Tropical vs sidereal is like our father (sun) and our mother (moon) grew apart, got a divorce, and don't speak to each other much anymore.
Dad married some hippie chick (Venus) that throws great parties. She has many pets, and welcomes you and all your friends and family. At Dad's house we garden, study tarot and kabbalah, and we spend our seasonal holidays there. We make business contacts there and may even meet our future spouse at a barbeque.
Mom married her guru (Jupiter). He's smarter than everybody, but still has a child's curiosity and is great w/kids. We go to Mom's house when we (or our children) are having health problems, entering a new stage of life, or just wanna hang out. We do yoga, eat very healthy, and make friends (and a few frenemies!) w/other students. We celebrate life events like birthdays, weddings, and graduations there, and stepdad presides. When we grieve, we stay in Mom's guest room for awhile and ask stepdad hard questions. Mom makes sure we don't do stupid things just bc we're sad.
Many ppl's minds are poisoned against one parent, so we only see them at certain events. These ppl get drunk (or otherwise intoxicated) at dad's house and complain about mom being hot for teacher, or become one of stepdad's star students and visibly enjoy opining about how undisciplined dad has become since he met this (Celtic - gasp!) hedonist.
So ii really value the folks that show up at both places. They know that the planetary timestamp remains the same, regardless of the ink we're using, or the time zone we're in. Istanbul is Constantinople, whether you're Muslim or Orthodox Christian. It's a big city. You can choose to speak to half the ppl in it if you want to. But if you do, the most historical city in Turkey will become twice as small - and you won't even notice.
The Star of Bethlehem is the same conjunction - regardless of what sign we believe it was in.

Wonderful series. Dr. Pai and Michael Reed are two of the foremost nakshatra experts and it is always great when they come together.
The main problem I have with avasthas is that they are so dependent on what ayanamsa you use. Tropical vs sidereal will give you totally different avasthas. That is why I think avasthas should be based, not on rasi degrees, but on degrees from house cusps, with the ascendant being taken as in the middle of the first house.

I prefer fagan ayanamsa when using sidereal. It's accuracy has shocked me many times with exact dasha events happening for family members, as well as certain complex yoga's coming true. (those yogas' like: "the navamsa lord of the rasi tenth lord should be in such and such house,etc..." - fagan sometimes changes the navamsa sign of things and has seemed more fitting on people's charts I've tried it on. (as well as my own). I never like when people refuse to test other ayanamsa (or tropical) just because "well, lahiri is most popular!" or "government selected it, so it must be true" (excused I've had people tell me). Agree that the best thing to do is to test things for onesself! If someone tests fagan and says it's not working, then so be it, but at least they tried. Oh and of course, tests must be done on many charts, not just their own + 1-2 friends charts. :) - I will continue to try tropical out too.

Thank you for the excellent and clear discussion. I'm not clear on the reasoning for measuring the nakshatras along the equator rather than along the ecliptic. Because the nakshatras are intimately related to the Moon's journey around the ecliptic (always within 5 degrees of the ecliptic), shouldn't the nakshatras also be measured as closely to the path of the moon as possible. The Moon can have a declination very far from the Equator but the nakshatras are the wives of the Moon and should be placed close to him in the sky.

My nakshatras don't come out the same on sidereal and tropical zodiac chart. How is it possible? Shouldn't nakshatras be the same?

    • @synesthetica
      @synesthetica 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Don't calculate nakshatras tropically. Nakshatras should be calculated sidereally. So make sure the software you're using isn't automatically calculating nakshatras tropically when you select tropical rashis.

Good interview. Regarding tropical vs sidereal, check some of Jade Luna's work which he explains it in so many ways,
    ---
No Educated Person should follow Western Astrology... If the Babylonians, Egyptians, Hindus, Buddhists, Sumerians, Greeks and Romans used the real Sidereal Zodiac why would an educated person even consider the Tropical? Well, as Yogananda's Guru "Yukteswar" (a master astrologer) said "Ego" is the answer. "It is easier to be someone you are not as opposed to who you really are. So I am sure uneducated Astrology will flourish" - BLOG
Outtakes of Master Vedic Astrology. BV Raman
    ---
All ancient people used sidereal astrology, also, astrology means science of the stars, not science of the seasons.

Check youtube video titled "Jade Sol Luna, only a RIGHT and a WRONG Zodiac"

It is not an ego thing, because some people began using tropical zodiac after years of practicing with sidereal. That is not an easy change and it can make you vomit ;) You only change that if you really, inevitably find it work better.
As an interesting thing, you might look at BV Raman's descriptions of the rashis and you'll see that he was a good observer and thus basically described Capricorn as Aquarius, Saggitarius as Capricorn, etc.
But let's not get too much into it here.
