pizza dough can be used for amazing breakfast bombs! add eggs and bam--breakfast! If you are struggling, reach out. Even going to a food pantry for a few weeks frees up money to pay that overdue bill or to add to the foods they give you. Food pantries help, but they don't support you completely. You are worth it, there is no shame in wanting to feed your family. Thanks for all you do, Brooke.

I agree! I use the food banks periodically. I get flour, corn meal, sugar, oil and milk almost every month. It sure helps supplement my pantry and fridge.

I had to use our local food pantry for a while, at first it really helped. Most of the donations came from local stores. After a while though the quality of what was available got really bad. Improperly frozen items from the deli that when I'd thaw it to use wasn't eatable or my whole box would be bakery dessert items and I'm diabetic. I had to stop going there. Luckily things have improved for us and when I can I donate to the pantry hoping it helps them get better food. In the summer I try to take extra vegetables from our garden to the pantry.
      Video like this really help.

I learned there's no shame in going to the food bank. That's what they are there for! It took time. The 1st time if the hardest but you will get comfortable with swallowing your pride so your kids don't go to bed hungry unnecessarily. You won't get everything you need but a peanut butter sandwich or a simple veggie homemade soup made from canned veg is better than an empty, growling stomach. If you need help, reach out. There's no shame! We all need a little help sometimes & that's ok!

Where I live there's one that calls itself "food waste reduction center." They have no cooked food and hardly any instant foods. It's basically produce that is past it's best moment and packaged and canned goods that are close to the sell by date. It's in a low income area and everyone has means to cook, and lots of people can qualify as low income to go there. There's no feeling of shame because so many neighbors are there, and you're reducing waste. There are seldom donations with a good date. But at Christmas they usually do a nice gift package which includes basics like rice, noodles, and oil, maybe some canned meat, usually a bit of chocolate, and a reusable shopping bag for the recipients to use to collect their produce the following year. There should be more banks like this one in areas where they know people are housed (and therefore can cook), but they're struggling.

It helps me to remember that my grandmother could feed a huge group of people on a regular basis on a fixed income. And it was incredibly delicious! Scratch cooking ALWAYS tastes better, and it's cheaper. Due to high grocery prices, I think we're being forced to re-learn creative cooking skills. That's the silver lining in this inflation cloud 😀

When I cook chicken for dinner I put cup back or I put 1 breast back from pack so I can add it to stuff like rice to stretch meals

I do the same! I go ahead and cook it with the other chicken, then I chop or shred it and put it in a zip loc bag for the freezer. Then you can grab a bit to throw in a pasta, soup or rice dish, or a casserole. Sometimes, I can stretch it for 2-3 meals, depending on how it is used.

Do you ever shop at food city? Do you think their 5 for $20 deals are worth it/actually a good deal? We used to shop there all the time but ever since they built the Walmart neighborhood market a minute down the road from our house we just do all of our grocery shopping there. I think I might check out Aldi because I've never been(local to your area/ live on east end of town) and I watched a few of your videos(just found your channel like 2 days ago) and you mentioned getting some things from there for a good price.

I rarely go to Food City. When they have their 5/$20 marked down to 5/$15. It’s usually pretty good.
Aldi has a lot of good deals. I normally hit up Walmart and Aldi on grocery shopping days, since they are across from each other, to ensure the lowest price.
I pull up the Walmart app and check their price as I go through Aldi to make sure I don’t miss a price difference.

Do you ever make your beans with smoked meats like turkey tails or ham hocks

Feeding 4-6 depending on age and appetite. Write a meal plan. Easy - foods your family will eat, try for 14 (dinners) + lunch and breakfasts. For now try for inexpensive meals, no lobsters lol. Try simply at first. For I would be (and have been) stocking up with sale items.
Turkey - free to $0.27-$0.37 ~ in January you won’t mind turkey
    Chicken Quarters - 10lbs @ $0.48lb ~ get 4-6 bags
    Ham butt - $0.59-$0.99lb 4-6 hams
Sweet potatoes 🍠 $0.25lb, potatoes 🥔 $0.25lb, carrots 🥕 $1 for 2lbs, onions $0.50lb, stuffing box mix $0.59, can veggies 6 for $2, Breyer’s ice cream $2.12 (hide behind turkeys to save for birthdays), butter $2lb
    Dinner -
    1lb ham $1
    2lbs sweet potatoes $0.50
    2 cans green beans $0.66
    Total=$$2.16 to feed 4 people or 2.16/4=$0.54 a person
Breakfast- oatmeal or rice recipe from SFM ($1)
    Lunch - 1lb turkey $0.50, bread/mustard/leaf lettuce 4 sandwich $1-$1.50 or bean soup & biscuits
    Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner about $5
    $5x30 days = $150 mo + pantry and coffee = $180 mo /4 weeks = $45 wk + $5 wk fruit=$50wk This is a goal to work towards.

Thank you for your suggestions! I have a question about the oatmeal at Dollar Tree. How is the taste? When we've gotten oatmeal at Aldi, it smells/ tastes like chemicals (Round Up?). So I've been having to buy it at Kroger or Walmart, but I'd love to try the Dollar Tree oatmeal if it tastes good!

Hi Brooke. I’ve reached out to another channel but I’m not sure that they will ever see my comment. There is a content creator that I found this morning and I am worried about. I don’t know. Sometimes I don’t know if I’m being naive but what if I’m not 💙 I have to start something up so that I can help others if nothing else it’s encouragement to do that. One of my kids have taken over this account though so I need to set up an account. I’m don’t know what this picture is they have up on the profile. It does hinder me from commenting sometimes because I need to get an account just for me 🤦‍♀️
