I really admire the actors who put on those robot and monster suits to entertain us with these shows. I still prefer a guy in suit versus CGI most of the time when it comes to these shows.
For those who have asked: This video was shot over June 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of 1993. Really glad to see so many people enjoy seeing it. I was afraid it might be too long, but then I thought what it would be like if someone suddenly showed up with 8mm film of Bruce Lee working on The Green Hornet and how I'd feel about that. I'd love to see a couple of hours of my favorite hero show behind-the-scenes. I'll try to post some other Ranger-related home vids later on.
for 20+ years I always wondered what material they used to make the robots. seeing what they used and how they were put together and even watching you touch them was so incredible. thank you for sharing this.
Do you had the autorisation of Toei to post this clip? i mean ... it's despite being RARE .... it's still propriety of Toei ... and this could bring some problem DX
Thank you so much for this, I recently watched Gosei Sentai Dairanger(it was subbed and uploaded on youtube)and loved the differences, plus it had a very Star Wars type element. Love the KibaRanger in this series
For anybody wondering the shots at the amphitheater are in Dairanger episode 21 about 6 minutes and 45 seconds into the episode. The zord footage at the beginning and end are in Dairanger episode 22. Most of the zord footage seen in the video starts at 16 minutes and 28 seconds in that episode. It is the same zord footage used in White Light part 2 of Power Rangers season 2 with the footage starting at 14 minutes 40 seconds
REGARDING WHO DID WHAT INFO: When I started the show in season 1 they were using all Japanese footage for fights and the un-morphed "civilian" fights were being shot by Issac Florentine. He had shot some footage with Red but at that time everything was still Japan footage for the Ranger team fights. I started about the same time as Jason Frank joining the show. When I took over I began adding Ranger fight action with the Japan footage until there was no more Japan Dino footage to use. By the end of season 1 I was shooting everything. The main footage from Japan we used was the giant fights. We shot INTERIOR of the Zords with our Ranger stunt team (so that White could be there with them) but never any giant footage. At the end of our fights I would shoot the monsters catching the prop Zedd would throw to them and then film them growing large. From there we would edit to whatever giant battle the Japanese had shot for us. ALL White Ranger fights were shot by me. We only used a close up and the shot of White riding his Zord from Japan. This is because the White Ranger in Japan was too tiny to be Jason and the Z Putties and Lord Zedd only existed in American footage. ALL of the Ranger fights were performed by either the Japan stunt guys or the American stunt team. NONE of the fights as Rangers (including the movie) were performed by the actors. The actors performed their civilian fights only. I would create sequences that used each actor's skills to the max. The martial arts guys' fights (Austin/Jason/Steve/Walter/Johnny) were easy to make. The gymnastics-only guys (Amy Jo/David Yost) were trickier, but I used their skills and made their striking more simple with less combinations. The most difficult to make were the fights with the actors who had little to no physical training prior to filming (Karen Ashley/ Thuy Trang). I only doubled one actor during the civilian fights and that was Thuy. If you check out my ORIGINAL MMPR DOC video you'll see a behind-the-scenes segment of me shooting a fight with the original actors at the playground. That's actually MER MER CHEN performing Thuy's fight for her. Thuy had been trying to learn some moves off the mini-tramp and seriously injured her knee (as you can see her explain in the video). So most of her fights after that consisted of her standing in place and doing a close-up while Mer Mer did the wide fighting shots. This is a technique I would later use to make BUFFY fights with Sarah Geller and Sophia Crawford. The martial arts actors could have easily been stuntmen instead of actors if they wanted to. But they had auditioned for the acting roles and that's what they were doing. So - just to clear up that rumor - whenever you see a Ranger in a helmet fighting in any of the footage I worked on it is always one of the stunt team.
I found you're Channel yesterday and i'm happy! You're MMPR behind the scenes footage is absolutly great. It's nice to see the original Cast (JDF,Austin, David,Walter,Amy,Thuy) behind the Camara..Thanks to upload i love it! I hope you bring more like this?! Im one of the biggest MMPR Fan. I saw the Series for the first time i was 5 or 6 years old! (Sorry for my English im German)
While the team are heroes behind helmets, you sir are a hero behind the scenes. Thanks for sharing this amazing footage. It shows the dedicated hard work that goes into Super Sentai and Power Rangers, tons of respect for everyone.
***** woah... I always wanted admit it to one of main producer, did you realize how much more you could put into MMPR? before Zeo? I re-watched show and I can only say that MMPR could be extended in season 4 instead of Zeo, because the series had unlimited potential and still could put much more than it actually showed... We never got old megazords fight we never got backup of dragonzord ect. great actions, because you wasted your BIG potential running only japanese footage...shame on you! I feel sorry to you guys you thought that turbo sentai were normal sentai series, while it was made as comedy like one... I heard that you started losing audience with turbo... ehhh I wish season 4 was still based on MMPR and Zeo become season before in space I liked turbo but now I feel it would be better, if that sentai series never been used...
I still think the design at the beginning is one of the most gorgeous. It looks amazing. We’re so lucky to witness this behind the scenes. Thank you so much!
Jeff Pruitt you've introduced me to the greatest thing to ever grace my childhood, and the heroes that continue to inspire me to this very day. Thank you very much!
haven grown up with MMPR and now a fan of Super Sentai, this really is a very cool inside look, especially because I'm going to school to be an actor and would love to be a part of a Sentai type show. the amount of effort and love that goes into these shows from the tech guys really impresses me. despite my issues with current power ranger shows, I still have huge respect for the guys in the suits and doing all that "magic" behind the camera.
I thought the white tiger zord design was so cool looking growing up , never would've thought it was a stunt man in there , Dope and very creative how they put that together
The beginning of the video shows the same cloud backdrop for every closeup shots of the objects and characters doing special attacks. That backdrop was first created in Goggle V and now this backdrop doesn't exist anymore starting Carranger.
It's 99% standing around and waiting for your part. :) Also, any stages involving miniatures and over-cranked cameras has a lot of lights. It's absolutely miserably hot, especially during summer. I have memories of days on miniature and motion control stages, working to get shots done until the sun came up. :)
Must have been very dangerous to film the zords each time they were summoned by the Power Rangers. How you kept the camera crew from getting trampled by the zords is incredible.
Wow!! This is absolutely stunning!! I'm amazed at how simple everything is from setting up the shots, shooting them, and preparing for the next shots! I've worked on a few low budget films as an extra and I would agree I've never seen such simplicity, efficiency, and collaboration. Everyone was on the same page and it's true you never hear the assistant directors or the director himself shouting out directions! My favorite part is learning how they did the small explosions whenever the characters received damage during an attack!! Thank you so much for this!
Indeed both interesting and amazing. It's especially cool to see just how fast they finish these shots. Those suit actors sure know what they're doing :3
What a video! It's fascinating to see the tokusatsu genre filming techniques. They use the same techniques year after year for decades and still make the experience feel brand new for each series. Shame not all of the Dairanger footage was used. The visuals in that show were awesome. I hope more gems like this pop on down the line.
Jeff, thank you for giving us fans a better look at how something like this really comes together. As a life-long fan of the series, this is really an amazing video
This is amazing to watch! As much as I've seen behind the scenes look at modern Sentai/rider, being able to see the magic of how Dairanger was made is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing. You just got me as a subscriber
Thank you so much for this video. It's a gem! I love Dairanger so much growing up. In Thailand, the show was very popular among Thai children at the time, too.
I've been dying for some behind-the-scenes footage of sentai-- this is seriously so amazing. Please, please, PLEASE upload more home videos !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In 1998 or so, I skipped a school play I was supposed to be in because I really wanted to see Power Rangers. My teachers weren't happy, same with my parents who weren't at home and i was supposed to take the bicycle to get to the school. But i just loved the MMPR and couldn't even miss one part of it every saturday. Greetings from germany and thanks for an amazing show. 😊
Thank you Mr. Pruitt. I only saw a few minutes but will watch it all. I thought we didn't have a lot of behind the scenes of Super Sentai or Power Rangers (although PR has been slightly more plentiful). Of course, this works for both. In either case, thank you for this video and for all your work on Power Rangers (and that goes any person involved with bringing any Toku to life :) ).
It was really cool seeing a part of the process behind that frankly iconic Mega Tigerzord/Shinsei Gattai Kiba DaiOh transformation. I don't think I ever realized that the Thunder Megazord's chest plate was on the Mega Tigerzord's back! The footage of the Bandora Palace model was really cool too.
Just saw this video. It really echoes through time and remind us of our childhood and how we were super into those shows. Thank you for sharing this, you really documented a piece of sentai history.
Thanks for all you've done to make PR the icon it is today. The first seasons will always be my favorites, largely due to your awesome fight scenes. I love how most of the actors back then could do their own civilian fights, but it's probably good they didn't do the costumed ones as well, or we might have lost them to injuries like Thuy. Great job!
And no worries about the quality: Behind the scenes video never get the same love as the actual show's footage. Any behind the scenes from before the 2000's of either Sentai or Rangers is a blessing. Thank you again. :)

Hi Jeff. I'm glad that you post a value video. I was amused to watch the video. By the way, there is a sad news. 38:42 man is Tastuya Nomi as Green ranger died at 47 on 18th May 2017.
Them spandex...thanks for uploading this to us viewers, it's truly marvelous to see how much effort and work is put into this and make it appeared so awesomely when I watched this as a kid.

I literally just finished watching gosei sentai dairanger last week so amazing to see this behind the scenes of it 👍👍👍👌👌👌 I'm currently watching kyouryuu sentai zyuranger thank you for the video!
Damn, why did i watch this only now?? Awesome material, thanks Jeff. As a fan of earlier Sentais (they were big here in Brazil in the 80s), I always looked for BTS material.
Oh, what a treat! I can't understand any of what they're saying, but the in-camera commentary is appreciated. I saw MMPR-2 instead of DaiRanger, so it's difficult seeing this and not thinking of MMPR, but this is Super Sentai and it's interesting to see the differences. But regardless, thank you so much for posting this!
It's amazing to show those things, I like that. My kudos for sharing this with us and of course for making my childhood wonderful with nicely done sentai productions to entertain me :)
Toei should really put all these old props in some sort of museum or something... instead of having it rot away in a back lot... Actually recognized a lot of these from my childhood
There is a museum like that. Toei has one in Kioto if I recall. It also has exibitions from other shows like Kamen Rider series, Metal Hero series and PreCures.
I want that done here in America too. How about a traveling exhibit with 30 years worth of stuff from all the Power Rangers series, costumes, monster suites, props, zords, toys, artwork, etc. They’ve done it for Disney, Harry Potter, Marvel, and CSI at the Franklin Institute. I’d also like one for The Muppets there as well.
The whole shooting in sequence and constant switching of camera direction is very impressive. At first I was thinking what a waste of time all that moving around was but I have to remember that these are seasoned crews working on a genre that has been around since the mid 70's in Japan so they obviously know what they are doing.
So glad that I found this video. I watched Zyuranger and now currently in Dairanger because I wanted to see how different they were. Seeing behind the scenes is so cool
very nice to get this sort of behind the scenes look from one of the older sentai series. You occasionally see them pop up as specials for the newer ones, but never like this :) thankyou for sharing this
I really admire the actors who put on those robot and monster suits to entertain us with these shows. I still prefer a guy in suit versus CGI most of the time when it comes to these shows.
alucard624 Currently watching Wild Force and man, couldn't agree with you more
SAME
Same. It’s more real.
You so right just watched the movie omg those zords ruin the movie for me
The cgi looked horrible. Lost galaxy was the beginning of shitty looking zords
For those who have asked: This video was shot over June 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of 1993.

Thank you very much, Sir. I, for one, appreciate the BTS videos of how my favorite childhood shows were made.
So was this research for when you were doing the show?
for 20+ years I always wondered what material they used to make the robots. seeing what they used and how they were put together and even watching you touch them was so incredible. thank you for sharing this.

Thank you for posting this! This is so awesome. I love behind the scenes footage like this, seeing how the magic happens.
12:53 That Corvette is from Tokusou Robo Janperson, one of my personal favorite tokusatsu shows. I would've loved to have taken a photo with it.

Have you made it as an actor?
Do you have experience being a stuntman in any action shows?
It’s amazing they can do any choreographed moves in those suits. So awesome!
I know this was posted 10 years ago but I am SO HAPPY this is popping up on my feed. TH-cam's feeding me well

+BarneyStudioz I concur!
The Zords or mecha pieces were done by a puppet or remote control.
Thanks for posting this!!!! Now I want to go re-watch Dairanger again.
13:32 is this the location of some Kamen rider fights? Example Kamen Rider Fourze
Seriously, thank you so much for sharing this! As a Super Sentai fan, I always wanted to make a fan video for myself, and watching this backstage video could be so useful for my project!
This was very awesome to watch. Never thought I'd get a behind the scenes look into the zords, or how certain stunts were done. Very interesting. Thank you!
youtube being epic in recommending things. thanks for making this. I remember seeing teaser announcements on cable for the show shortly before the pilot went up
What a cool behind-the-scenes look of the debut the White Ranger in the American version of the Power Rangers show. Thanks for the footage!
Thank you so much for sharing these tapes and so much insight regarding power rangers and sentai.
These shows made my childhood bearable :)
15:09 really cool seeing the 1st AC pull the tape to measure distance for this, I'm a 1st AC in the modern day and it's cool to see footage of old 1sts work in the 90s

This is so much to watch and learn how such epic stuff came out of this.
That's an amazing document! Thank you so much.
This is a great video. Good to see file footage.
Congratulations! excellent rare movie.
I have never before seen anything like this!! So nostalgic! Thanks so much for sharing Mr. Pruitt!!
It's amazing to show those things, I like that.
My kudos for sharing this with us and of course for making my childhood wonderful with nicely done sentai productions to entertain me :)
Thank you for posting this, man!! It was awesome!!!
Maciej Adamiak Awesome! Thanks for the info. :)
there are some films with that museum on yt too. Look for them if you want.
Some of the suits are on display, but I don't know about the models and other props.
Awesome Jeff, thanks so much man !
Jeff pruit you are a true sentai in your heart tnx for upload
This is the most awesome video on the internet.
This is fantastic! Thank you very much for sharing this great footage!
still educational today! thanks for the upload, sharing this to at least a few people.
This is amazing. Thank you so much for this.
So glad that I found this video. I watched Zyuranger and now currently in Dairanger because I wanted to see how different they were. Seeing behind the scenes is so cool
Awesome!! Thanks for sharing Jeff Pruit!! You Rock!! Love Power Rangers AND Sentai!!
This is so amazing, they had to have amazing storyboards or something for everyone to know exactly what to do next
Definitely more difficult than the Ultraman series so thank you guys for all your great work 👍🤝🙌👏.
1:36:38 - "Don't be so sure of yourself, White Ranger. If you're not careful, history will repeat itself"
This is so awesome! Thank you for sharing.
very nice to get this sort of behind the scenes look from one of the older sentai series. You occasionally see them pop up as specials for the newer ones, but never like this :) thankyou for sharing this
Never before seen footage never released anywhere. Thanks for the footage.
What a gem of recorded footage
Thank you for posting this
What's insane is that I can't find any behind the scenes photos from super sentai that feature monster costumes...
my entire life was a lie. that wasn't a real zord
No shit buddy, no shit 😂
