    You make it look so easy...

    Heat the metal and when it’s cherry red twist it. That will prevent breaks. Do not quench that will make break offs easier to occur. Also working the metal does not make it harder but quenching it would though which also makes it more brittle and easier to break. Good job and nice work. Carry on

    Very interesting video. Why would hitting the tines make them harden up after a heat?

    • @EmileTheart
      @EmileTheart  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is called work hardening. Then you have to re anneal before continuing.

    Howzit Shamwari.... if you heat up the metal to cherry red then quench in water immediately you shouldn't get break offs. Letting it cool down slowly doesn't have quite the same effect on the metal structure. Are you ex Zim or SA?

    • @EmileTheart
      @EmileTheart  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mark. I will definately try that. I am an SA boy born and bred.

    What type of flatware stainless or silver plate etc. do you prefer?

    • @EmileTheart
      @EmileTheart  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never actually worked with stainless steel cutlery. I go to secondhand shops and pick up whatever is available.

      @@EmileTheart So silver plated cutlery works to do this?

    • @EmileTheart
      @EmileTheart  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@claraandriessen8423 all these are silver plated and works just fine.

    • @claraandriessen8423
      @claraandriessen8423 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EmileTheart maybe you are very strong, or the Dutch silver plated cutlery is much harder. It s almost impossible to bend, even after heating. I have to heat it multiple times to bend small bits, with the risk of melting off the silver layer…

    • @EmileTheart
      @EmileTheart  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@claraandriessen8423 most of the cutlery I use have very little plating left. Bit I kinda like the old look. It is still hard work as the metal does not soften a lot. The base metal also work hardens so need to be anealed a couple of times throughout the shaping process.

    Kinda deceptive because this guy doesn't tell you that you must heat the fork to bend the teeth ,you must have the teeth red hot to bend them ,notice how he jumps past the heating process, yall ,put a thumbs down ,he is being deceptive.

    • @EmileTheart
      @EmileTheart  ปีที่แล้ว

      When working with SS cutlery it needs to be red hot but with this old cutlery I found that heating makes the metal super brittle. So I much prefer cold bending. It takes a bit longer but I have no breakages.
      This process works for me, so not being deceptive.
