I'm trying to learn maqamat, but there's a awful lot to take in... I'd love to hear how you think about what you played, the more detail the better!! ...also, is that a 15 string oud?!? What?! How is it tuned??
Maqams are built usually from trichords or tetrachords so Hijaz is a part of Huzam ... it's all about finding the links between them. About the Oud it is Samir Nasr Eddine design customized oud yes..8 strings 5 double strings and 3 single bass strings. A great sound 😉
@@samirnasreddine5103 thank you, Samr-- Yes, i know that huzzam (in its simplest form) is built from a sikah trichord and hijaz tetrachord, and am familiar with many ajnas... The sikah/segah family of maqamat (sikah, huzzam, iraq, bastanikar, maybe also mustaar and mukhalif) are the hardest for me... probably because the tonic is on the half‐flat, and i didn't start listening to or playing maqam until my 30s, i often struggle to FEEL sikah as the tonic, and find it easy to get lost with modulations (even to ajnas i know well and recognize easily in other contexts.) The exception is huzzam-- because I'm so used to hijaz and going down to the sikah below, or up to rast above, huzzam is easier for me to feel. Anyway... interesting you're giving lessons... maybe I'll have to take one so i can pick your brain.... I love your playing and appreciate your videos! Also, what a beautiful oud! Would you mind telling me how you tune all those strings? I'm thinking i might need to get one of my own in that style...it really does sound amazing, but o know that's mostly the player 😉 (i.e. YOU)
