggest issue right now.
I agree. TSM struggled with the meta since the start of last season. It felt like they jumped on the meta bandwagon and forced that meta because everyone else was. You’re absolutely right, what works for one team might not work for another. As much as I like Raven this was a coaching issue. Raven should’ve seen this wasn’t working early and made adjustments. This isn’t difficult. Fully understand what each player’s play style is and pick characters that complement that play style AS WELL as the teams. You can even geek out in a spreadsheet with all of these stats and make these adjustments as the season progresses. Time to get MLB on the ALGS.
going to a different roster isn't always the solution in my opinion. You gotta gel regardless. just get back into the lab and work. when every team isn't running the exact same 3 legends, there's just a lot more that goes into the decision making.

Hal is a great player, but probably one of the worst igl''s I have seen.. he constantly demoralizes his team and blames every loss on his teammates. A good leader will take full responsibility and own the losses. Plus he is not level headed at all, he is frantic and bad at communicating. Often he will rush forward and communicate his intent too late, giving his teammates too short a time to react.

To your basketball reference it’s all about getting older, I’m new to the game but tsm has been together since algs started right ? They’ve gotten older and the rest of the field has caught up. They also play the meta and not what legends feels best for each individual. It’s like Lebron shooting 3s all game because it’s a 3pt game vs driving like he should. Verhulst/Valk Hal/Horizon Reps/ idk whoever he plays best.
Horizon and valk together would not work in this current state of competitive. That was when seer was viable. This is a shoot through smoke meta of apex and valk would bring nothing to the table

What I'm intrested in is with Raven pretty much being out who do they bring in?Do they run it back with a new coach?do they run it back with a new team,which personally i hope doesn't happen because i feel like this team could comeback stronger than ever especially with how they lost it's the perfect fuel for a complete reignite of some absolute MF PASSION.
I said it all pro league.. you wanna beat TSM you push them ealry in the game..they hate taking ealry battles and second they thrive of 3rd parties and being inside zone and getting picks from far away.. this split had too many zone teams which made them fight ealrier then they wanted. Plus Reps needs to get better or walk

Raven got to high on past ALGS success and started making changes that shouldn’t had been made. Evan and Hal are being nerfed really hard by their legends, then Jordan has to all of a sudden do more player to player combat and he’s not anchoring (the thing he’s best at)….and with how short tempered Hal is, this idea got in his mind, they will do roster changes and maybe this era will come to and end

I've watched the tournament. All I can say with Hal is that, each of them needs to practice more together. there are a lot of time they are looking at the same target but since this is a team play, other should be looking at other places so other team mates can damage and kill other members of the opposing team. Most likely, the reason is when one calls out where the enemey is, they tend to focus on that area, it's a hobby they need to impoved on. Kudos! Take note, they are figthing the best teams, not a normal scrims or lobby. Enemy will be thinking the samething.

I hope they won't be splitting up. Perhaps, picking up another coach. Retrain meta characters, and move along. This team has won multiple times, and impossible there's no synergy. They admitted themselves, they weren't training heading into playoffs. Which means, that could be the issue? They've been consistent participating in scrims, training off stream. Past few seasons, they were consistently attending scrims and all, they were ready, regardless of what. Meat contested them in year 3, they came up as Champion. So to me, its not about skills issues. Its about working as hard as before they solidify themselves as undisputed. The only thing the can do is, fix everything im between them, play together. Let both co-igl, and challenge his decisions so they can see wider approaches in certain scenarios. Can't stick with what they did in year 2 and 3. That's the past. Now it is different. Xset being let off due to lack of consistency. That's XSET, Optic faced the same as well. These 2 teams are amongst consistent finalist. The moment they slacking off, results went down, in the end, let go. I hope Hal, reps and Evan can sit, rethink back before deciding, and have a look at what they were doing wrong, discuss better approach, together, now that Raven is no longer with them .

Hal used to play MNK and switched to controller because of how strong the devs made it become overtime.
But bang countering controller players and being meta for (how long exactly?) a long time, why has he not switched back to MNK way before the tourney?
I’ve been thinking this since i started watching competitive Apex all of these guys are pros in the game, but none of them are professionals. The second they do bad they look for a new team and they switch up, which is never the right option Even dark zero who has won so many times switches their roster immediately after winning it is just honestly so bad for the game and for the e sport and about to see TSM now do the same and there’s no point switching it up. It’s stupid. Hal might be one of the best players in the game but has one of the most horrible mindset in this game and the worst opinions about the game. He’s never right about metas and he’s never right about characters being good. He just doesn’t know how to pick that out. That’s why they got Raven nobody remembers I feel like. Hal directly before they signed Raven. He was literally About to quit and give reps Igl position like.
Hal would down one and almost knock 2 basically every fight. He respects reps way to much to just blame reps . Verhults same but reps would always do the less . And reps a lot of the time would get sht on. Not all the time but out of the 3 reps skill is wag below. And is obviously. But they a team so stick to the team and blaming the whole team. Also the pressure to always win is a mental drain. And might be hard to accept . Kinda hear in his voice he disappointed. But wants to not throw anyone directly. So he just says he don't know. He do his part and don't understand the rest. His attitude is changing.
My opinion. He not being straight forward like he usually is.
Real madrid in the past few yrs haven't had any super stars or best of the best. They still building and players are growing to be better. So they actually don't fit in that example. But where they do fit is in the skill example. They still winning even tho other teams are way better.

Tsm Choco said once that BR are way too random to make tourny out of it and i believe that as well. It just bad luck period. But watching the reaction of hal implying that it the teamate fault is just low and i hope there loyalty in that bad luck streak.. "I honor those who've risen, not those who've fallen." Bloohound ;)
I know this may be an out of left field theory but I think the weapon meta has a lot to do with it. They nerfed all the smgs into the ground and everyone is using the havok(so unbalanced when everyone is trying to use the same gun, worse than the 301 meta i think) and they mostly took out the digi which is a counter to bang even if it made her stronger. Idk what is up with the weapon balance and they finally nerfed the 30-30 but I think the weapon meta sucks right now and I think that TSM prolly had some issues with that cuz they are used to not contesting

I love your videos like this why more than your casting. I wish you’d bring this stuff into game days. Also I hope all the pros watch this and realize they need to be playing what is best for their teams play style. So many legends that are comp viable right now it’s insane
It’s easier to do in videos! Online shows too. LAN is more of a rigid desk host role which I love and allows my analysts to bring up topics like this if they care about it. However, online shows I cast a bit and there’s a bit more time to fill and bring up topics. Overall I think this is perfect for YT and that both are good but just in different ways.

You're spot on with the synergy I think. Even though they did decent in the scrims leading up to ALGS, you can see a lot of frustration and lack of chemistry between them, especially when you look at how teams like DZ or O7 were playing as a team. May be Hal is too competitive, may be he's arrogant but I feel like he's going to kick out Evan and Jordan out of TSM.

From what I saw Reps was the weak link that LAN. Not Evan.
Just were playing bad. Lack of accountability(“I have to 1v3 all the time”) in the VODs, hal and Evan always misplayed, whiffed shots and reps is never in position of LOS. Give Evan blood, Hal needs horizon or alter, reps should always anchor and needs to be better at it. He needs Caustic or Cat. Also, we need stats of who was first down, avg dmg, probably a playbook change.
The quality of players of course went up as well. Everyone is good at shooting and it's expected that another team will win. Tsm was really out of their element in that lan tournament.
They have a bad spilt! It not a big deal. DZ miss final last year and this year they look amazing. TSM will be back on top. Also I’m really glad that we have a new LAN winner.
The whole '3v3' comment and about leaving it 'on me'... cmon Hal. You been the CEO for some years now. No more passing the buck. It was a TEAM effort, and TEAM loss. Stop placing blame at Reps (onw of the MOST FAITHFUL anchors in the game) and Evans, feet. The amount of times ive seen Verhulst save you, or both of you, counts for something.
Bottom line, yall aint gonna win em all. Plain and simple. Take the L, buckle up, buckle down, and get ready for the next run. Let em know TSM still somethin to recognize.

Apex needs a randomiser selection, watching people play the same characters all the time is boring and those who are skilled will win no matter who they play
I disagree with you. I think that Hal is right to try to use the meta as much as possible. Especially when it’s caustic meta. There’s no other way around than to use a caustic. Your analogies don’t work here really.
With where apex is unless a new legend is a controller or support legend they won't see comp use

they were playing caustic and then playing like scared bronze players in a masters lobby trying to play edge. the zones didnt help, but tsm only wins fights when they pick one. they never win them when the fight is forced on them. get verhulst of caustic and make him the fragger, hal needs to focus on zones and decisions, and reps need to be the anchor, he is the best anchor in the game.
and f the meta, they cant play caustic and win. not going to happen with these guys

They are terrible at adapting to new metas and they settled on trying to fit into this meta that doesn't work for them.
The pacing of how games play out is different and they are on uncomfortable picks... recipe for failure.
