    its time for siargao to build typhoon resistant/proof kind of houses and resorts.... di na uubra siguro ang mga native na bubong sana yun ang isa sa mga lessons learned ng siargao.. it will still be a great tourist destination pero sana may matutunan sa pinagdaanang to

      That's what I thought too... probably design houses similar to Greece's Santorini or Mykonos.

Peace for the holidays!!!

    It took 10 years for Tacloban to recover from Yolanda which was worst hit..it will take 5 years in my estimate for beautiful Siargao to recover. REBUILD SIARGAO!! LETS REBUILD SIARGAO!! MAKE IT EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL AND BETTER! WE CAN DO IT

      @anothaview Hmm too expensive dude, this type of Typhoon only hits once every 30-40 years or if ever.... the main cause of the damage was from falling coconuts trees, large trees in general around buildings and flying debris, so perhaps a realistic and affordable idea is just to redesign the island plan - factor in the seasonal rainfall, water levels, etc and build roads and houses, relocate trees or plant trees in certain areas based on composite geographic data as well as meteorological data to take advantage of natural climate/weather and geography to harness it with appropriate design. So we can look at where trees should be planted and where we should not have them for starters, this will sigficantly reduce damage to buildings and infrastructures like powerlines, communication towers and water tanks etc, it will keep access clear and most importantly it will reduce the risk of death from freak surges, floods and mud slides, flying debris, falling trees and coconuts........ So my suggestion would be to employ a GIS specialist and town planner for planning out the new Siargao development. Maybe even employ architects for helping with designing affordable typhoon proof housing also for the locals...but with trying to keep with the cultural theme in mind, so although the new Siargao might have all these ideas and thoughts built or planned into it, It should still have the Siargao feel to it that we are all familiar with - the island feel.

      But it seems like these typhoons happen very very often around this time. They have got to build better homes I understand financially families can't afford I'm sure government can figure the expenses out. This is so sad

    • @Chavacano
      @Chavacano 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@krystingrant6292 yes but most times the typhoons that effect Siargao in anyway are harmless because it only gets a swiff of it not the eye of it. Only on occassions when the LOW barrometric pressure in centered into Siargao which is rare will it be a threat, as it was with Odette. There have only been 3 Super Typhoons including the 2021 that caused destruction in Siargao in the last 50 years. One was in 1969 (the worse), then in 1984 (less worse), then Typhoon Odette in 2021 which was less worse than the previous 2. As you can see Siargao is hit with a devastating Typhoon 3 times in 50 years and most of the destruction is caused by falling coconut trees and flyng debris from buildings and trees. So the damage can really be reduced signficantly if town planning is employed and infrastruture and access is planned out approriately. Good grounded utilities, such as water reserves, communication towers, powerlines, and good planned out road and communication access would also prevent damage to the infrastructure. It was observed that standard built housings (cement and reinforced roofs) that were built away from trees or sigificant threat from building debris survived in the Odette Typhoon as though they were not touched.
