Basically, Momo watches a lot of old movies from the 70's and 60's, and she just met a guy who doesn't understand why her heart races when he introduces himself as James Dean.
Ken Takakura(1931-2014) is a famous actor in Japan. He is known for various roles such as a yakuza and a detective who are quiet, honest, and cool. I recommend Ridley Scott’s Black Rain.
Someone once described this manga/anime as a romcom between a nerdy guy and a gyaru gal getting constantly interrupted by turning into a battle shonen involving ghosts and aliens.
ken takakura was a Japanese actor and singer who appeared in over 200 films. Affectionately referred to as "Ken-san" by audiences, he was best known for his brooding style. from wikipedia
Fun Fact: Mangaka's editor recomended him to read 100 romances, so he can write better chemistry between characters, as his previous stuff was gloomy and kind of dark.
@@Muxeroth The english voice for Turbo Granny is Barbara Goodson, who played Rita Repulsa, the main antagonist in the majority of the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" series.

Since you guys talked about Chainsaw Man, and I am sure many comments already pointed out that Yukinobu (Dandadan author) worked as an assistant of Fujimoto (Chainsaw Man author), let me just give this bit of clarification. Fujimoto is a group project. Yes, he is a genius, but he got to the best environment possible to fully flourish. When he was writing his first major success (Fire Punch) his editor assigned him assistants who were already pretty talented but didn’t have that break out series yet, so Fujimoto could learn from them. So yeah, this ideia that Yukinobu learnt from Fujimoto is “incomplete”, as they both learnt from each other, with Fujimoto actually being the one who was supposed to be teached by his experienced assistants (all of them are fairly older than Fuji, btw). Since we’re on this topic, SpyxFamily author (Tatsuya Endo) only worked very briefly in Fire Punch, around 1 volume if I am not mistaken, so I wouldn’t really put him in the same basket as “Fujimoto’s ex-assistants”.
The mangaka was a assistant to Fujimoto who did chainsawman. It may have been during Firepunch and/or Chainsawman you can see the influence either way.
@thesmilingtitan never said that's why it's good. Rather the similarities between the 2. Having read all 3 on release I feel well enough to say there is clear crossover like it or not.
The hilarious part is that this isn't the first time this has happened with the Brothers, since this is also true of Spy x Family. Another Fujimoto assistant also created Hell's Paradise (probably the closest of the three to Chainsaw Man).
@@thesmilingtitan I somewhat agree but I get WHY they do it, its basically a voucher of quality to try and get people to try the show. Its brought up mainly in conjunction with the fact that pretty much EVERY ONE of Fujimotos assistants have gone on to make pure fire. Spy X Family, Centuria, Hells Paradise, Dandadan. DanDaDan DEFIANTLY stands on its own merits, but the reason I picked up the manga soon after it started is because I heard who was making it. Its kind of annoying as its defiantly good enough to stand by itself but at the same time it helps new potential readers/viewers discover it who may otherwise pass it by.
Funny you should draw that comparison to Chainsaw Man. The mangaka, Yukinobu Tatsu, actually worked on Chainsaw Man as an assistant to Tatsuki Fujimoto!
My favorite piece of trivia is that, despite the anime changing it to Trump, "Project Pegasus" IS a real-world conspiracy theory about Obama going to Mars. It's so fucking silly, and I love how the author actually throws in some of that real-world goofy shit in there and not just the greatest hits.
The original author, Yukinobu Tatsu, once debuted as a manga artist but failed to gain much popularity, and he then worked as an assistant at Chainsaw Man and Hell's Paradise before making his debut again, this time with Dandadan, which was overwhelmingly popular.
Oh my god, I am so happy that you are reacting to Dandadan! My favourite show this season. Been a fan since the beginning of AOT and HQ. So happy to stick around this long
you guys probably dont know this because you read the manga and not the anime, but Luffy´s JVA is turbo granny, which is wild to imagine that character saying those lines
I don't see the comparison. Sure, both have weird supernatural shit every episode, but Dadadan follows a continuous story line and so the escalations to absurdity are not surprizing after episode 1. Dadadan's start off weird and not just end up weird like Regular Show. Not to mention, in RS it's a different phenomenon every episode. Maybe it's more like Gravity Falls? Mistery Inc? I don't know. There is no cartoon exactly like this anime. There isn't even another anime exactly like it. Maybe JJK?
So the creators of Dandadan, Spy x Family and Jigokuraku all worked under the creator of Chainsaw man as assistants to his previous work, Fire punch. Which explains a lot actually.
Okarun's intro is still one of my favorite character intros because they could have easily gone with the "uwuw little sad boy" chatacter when Momo apologized, but instead he immediately started shitting on her for believing in the Wrong kind of supernatural stuff lmao
Never in my life have I seen more "two characters meet and immediately share a brain cell" than Momo and Otakun. And it only, as of episode four, keeps skyrocketing.
btw, occult-kun didn't think ayase was in love with him when she protected him from the bullies, it's just the classic translation problem of "suki" misunderstandings. it's less obvious in english but they tried their best with the translation. his "i know you're in love" line was in japanese a much more natural-sounding "i know you like (it)" and referring to aliens, because she seemed to show interest in his magazine.
