New to gardening, you channel has been very helpful. I purchased some of your seeds at hunter's nursery, hope it all goes well and i get something to grow lol
omg, im sorry, but at about 5:50 on the timeline, i slowed the playback speed down so i could hear all the flowers she was naming, and it sounded really funny when she started talking about getting pulled over and saying the alphabet backwards, cuz i was listening to it slowly.....i've been wanting to buy the calendar for a while, but it seems im always at a point where i cant justify the purchase because i have only so much money, but one of these days, i do want to get the calendar :)
i'm 8b/9a and i've already started flowers and herbs outdoors (unprotected) - rudbeckia, gaillardia, strawflower, nettle, lemon balm, yarrow, milkweed, etc. and my lows at night have been down to the upper 20s, but 60s during the day. they've all germinated. some flowers need a period of cold as well. so good to start in the fall/winter.
I am so excited about this video. Central Florida 9b. It’s 81 degrees today with evening temps in the 40’s to 6O’s. About to start my 4th year of gardening. Yippee! Learning more and more from you and your husband. Can’t wait to see the baby in his coveralls and trowel in hand!
I have an older calendar as well. The new ones look like they have even more information. I’ve been trying to decide whether to buy the new one as well. I think I’ll get it. They make great gifts for my gardening friends here in San Diego.
What to plant doesn't really change, and if that's all you need, then you're set. We add in lots of new info, coupon codes, links to videos, etc. each year.
I had no idea to plant winter flowers until you told us! In your online course you are eloquent about happy summer gardens REQUIRE flowers for pollination, I'm thrilled that you hold our hands as we all journey together on our garden adventures.
I'm in zone 9b in Southeast Texas. My zinnias are still going strong and I still have Thai basil blooming that the bees absolutely love. I'll let those go until the first frost especially because I've already saved seeds from them. I'll probably harvest some of the basil before we're forecasted for a frost but I'll leave some just in case it's a light frost because the basil will probably grow back once it warms up again which is most likely later that week. Snapdragons, stock, petunias, and pansies are very popular here in the winter and early spring because they can take a light frost and seem to love our cooler winters.
The recommended method changes based on the variety. The seed pack (or check out our website at sandiegoseedcompany.com/product-category/flowers/) will let you know the best way.
I recommend everyone check and see if each type flower seed has special conditions: light, dark, cold stratification, pre-soak, freezing, ideal temps, etc. ex: pansies, I start them indoors in darkness and move them to light after 7-8 days. Since they are surface sown, I moved them outside under a humidity dome to maintain dampness and now I have a full tray now.
San Jose, CA 9b - been seed starting flowers since September. They really take off in spring! Pay attention to flower displays around town at shopping centers with outdoor flower displays for ideas for flower types.
Goodnight San Diego Seed Company! Thank you for another informative video! I live in Spain and wanted to order the calendar. Would it me applicable in the area here? It is considered a zone 9, 10 Mediterráneo. On the website I am not able to order it. Could you help me out please? Thank you in advance.

Did your zone change with the updated hardness zone chart?
Nope. We're still the same here.

Except for the date changes, I have the 2023 calendar. Can you tell me why I should have the 2024?

Can I direct sow straight into the garden here in San Diego or do I have to start flowers in trays?

❤️🙃 Great info

So what is the deal with having the sewing instructor the packages? That tell you when to plant?
Yup! The back of the package tells you what you need to know about sowing, growing, and harvesting
I now know what I need to do this week. Flowers ❤😊
Santa clarita ca 9b. Black eyed Susans are still going for me. Good video reminder. Always love your energy:)
