He probably doing SR (very popular theme among men rn). This thing dropping your voice really deep after around 1-2 weeks. So its maybe the case (no joke, check SR forums)
my biggest dissapointment was that they hyped up the vacation aspect, and the possible rivalry between the scions and in the end all we got was a rushed contest and a very decent second half that maybe should have been pushed into the patch content. Also they tried way too hard to make you like Wuk, and every msq step was the same boring "talk with npcs" routine... only to talk with wuk again. unrelated, why does jared's voice sounds so deep?
They always lied about that sort of thing, remember when Shadowbringers was "We become the warrior of darkness, your character will now take a darker path, even becoming a villain!" and then that was pure bullshit?
@@gfsdfsdf6546Shadowbringers just executed it better. You were still the Warrior of Darkness, just not a villain. Even the FF3 Warriors of Darkness weren't really evil.
We got the vacation. They just forgot to tell us the vacation came after the MSQ. The Dawntrail trailer is literally just all the post MSQ bits at the end. Like wut?
@@yanipheonu Except they LITERALLY told us we were gonna be villains, the japanese title "jetblack villains" even reflects on the fact that they told us we were gonna be something we're not. By this logic, we still "have rivalty with scions" by pure technicality even if it means little.
Remember they promised inter-scion competition....? Yeah... Going in a solo duty, maybe even a trial against Thancred and Uberdanger would have been the coolest stuff ever, but they chickened out and it makes me so mad.
Here's one thing that I will say, never believe YoshiP with fanfest, the problem is that he wants people to go off with their imagination instead of just saying it straight up.
@@MegaDarkness5000 Yeah as much as I love the guy he really knows how to beat around the bush on topics and how to hype up the masses and talk like a professional businessman. To be honest the people themselves are also just blindly going for it there is that as well. Yoshi P has said a lot of things, but who could have guessed that his words are not gospel or what people always think it is.
"Hey guys, go ahead. I'll stop them." WoL then battles Thancred, Urianger and Koana not to kill but to get ahead of them. I'd kill to have an actual competition with the scions in terms of battle skills and / or wisdom to get a reaction of them facing the WoL in his overwhelming strength and ability.

It's pretty dismissive to say that anyone who didn't enjoy Wuk Lamat's voice performance is either parroting other people's opinions or didn't play through her scenes in dawntrail. I played the whole msq from start to finish in english, and found her voice acting to be very hit and miss. Some scenes, she does quite well, but others fall so flat, they kill the entire mood of the scene (the final trial being the worst example) This is my opinion, I came to it on my own after finishing the story. Not agreeing with it is fine, but don't assume people don't like her voice acting just because some youtuber told them it was bad.
My argument is that it's not just Wuk lamat. It's the entire cast. Even the Scions had weird deliveries, notably krile when the expansion finally let her do something. The reason people notice it more with Wuk lamat is because she makes up the majority of voice acting in the entire expansion. It felt more of an issue with poor voice direction than actual bad voice acting.
It’s very childish for Jared. The entire “review” was him bulldozing any other opinions as wrong and suggesting anyone who doesn’t agree with him is deluded. This felt so different to his previous content and felt more like he wanted to rant that his opinion is fact.
It honestly comes off as trying to avoid any sort of "discourse" because of who the english VA is. Poor voice work is poor voice work, trying to blame the voice direction in this case is just making excuses for someone else.
Haven't played or care for FF14, only watched because it's a new ProJared video. That being said, I do not think that at this point "diegetic" can really be considered a word people use to try and sound smart, because it is frequently used and widely understood. And Japanese is a beautiful language, there's nothing wrong with preferring hearing JP voices, even if you can't understand what is being said. Saying there's an issue with that would also throw shade at the millions, if not billions of people in the world listening to English music without understanding a word.
@@henryjones411 Yeah, saying people just like noises they can't understand is like saying people who prefer the english dub just can't read fast enough for subtitles.
@@henryjones411 also the more i watch anime, subbed of course, if i turn my head i now can recognise words without subtitles because you pick it up. i also dont understand how people think i cant feel or recognise inflection/tone from a persons voice, even if you dont inherently understand it. all for one has a great villain voice, he sounds evil to me
Also they can't do that, ever, not because of fans getting weird but because of lalafels being a playable race There's a few sideplots involving that kind of relationship but it is kept well away from the MSQ
I agree with most of what you said here. You lost me at the "you just like hearing noises you don't understand" dumbass talking point to try and dismiss people who prefer the Japanese voice acting. It's very easy to have an application for the effort and delivery of the jp VAs without fully understanding the language itself. That shallow narrow minded twitter talking point needs to be erased from everyone's consciousness permanently. If you liked the English VA you can just say that without trying to discredit people who prefer JP with a talking point that makes you sound like an uncultured nimrod. All in all great vid I love most of your critiques and the way you leveled them. Just that JP VA left a sour taste.
Thank you so much for bringing this up. It was such whiplash to hear Jared making lots of well reasoned, satisfying points, calling out so many repeated strawman arguments you hear from those trying to defend the MSQ...and then suddenly drops the most hyperbolic, bad-faith opinion he's ever had that hits you like a surprise "Fuck" in the middle of an episode of Blues Clues. It felt like he suddenly became possessed by the voice of a chronically online Twitter warrior for 30 seconds and then moved on. Like, excuse me for becoming so grated by the english deliveries this time that I felt compelled to change to japanese by level 93 Jared. That doesn't make me some contrarian weaboo that he seems to think is the case. Sounds like there's a not-so hidden bias that he let escape.
Yeah, that whole spiel came across as really weirdly hostile and contrarian for the sake of... I don't even know what. Him lamenting we don't get to romance Wuk Lamat is one of the weirdest opinions I've seen levied at the story too, maybe they're related.
Yeah the voice acting was straight ass across the board but hers was the worst. Sounded like he went on that little tangent to appease a certain group of people.
The part about not every story needing world ending stakes is spot on. Reminds me of Jojo. 3rd part is about stopping Dio from possibly taking over the world, but the 4th part? Stopping a serial killer in a remote town. And that's one of my favorite parts.
The irony being the expansion devolves into world ending stakes at the 13th hour making that argument moot for defenders claiming people hate on it for not having big stakes.
Yep. Lower stakes doesn't mean "nothing happens". If someone kidnapped Alphinaud or Graha Tia and the MSQ was rescuing them Taken-style, we wouldn't be saving the world, and it would be lower stakes than ShB or END but we'd still care a lot. No need for a vacation or a world ending threat.
Good to hear someone else's disappointment in the supposed conflict with Thancred and Urianger. I was talking about that with some of my FC mates a few days ago, about how they teased that a bunch of times before the expansion dropped, and they were like "oh yeah, that was supposed to be a thing, wasn't it?".
@@Rynn21 I was so happy after the dawnservant part of the story. I was hoping Wuk Lamat would stay in the palace for the rest of the game. Imagine how much better the 2nd half of the story would be.
He went off on some imaginary voice for "putting words in his mouth" about not enjoying world building, then proceeds to put words in the mouth of everyone who genuinely doesn't like Wuk Lamat's voice. "You don't know what good voice acting is, you just like noises you don't understand." He apparently already decided the imaginary voice he's saying this to would use the "JP is better" argument. I guess I'm not allowed to think the voice itself and the acting is bad of my own accord, I must either be misinformed or be a weeb. Thanks for enlightening me lol.
Even as an ardent dub defender, I cannot appreciate some aspects of this expansion's voice acting. Wuk Lamat's VA was clearly not able to deliver with some of these scenes. Doing a slightly growly voice when she needs to be really pissed, and a slightly condescending voice when she's supposed to be pleading for reason. She manages most of the other stuff just fine. But when it's bad, it's *bad.*
It sounds more like he's afraid of backlash for talking about wuk lamats voice acting.. even though it has nothing to do with any drama or the actress herself.. it's pretty unanimous now that the voice acting is not good, he even SAYS the voice acting isn't very good multiple times during his streams!
Wuk Lamat was fine, but when she had to shout or be angry... it was flatter than I was expecting with how her character is supposed to be vs all the intellectuals we've been hanging around. Koana had a similar issue with shouting. It might have been a direction issue, since they did well in the CS during the Gulool Ja Ja/Zoraal Ja fight. Last fight? Someone needed to grab Gaia to yell at Sphene instead. They needed to bulk up some information about Bakool Ja Ja and Zoraal Ja more before their big surprises were revealed. All I really remember is that Bakool Ja Ja was a Team Rocket villain and Zoraal Ja was an expansionist with a sketchy advisor. There was a line about the responsibility that Bakool Ja Ja has for his actions, but his redemption was a quick turn-around and there was a line about Zoraal Ja's youth that suggested slightly that Gulool Ja Ja was a crappy father before Koana and Wuk Lamat came into the picture (or he could have just been a quiet child). Then there's the question about Mini-Me in the last area and why the robot looked like a Mamool... I was thinking they would be able to overwrite memories and Zoraal Ja was body snatched for a bit.
The whole wanting a love confession out of Wuk Lamat thing is a hard no. Considering that regardless of player input, the WoL consistently displays sadness and anguish over a certain bestest boy ever from House Fortemps. The WoL has their own opinion on things independent of the player's and having them on the spot to accept/shoot down a love confession would be a disastrous can of worms, especially when it would be smack dab in the middle of all that bad writing like a rotten cherry. As for the acting....no. Over the course of years I played from level 1 to 93, and Wuk Lamat was the voice that convinced me to switch to switch from English to Japanese. I listened to her a lot before I just couldn't take it anymore.
Honestly seen it on both end I have seen people attacked for saying they like wuk voice I think wuk voice is ok in most scenes but in certain ones it's pretty bad.
@crossdaboss8914 It doesn't help that the third boss of DT has one of the worst English acting direction and it's going to be the one that will be heard over and over due to it being a possibility in duty roulette. You know the thing that everyone grinds on if they play FFXIV.
I had to check and see if anyone called him out for that. I recently shared a comparison of JP and ENG lines during the trial with a friend and the performance is night and day. JP VA had a lot more depth and emotion behind their cry, meanwhile ENG sounds like they were just...well...*reading the lines*. And since I know there'd be some rando idjit that's like "ReAdInG ThE LiNeS iS WhAt A VoICe AcToR DoEs!", that second half of the job description is what needs to come into play, ACTING. They're supposed to act out a certain role or character in specific ways according to the context of the story, so if they're flat and uninspiring, they didn't achieve what they were going for. The whole expac through, I was listening to Wuk Lamat's VA just...drop the ball...on so many deliveries. It may not have been the VA's fault and could have been the voice direction, but that doesn't change that the performance we got was sub-par.
@@Rynn21 Yeah, if you follow him long enough you'll notice that he likes to be a contrarian baby from time to time so that he can feel special, it's really obnoxious. Defending Wuk Lamat's voice acting is certainly a choice. Could be the voice actor. Could be the voice direction. Could be the writing. Whatever it is, it's not something I would die on a hill defending. Given how Japanese players did not like Wuk Lamat either, I'd say it has more to do with the character. The english VA does nothing to help the character, and if anything, hurts her more. The bigger problem with this expansion is how much of a bait-and-switch it is. It was marketed as an island adventure. Like "Legends of the Hidden Temple" set in a FFX type world. Then we end up in Space Paranoids and Twilight Town from Kingdom Hearts 2... what? Going through Tron was not at all what I was expecting, and to say I am disappointed that I didn't get my awesome island exploration adventure is an understatement. And not only did I not get that fun island expedition, I got a bunch of tailing quests pulled straight out of Assassin's Creed, and they are just as boring here as they were there.
Yeah. Her voice acting sucked. The things that killed it for me were her obviously fake accent (it's so bad it feels like parody, and this is objective. You can listen to any South American accent, and NONE sound like it. The only way you'd think it was good is if the only SA accents you'd ever heard were from Americans "acting" in Saturday morning cartoons), inability to do anything resembling an angry/rage/upset emote (the other language actors do it infinitely better), and her gross overenunciation of words, which NO ONE ELSE DOES.
I played with JP Wuk. Even if voice actors in JP actually give a damn about their job, writing was still dogwater. There were nothing voice actors could do to fix a fundamentally broken character. Writers are just not up to par to write MSQ quest line.
I found the character boring. I think the VA for NA was bad in post-EW content and couldn't keep the accent up, but there are voice directors and people responsible for making sure the voice acting is correct. They accepted that work so to me it's ultimately their responsibility and they failed. I didn't hate her voice over work in 7.0 content as much as I was fatigued from constantly being around this character.
I'm not normally one to celebrate someone losing their job, but seeing Sena try to deplatform real talent on the basis of identity to try to get ahead in the industry killed the last shred of sympathy I was willing to feel for him.
I like how Jared made no mention of Krile's stakes and motivations for being here because ya know... the game puts in the absolute minimum effort in reminding us she has stakes and motivations in being here before resolving it all in like 5 quests near the end of the MSQ.
I'm fairly sure Jared was trying to be cheeky by specifically not mentioning her. Even when it would make sense to, even showing her on camera and then naming a different character.
"Her voice acting is amazing. You only copy opinions of other people! Or only pay attention at the start!" "I blame voice director for the bad voice lines from the end. You a stupid weeb for noticing the JPN, German, and every other language voice actor carry more emotion with their acting." Bruh. Let me help you out, you can just say you like the voice acting without attacking people who have a different opinion. I thought the voice acting was bad, but it was bad from the OG cast. The story is bad, so kinda hard to expect VA to carry it. However, the English was obviously the worst. Both from actors that been doing these roles for years and from new ones who have almost no experience and were trying to do an accent ontop of their voice acting.
yeah whole video felt pointless, glazing the content music and combat about how amazing they are and how top notch it is, then "I might cancel my sub" over 1 6/10 msq in 14 years lol
I think they should have gone with actors who can talk more naturally with the accent if they were dead set on using it. Trying to force an accent they're not familiar with clearly hurt some of the more emotional moments. It's rare for people to be able to hit a wide emotional range while doing that sort of thing.
@@shimapanzer9930Cancelling sub is the dumb part. Because while the MSQ writing was shit, literally everything else about the expansion has been great. And an MMO is always more than the main story. Yeah sure, FFXIV is known for it's fantastic story, and that great, but it's far from ONLY that
English is not my native language. To me, both English and Japanese sound equally foreign. Considering Japanese was how Wuk Lamat's character was meant to sound, given that the franchise is y'know... japanese, the difference is very noticeable. Japanese Wuk Lamat is a tomboy. Excited, impulsive, naive, and the VA portrays it well enough, despite being relatively new as well. On the other hand, I don't know if it's the VA or the voice direction lacking, but the EN VA is all over the place on that regard. Yes, the Scions are a mess as well, but since Wuk Lamat hogs 70% of the voice acting, of course it's going to be more noticeable with her.
All game's languages are foreign to me but i can speak all of them at least a little, i choose playing on JP both text and voice cuz its just better writing and voice acting after comparisons i had. JP is heads better on every level, VAs actually work with devs and create compelling character together, every voice is fitting and interesting fact is that they hire smaller actors for big characters while hiring more veteran VAs for side characters most of the time. Western thing of ENGLISH ALL THE WAY WE ARE THE BEST is honestly so annoying and tiresome at this point, they make such a big deal out of their importance but continue to consume subpar dubs and butchered localized writing and are happy about it.
Remember that part of the MSQ where we were going to handle a new technology we've never seen before and we had to make a choice of who to take with us and who to leave so we decided to take (Or rather she was forced on us) Wuk Lamat to handle the Alexandria ordeal and left behind Koana for the defense? We left behind the guy whose whole thing is tech.... to take a girl who didn't even understand who own people before we showed up....
Whilst I completely understand the sentiment, the counterpoint to that would be whether you think Wuk Lamat has the tactical prowess to set up a defence, let alone think about signing a deal with Radz-at-Han.
@@hyoushou8198No, leadership skill is about the only thing she has. Whether you like it or not, delegating work to people more skilled than you are is a leadership quality.
love the vid but if you think Wuk's voice acting is good then you are seriously coping or you have a unique opinion, the voice acting was god awful (the scions sounded really off as well) you dont need to look further than her performance in the final trial, compare the english one to any other language, the english one shouts as if its midnight and she is trying not to wake people sleeping and she has 0 emotion in her voice one thing you didnt mention that is unfair towards the character but is a reason loads of people hate Wuk (myself included) is that she is constantly glued to your character, like we cant get 10 seconds without her, when the texas map happened it felt filler af but i didnt mind because she wasn't there for once
Your rant about the Japanese voices is 1000% unnecessary (just like my opinion here). People have the rights to like any other spoken languages! I'm from South America and I love Japanese voices! Other than that, you seems to be very tired of this game xD P.S. This is just my opinion!
It was fine though. Yes, there are moments where the director should have asked for another take (and this applies to other VAs, too). It's only really noticeable with Wuk Lamat because she has the most lines out of everyone.
@@NesaruHow is he weird? Sena wouldnt pass QA for any self respecting QA, its clear Kate used her strings in the company to not only affect the story direction, but to keep Wuk at the forefront with that terrible VA
Lost me as soon as you started praising the English VA for Wuk Lamat while simultaneously shitting on anyone who has an opinion different than your own. You need to accept that not everyone enjoys the same things you do, but that doesn't automatically mean they dont know what they're talking about. That being said, I didn't like the VA's performance. It's a white person doing a terrible imitation of...whatever accent that was supposed to be, and it's very awful. I may not know what the hell the Japanese VA is saying, but switching audio certainly helped me get through the story. The character herself is still annoying, sidelines other characters that deserved more development, has inconsistent power levels, has all other characters pandering and praising her at every turn, and I couldn't wait to get away from her, but I can see why other people would like her, and thats fine. I don't share the same opinion, but that doesn't mean they don't know what they're talking about and arent allowed to enjoy things I didn't.
With all that said, I imagine there was some sort of voice direction given, someone had to write those lines, someone had to approve the lines that were recorded, etc. I'm not just blaming the English VA, but damn she didn't do well even with what she was given. If anyone else genuinely enjoyed her performance and isn't just looking for brownie points, that's good. I'm glad. Just wasn't for me.

"Stop being horny for Zoraal Ja"? Never! For everyone that was so easily swayed into peace and smiles, it was satisfying to see a character so far on the other end of pain and anger.
The problem is that they really didn't properly articulate *why* he felt that way and what led to it. Yeah, he gave a flimsy reason but it's like they only remembered they hadn't bothered giving him a backstory until moments before his death. Considering who his father is you'd think he'd have fallen a bit closer to the tree and it ultimately ends up making Gulool Ja Ja and his adopted siblings seem rather negligent as family members for him to have somehow ended up the way he did.
Such a shame they fucked up on that front too by giving him some half-assed "relatable" motivation out of nowhere. "This nation is puss*fied, Imma teach you all to fight again so we don't get raked in the ass by the first slightly aggressive oversea nation that comes around", would have been perfectly fine, simplicity is the key when you want to start something anew.
anyone who doesnt like wuk lamats voice is a weeb.. alright, lets break that down for a sec. Lets take the most talked about gripe with the voice acting (that you also complained about, jared): the last line in the interphos trial. There is no way to justify that voice acting in english, in the french and german dubs the actress conveys proper emotion for the scene, isnt phoning in an accent, and is able to properly project their voice into a distraught yell when screaming Sphenes name. This indicates a problem with the english voice acting. This is not a problem with the actress herself, this is not a slight against her character, and spending the video pre-emptively acting like you're correct creating strawmen for you to take down a peg makes no sense considering throughout your streams you complained about the acting yourself. As for the romance... why? What would that have added to wuk lamats character other than creating a typical damsel archetype for people to lust over? Wuk Lamats story was about her finding *herself*, not becoming infatuated with you. We've already had characters become obsessed with us before, and in an MMORPG it just doesnt fit.
"If you switch to JP voices, you just like listening to voices you don't understand!" Yes. I do. That's why I turn on subtitles and smile whenever Jotaro's voice comes out of the big lizard.
I personally alway preferred to play a game in its native language if it’s an option, even though I think the English cast is great in ffxiv. Those voices I don’t understand are still incredibly skilled actors who are conveying the tone and emotions of the scenes.
@@meamouse fun fact about VA and acting in Japan. It's overacted and not the true representation of how they convey emotions. They're intentionally overacted, so they're still not portrayed in a real sense
Some strong words against people who didn't like the voice acting, but I'm going to respectfully disagree. The voice acting direction in Dawntrail as a whole, for the English cast, wasn't good. And this isn't just about japanese vs english. It's shocking that someone who played and appreciated a game like Final Fantasy XII in plain English could hear Wuk Lamat's mismatched tones and then claim everyone who criticized doesn't know what good voice acting is. Most of your other points are fair and objective, but that one just stuck out as very strange. The bit about "words you don't understand" was a bit much too. Not everyone who uses the japanese audio doesn't know enough words and sentences in japanese. And speaking as someone who had to cope with consuming foreign media a lot due to lack of alternatives even if they don't, you can distinguish emotions in how they sound. Maybe that's not something people who grew in a culture very used to not having to absorb media in foreign audio always understand, but it's not that difficult. XIV has a good history with EN acting, usually. In Dawntrail it's a bit egregious because while the japanese cast was as emotional as ever, a lot of the "emotional" scenes in English sound like being read from the script without the full context.
ALso, as someone who often listens to movie dubs in foreign languages for fun, it's surprisingly easy to pick up on the quality of voice acting even if you really don't understand a single word. The principles of acting is pretty universal, and Voice acting isn't much different in that regard. Most people can tell with decent accuracy when a VA is being flat or not putting in the effort and when they do. It's actually more difficult to pick up when a VA is overdoing it rather than underdoing it. Wuk Lamat's VA suffers from both being fairly green on the scene and, as evident with even the other pro's sometimes comming off a bit low quality, not having the best voice directing. Meanwhile, in both Japanese, French, and German the VA's are more experienced actors and you can tell they are doing a better job. The French is sometimes hamming it up a bit too much for my taste, but still good. We also know who is the English VA and having checked out what little other work she has, yeah, she has potential, but needs some more training and experience. Add on the somewhat underwhelming writing and it the problem becomes accentuated. Honestly, I'm surprised how hard Jared went to bat for her, going as far as insulting those who disagrees with him. That's never a good look or approach, and the topic felt weirdly personal for him.
The EN voice direction was definitely very strange. Some characters were spot on perfect to me (Cacihua, trolly/train guy, and Koana off the top of my head), but some had some very noticeably stilted lines (Wuk Lamat and Galool Ja Ja mostly). Since all of these new actors are NA based rather than across the pond, I imagine they definitely would be working with a different company and therefore voice director. The fact that they weren't given more direction to adjust those lines is honestly sad because both characters do have some good work on display elsewhere in the game.
in french, Wuk Lamat voice actress performance are more than fine. Specially because they hired a voice actress that has experience on the matter, she dubbed A LOT of movies and cartoon/anime and tv shows, we talk about 50+ and obviously from my Profile pic, french is my mother's tongue. So your take is incorrect. Wuk's english voice is terrible.
I agree with everything except for your take on Wuk Lamat's voice. As I player I dont care if the problem is voice direction, badly writen lines, amateurish voice acting or a mix of all three. I did not enjoy her voice acting in EN dub, and for the first time since ARR switched to JP, as did most of the people i know. Did it make Dawntrail better? Hell no, the expansion is horrible, the pacing/exposition of the story really went down compared to shadowringers and endwalker. But at least I had a Wuk Lamat (with most voice acted lines in any expansion ever) with a voice that was better at expressing emotions/was better directed.
Insulting people that disliked her voice acting? I always thought better of you. There are tons of poorly delivered examples why her voice acting was bad. If you cant see the final battle as just one example, and say, "wow that was terrible" then you're just being disingenuous.
Did you stop watching the video before he finished that sentence? He said the final battle segment was bad and also said her direction needed work. Use your head

I don't agree with everything said here, but thanks so much for calling out these strawman arguments about how people who dislike the story just had the wrong expectations, want escalating stakes and hate world building. Honestly, if you loved the story then great! I'm glad. But please don't tell me why I didn't like it, or say that I'm even at fault for not liking it. Just listen to our complaints instead of pretending they are something entirely different.
The best part of this expansion was going to fantasy Texas with Erenville. That joy lasted all of five minutes before the game slaps you upside the head and says "Haha, just kidding! Go speak to Wuk Lamat yet again." Despite having a personal reason to be there, the game completely neglects Krile for the most part in favour of constantly pushing Wuk Lamat on you, and even at the end when the game should be giving both Krile and Erenville more, they fall neglected in favour of having Wuk Lamat pushed on you some more. The FF9 bits felt... unneeded? I like FF9, one of my favourites, but it felt like it was just kind of tacked on and not really used properly... you know, much like the Scions, and Erenville, and... the WoL. The visuals were cool though, but I really struggled to find any reason to actually care. This came to a head in the last zone. Oh, we're on a time limit before Sphene does a thing and we gotta hurry up? No, sorry. Wuk Lamat wants to speak to all the digital ghosts. Oh no! The thing we were hurrying to do in order to prevent Sphene from reinacting the plot of the original Super Mario Bros movie is now happening because we took too long? How could this have happened! But then we see Wuk Lamat just immediately get kicked out of the area and that was actually funny. Finally we get to actually have a big ol' fight. Aaaand there's Wuk Lamat again forcing her way into everything. Including smacking the boss for like, 100x the amount of damage you can do. So she could have done it all herself. Cool. Why are we here again?
Dude, you did not even played the game, you just saw videos about it. Your extremly overly complaining and looking for flaws there were never there? If you were expecting something like shadowbringers? Your delusional
100%. I was actually giddy with excitement to enter FF's spaghetti western area with just Erenville, just *explore* and do *actual heroism* for a change... well, that bliss didn't last long, but that was peak for me. And then the space ships showed up, and I felt personally offended. Not that they were attacking the city. Not that they were here to steal everyone's souls. But because they interrupted my Fantasy John Wayne experience.
Dunno how you can say the Wuk Lamat VA "slayed". Just because other characters were also bad doesn't diminish how bad she was. Also, saying people who listened to different languages need to step off is weirdly dismissive.
It comes off as just trying to support the VA, to counterbalance all the hate they get for this role. Which is fine but there’s a difference between not harassing actors and praising subpar work.
You want to stand up for and defend that community fine. But not this particular VA. No victim narrative covers what a shit person they are and how bad a voice actor they are.
You had me right up until the point you started on the voice acting. Talking down to your audience saying "you don't know what good voice acting is and need to step down" is such a shitty thing to do over a difference of opinion.
I agree. I found Wuk's VA fine for most of it, but her inability to scream with emotion was noticeable. I have no comment on accents here and leave that to others (it isnt something I noticed, whereas a native Portuguese/Spanish speaker may take issue).
sorry but no matter what self claimed artists want you to believe, there is objectivity in art. And the voice acting of wuk lamat was objectively bad, you might enjoy it, but saying its good is just flat out wrong
@@Jodariel.nah i just started playing the expac yesterday, wuk lamats character is the worst in the game and her voice is nails on a chalkboard. objectively terrible.
Aside from Sphene + The Endless place being the Temu version of Emet Selch + Amaurot what bothered me the most was how the Scions all felt like lifeless husks. None of the characters I'm familiar with felt like themselves. Like I get that they're not supposed to be in the main spotlight as much anymore but why even bother bringing them along if you're going to make them feel like cardboard cutouts? This was their opportunity to phase them out if that's what they want to do but instead they just lobotomized them.
@@MurakamiTenshi The Endless were harvested souls being puppeteered without free will to create a "theatre" of "scenes" read from memories. Kryle's parents could have very well been victims of Tuliyolal's attack. Not only that, no one in Alexandria knew what they were doing with their souls and memories after death. All they knew is that they'd go into "Cloud Storage" nothing more. Releasing them back to the aetherial sea so they could be reborn was the only correct thing to do, and categorizing it as genocide or trying some gotcha comparison to Emet's perspective is a gross misinterpretation of what actually happened. That's like saying that killing Tesleen to free her soul from being bound in the corrupting light aether was murder. Dawntrail has many issues and it stands at the bottom of my personal expansion writing ranking, but don't make up issues where they don't exist.
@@vaan_I don't wholly disagree, but isn't the aetherial sea the same process? They said as much. Each soul is the same soul taking another journey, they just found a way to skip that. Still, I can understand how that is an affront to these people, it isn't natural.
I disagree with your opinion about wuk lamat VA. That one sentence " Sphene, please listen to me ". Kill my vibe and drop my limit break gauge until minus in the final boss battle
The issues I hear regarding Wuk Lamat sound eerily similar to the issues people had with Lyse in Stormblood. In fact, a lot of narrative issues people had with Stormblood bear an eerie resemblance to Dawntrail. The comparison reaches its final form when you consider that even the people who outright despised Stormblood's writing still stuck around for the gameplay because the raids and dungeons were among the best in the game at the time. It really is interesting to think about.
The whole concept of "what if an npc was in love with you!" just seems so strange when you have Zenos who is ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED with you, to an extremely unhealthy degree, and G'raha, who has idolized you since before you even existed, then sees you and falls in love the moment you do one heroic thing. He may not explicitly say it, but it's undeniable to me. He loves you, heart and soul. Regardless of race or gender.
We had an actual Ghost attached to us in ShB, and Emet Selch was literally spying on us most of the MSQ, and somehow they were less intrusive and annoying.
Well this is different alright. Jared, if you need to vent, don't do it in a review. I don't even care about MMO's and this video properly pissed me off. As a member of the audience, I very much don't like being insulted watching a video. The quotes "Anyone saying this is either repeating what they've seen other people say in online discourse because they can't form an opinion of their own" and "You just like noises you don't understand" are both complete BS and you know it. I will give you this though: Final Fantasy and terminology problems goes hand in hand. It has happened before (guess which one!) and it will happen again!
Is it really out of character for her when she's on our screen 80% of the time and always splits us into groups with us specifically with her, every single time, would respect strength like her culture does, and we've barely gotten to know her in half of a patch quest prior? She wasn't a damn character for long. It would at least make more sense as to why we're CONSTANTLY with her ALL the time and how she comes to our bedroom while we're trying to rest, only to bring us up to the top and tell us (for the 6th or 7th time) about how she REALLY loves peace.
Come on now, you already defend yourself against "putting words in your mouth" about the World Building stuff which is completely fair, but you sure are ripping a new one if someone disagreed with the Voice Acting of Wuk Lamat being mediocre at best? Me and many others can think for ourselves and we are not being a herd of sheep 'spouting the general opinion' thank you very much, you don't gotta be so hostile about a topic that is incredibly opinion based, liking it or disliking it are both valid opinions. Rest of the video is good though, pretty much spot on everything.
I'm gonna hard disagree with you on Wuk Lamat's voice acting being good, and no I'm not someone who even heard the JP version or only played through 6.55 or following other peoples opinions. I played through the whole story, listened to all the lines and I can count on 1 hand where I thought her delivery was "decent." The absolute BIGGEST example I can give of her utter failure of delivery is during the final fight phase transition when she appears. That was the most horrendous delivery I've ever heard in that sequence of events. For starters, she busts in guns blazing, has a moment where she's fending off the hand that's crushing her and all the while is speaking normally with no hint of exasperation. No struggle at all in the delivery of those lines where there should be. Oh, or when she sees Zoraal Ja and rushes at him in anger "screaming" out his name. It just sounds like she's raising up the volume in her voice as she progresses through the utterance of his name rather than actually display any sort of emotion in it. This level of flat line delivery is present in about 98% of her lines. Off the top of my head, one of the "decent" deliveries is when you see her mom in LM. Edit: I did type out this message before I heard you mention the voice directing bit regarding the final fight, but then I'd call into question, at what point is it the actor or the directors fault? Because the level of flatness in delivery that existed in that final fight was present throughout almost the whole story. I just didn't find her acting to be that good, and I suppose the directing as well.
My dude the entire problem with the voicing this expansion is the voice director was awful. It just shows poorly with wuk lamat because she has the most voiced dialogue. There’s many instances where certain characters didn’t even sound like themselves. Thancred literally did not sound like himself on his first line of voiced dialogue to the point I wondered if they changed VAs again. Krile sounded sickly, and y’shtola’s recording quality was awful.
@@knightsolaire5351 The sheer fact that the scions had far too few lines can be and is most likely one of the reasons why they sound different. The amount of lines that they had can be the deciding factor as to whether they record at the studio or from their home. This alone can drastically change the quality of not only the audio file but the direction due to it not being on site where it's easier to direct. Despite the noticeable lack of quality in how they sound, they delivered their few lines just fine. I don't agree that it was entirely a direction issue. I think Wuk Lamat simply just wasn't good in her delivery despite the direction. Also, I'm going to mention this one moment again which to me is a tell tale sign of someone not good at acting, the moment where she screams Zoraal Ja's name. The simple fact that she didnt add emotion in that utterance of his name and instead just raised the volume of her voice when screaming out his name is a clear indicator that your acting just isn't good. That is a rookie mistake to make that doesn't need a director to direct. Like I said before, there are a small number of times that I can count on 1 hand where she did a "decent" job, and they had some emotion in their voice and whatnot, but overall that wasn't the case. It was flat delivery throughout most of it. At best, she does a good job at speaking with an accent.
@@Marusinae no, the reason they sound different is because they were warming back into their role and the voice director fucking phoned it in and didn’t ask for second takes of anything at all. I specifically said “first time thancred showed up.” He does sound exactly like his normal voice later in the same cutscene, and that’s from the voice director not asking for a second take since it sounded off. Large amounts of issues with “voice acting” can be exactly down to voice director not stating they need second takes. I’d be very interested to know her exact experience and what she was given in terms of context/notes later on.
@@knightsolaire5351 You're speaking as if you were there when it happened. You got any proof to back that claim up or are you just speaking out of your ass?
@@Marusinae everyone I’ve talked to with a level head about this has agreed that the voice acting is wacky across the board this expansion even for proven good actors. That is not indicative of bad acting, it’s indicative of bad direction. Be so for real.
Honestly, the entirety of the expansions narrative would have played out exactly the same even if our character just sat in our house or just chilled on the Moon watching along with a telescope
Come on dude, emotion is something you can take from delivery regardless if the language it's delivered in. Don't tell me you can't tell an obvious difference between the dbz big green dub and original sub just because you don't understand one of them.
One of my biggest gripes about the expansion is definitely Wuk Lamat and the first half of the story. She's not interesting and having to listen to her Sesame Street-like speeches was terrible. Plus the voice acting was awful. It sounded like the VA was straining their voice half the time. And then near the end, when I wanted her to have way more emotion in her voice, the VA's voice fell flat. She didn't have the vocals to give the character the emotional range that she needed to meet the scenario. I was laughing when I should have been feeling. So basically my opinion is the polar opposite of Jared's. Plus I hated being sidelined to this character. The latter half of the expansion was amazing. It was what I have come to expect from the game. The first half though....no. Just no.
Stop kidding yourself on the voice acting bro, Sena's performance was subpar. I know people are hating on her way too much at the current time but it's still possible to acknowledge that her line delivery was, for the most part, lackluster. This was the case for all of the EN voices, mind you, but she stuck out as easily the weakest.
Yeah, the voice actor was just poorly chosen. They might've worked as another character, but not as the *lead* character of the expac, esp when that character has more screentime than basically any other character previously in the game. Imo it was just bad casting. Claiming the VA "killed it" is delusional imo.
@@at0micl0bster And I hate that's being used as the "shield" from the very real criticisms. Like, can we not have an opinion that something is bad JUST because the VA happens to be trans?
His tirade on how good the VA for Wuk was made me die inside. Making the argument "well, it's not as bad as (insert character(s) here)" is just as cringe. Then following the comment with the ole.. "if you don't agree with me, you're just wrong," made it so much better. Good times.
I'm going to have to disagree with Wuk Lamat's voice acting. Is saying it's the worst hyperbole? Probably. But I also feel like saying that people who don't like it "don't know what good voice acting is", when the game being talked about is FFXIV is a bit wild. I found her emotional moments, and especially her angry ones genuinely unconvincing and flat. Some deliveries were so hard to get through, it straight up took me out. This is compared directly to Koana, Bakool JaJa, etc. I think that the character and her arc are pretty repetitive and cheesy, but the voice acting imo is to the character's detriment for more of the emotional moments, and it happens so frequently compared to other characters from this expac that it feels weird to say it's just the direction.
Jared defending Wuk Lamat's VA in this video is him engagement baiting - and it worked, given how many replies there are about it. He's not willing to entertain an honest discussion about it. Although I am glad that people are pushing back, and that a content creator doesn't get to set the narrative, or get away with trying to tell people how or what to think lol
If you honestly think Wuk Lamat's VA did a good job then i dare you to compare the English and Japanese final trial scene side by side. Its seriously embarrassing and i have no idea how that passed QA. Sure, the English VA director did a bad job throughout the expansion with other characters as well but jesus christ the VA's should take some responsibility for their own acting.
yeah, thought the same ^^' thats what annoyed me, in situations where she's suppose to be angry, she just sounds mildy inconvenienced, im not sure if its the voices actresses fault or the directors behind but its far from being good (and to Jared if he sees this, yes i do know what good voice acting is like lol)
@@CirnoFairy What makes you insistent on misgendering people? Have you tried putting yourself in a trans person's shoes? Makes me sad more than anything and I want to understand
@@Chaoskoch I've not insisted this person changes how they act or think with my comment, I asked why they insist on doing something that makes another deeply uncomfortable. I do not know the actress at all and they probably don't need someone to fight for her on a video that she will likely never see. However, I am curious to why people can not have empathy with a trans person. They have a gender identity that does not conform with what they have been assigned to at birth and are taking steps to change that incongruity. This is fine with all sorts of other problems be it with fixing eyesight with glasses or scoliosis with a metal brace, but as soon as society is needed to help heal another human being we clamour to shut them up and tell them they're wrong about what is going on in their head. If you as another human with your unique experiences need to have help from outside to change and everyone tries to shut you down at every given opportunity wouldn't you like to be treated better and not have people insist your existence is what's wrong? That is empathy, and empathy is surprisingly lacking when it comes to mental health
First half - you had me. Second half - you lost me. The DT story was really weak and I felt like my character had no reason to be there at all. It wasn't fun, and even after the 'big reveal' at level 96/97, I was so tired from the story I couldn't even enjoy it anymore. Abou how Wuks english VA 'slayed it' though...ha ha...no she certeinly didn't. I know you probably don't want to upset a certain crowd by being polite about it and calling it a failure of direction. But the range of the VA was just not enough for such a character with very emotional scenes. listen to the voice acting in german, french, japanese and then compare it. I'm german myself, played the expansion with german voice acting, understood it all. i never once said anything against the german voice acting, which was quite good this time around. When I saw scenes of the english VA it was like night and day. So no...I don't just 'listen to sounds I don't understand'. That argument is really weak.
Pretty hot take saying people only play with JP to listen to voices they can't understand. So whats next? Watching foreign movies on mute? Not like you can understand the words.
I didn't notice at first, but now I see what you mean. It reminded me of speech therapy to help people slow down their speech for the sake of others who couldnt 'listen and comprehend fast enough' and I felt bad for those people. The princess of another land, who's only real flaws are she's TOO optimistic and kind, gets to go travel the world and beat up her bully and show up her older brothers, all while having constantly bizarre romance coded scenes with the big hero MC, culminating in the final scene where she rips off the actions of a previously beloved character, and saves the day, and everyone loves her.
Romance coded? That’d be weird and creepy, nah they’re clearly coded as mentor mentee, not romance, her flaw isn’t being optimistic it’s being bullheaded and impulsive, like did you even play it?

Defending Wuk's VA that hard there felt pretty out of place. They're VERY OBVIOUSLY not a great voice actor, and sound like someone off of fiver when compared to the rest of the cast
Worst part about the wasted potential of a 'love arc' with Wuk, is that Yoshi-P has addressed this in the past with characters like Aymeric, Hauchefant, Hades/Emet with Azem, G'raha Tia ect.. They don't want to 'force players into a relationship' even if it's one sided. They don't want to do that from a narrative stand point because they want us to determine how our 'unique story' plays out. Aka.. as you said.. they have no balls. Hard disagree with the VA part, you need to compare her delivery to the other VAs (JP and even the German one), compared to those it's night and day difference, the EN VA CANNOT scream with emotion, (spheeeeeeeen listen to me.) scene is a perfect example of that, there's plenty of other examples that are similar throughout the story, being this blind to this flaw is just disappointing to see from you, it's OK to be critical of VAs, and not praise them and call their work perfect when it was below average for the most part, if you blame voice direction, Koana, who came from the same studio, absolutely killed it, you for sure have shit taste if you think the EN VA did a "perfect job".
Spot on. There's so much wasted potential in there. Take the cooking contest, for example - Wuk Lamat gets paired with Koana. That is the single most boring option. How much more interesting would it have been if our group got paired with Bakool Ja Ja? It was right after the kidnapping, there could've been a ton of fun back and forth between the groups, they could've fit the fight between Wuk Lamat and Bakool Ja Ja in while we were there... but no, we get to join Koana and our friends because the writers didn't have the balls to have an actual conflict between the Scions happen. Then there's Erenville and Krile. Neither of them got enough screen time or buildup for their stories, so their segments in the final zone didn't hit anywhere near as hard as they could have. They desperately needed to focus more on the supporting cast rather than spend so much time with Wuk Lamat. And speaking of time, Dawntrail is the second-longest expansion in terms of cutscene duration. It drags on and on for SO LONG and it feels like the writers and developers badly needed to trim the fat from the story. And I'm with you on the idea of replaying ARR over this - at least you actually have stuff to do. Dawntrail has you sitting through about 4-5 hours of cutscenes before anything remotely interesting happens. Anyway the dungeons, trials, and raids were all great. Can't wait for more of the Arcadion. My favourite raids so far, for sure.
Hell, pairing with Bakool Ja Ja could have shown a glimpse of his true character which could have made his redemption better rather than the flat "We redeem you now because you joke and we'll ignore that you, on a whim while cackling manically, released an apocalypse beast who would've killed untold millions if not for us managing to stop it".
@@fredy2041 I have zero issues with her VA and found her likeable as a character, but if you'd like to try and back up that ridiculous accusation, you're more than welcome to :)
I was doing all my msq dungeons with NPC, having Wuk Lamat on a team, so I didn't really get the vibe I was doing everything for her, quite opposite. She could ask WoL to just beat everyone up, but she wanted to do what she can herself. Like the duel with Bakool Ja Ja.
Heck eve without taking her through dungeons with me I didn’t feel like she was making me do stuff for her. In fact even most complaints I see are about her doing too much and not giving us enough to do.
I feel like every so often. the script writers remembered "oh shit, remember the girl with the earing? what was her name again? we gotta give her 2 minutes. it's been like 8 hours."
Given that they originally had a heavy focus on what her role would be.. only for them mysteriously stop talking about it a few months before launch, straight up _screams_ last minute rewrites.
Wuk Lamat's English voice actor was terrible. I'm not changing my mind because you throw an ignorant logical fallacy out, suggesting all detractors are just people are parroting each other, and their opinions aren't genuine. That said you opened my eyes to parts of the story I thought were fine originally, now my overall opinion has degraded even further.
I really wanted Wuk Lamat to have a moment to prove her character. If she, as the first WAR mentor did, lost control with rage for revenge for her father. Could do a solo instance where you have to 1v1 her to calm her down.
1. That would break lore. Just because she wields an axe doesn't mean she's a capital W Warrior and when you briefly control her she doesn't have any abilities related to the Inner Beast because she doesn't have one because she ISN'T A WARRIOR 2. It wouldn't fit her characterization. Even ignoring the lack of an Inner Beast she doesn't have bloodlust, rage and anger are not motivating emotions for her. Just because you don't like her characterization doesn't mean having her do OOC things would "fix" her. 3. It would literally just be a repeat of a previous story beat and if they did go that route you'd be here complaining that they just copies Curious Gorge losing control of his Inner Beast
@@Evnyofdeath Those are good points. My bad, I was oversimplifying. My idea boils down to the concept of passion manifesting in good AND bad ways. I think a moment of weakness for Wuk + exciting duty + character development for her would have gone down nice. I don't really feel like she was ever really tested or grew that much.
Man, so aggressively defending the voice acting to the point of stating that detractors have no idea what sounds good to begin with. I really have to wonder what could be motivating him to make such bold statements.
Hinging an entire expac story around a single character is just baffling to me. Like, Stormblood had Lyse as a main character but it would still occasionally place her in the backseat so characters like Alisaie, Yugiri, Raubahn and Hien could get the spotlight.
I think Wuk Lamat was a do-over at what they tried to do with Lyse, who people complained "was just along for the ride and never really said or did anything important." Seems like now people don't like that they went so far in the other direction. But I liked both Stormblood and Dawntrail a lot so what do I know?
Anytime a character is written in a way that screams "Everyone could like this character, how could they not!" I guarantee everyone with any sense will hate that character.
I have said this before in a few other places, but I think in the first half of Dawntrail, Wuk Lamat is fine. But after she becomes Dawnservant, her story is completed. She's done. And honestly I think the story would have been better serviced by having Erenville as our guy for the rest of the Expansion, what with his whole thing. He's got personal stakes, and if Wuk Lamat had remained in Tullyollal, maybe coming back for the 99 Trial, and possibly for the final zone we would likely have had a better story. But she lacked the strength of character to carry the story beyond that halfway point, for me.
agreed. Wuk Lamat's story should have been closed after becoming Dawnservant, and the Story-Torch should have been passed to Erenville and Krile so we could give them the screentime they were promised.

It's pretty dismissive to say that anyone who didn't enjoy Wuk Lamat's voice performance is either parroting other people's opinions or didn't play through her scenes in dawntrail.
I played the whole msq from start to finish in english, and found her voice acting to be very hit and miss. Some scenes, she does quite well, but others fall so flat, they kill the entire mood of the scene (the final trial being the worst example)
This is my opinion, I came to it on my own after finishing the story.
Also absolutely delusional that he was hoping for a romance with Wuk Lamat. Urgh.
The VA is trans so defending them gives you virtue points. That's all it is. Can't criticize the performance. Otherwise, you're just a transphobe.
It honestly comes off as trying to avoid any sort of "discourse" because of who the english VA is.
Poor voice work is poor voice work, trying to blame the voice direction in this case is just making excuses for someone else.

That being said, I do not think that at this point "diegetic" can really be considered a word people use to try and sound smart, because it is frequently used and widely understood.
And Japanese is a beautiful language, there's nothing wrong with preferring hearing JP voices, even if you can't understand what is being said. @@Rynn21 I was so happy after the dawnservant part of the story. I was hoping Wuk Lamat would stay in the palace for the rest of the game. Imagine how much better the 2nd half of the story would be.
Usually I agree with you Jared, but this time, it's such a hard disagree with pretty much every point that it hurts.
He went off on some imaginary voice for "putting words in his mouth" about not enjoying world building, then proceeds to put words in the mouth of everyone who genuinely doesn't like Wuk Lamat's voice. "You don't know what good voice acting is, you just like noises you don't understand."
He apparently already decided the imaginary voice he's saying this to would use the "JP is better" argument.
Yup must be a weeb thing, please ignore the german dub listeners with the exact same opinion on en Wuks awful casting

The whole expac through, I was listening to Wuk Lamat's VA just...drop the ball...on so many deliveries.

Bruh.

I think they should have gone with actors who can talk more naturally with the accent if they were dead set on using it. Trying to force an accent they're not familiar with clearly hurt some of the more emotional moments. It's rare for people to be able to hit a wide emotional range while doing that sort of thing.

The problem is that they really didn't properly articulate *why* he felt that way and what led to it. Yeah, he gave a flimsy reason but it's like they only remembered they hadn't bothered giving him a backstory until moments before his death. Considering who his father is you'd think he'd have fallen a bit closer to the tree and it ultimately ends up making Gulool Ja Ja and his adopted siblings seem rather negligent as family members for him to have somehow ended up the way he did.

anyone who doesnt like wuk lamats voice is a weeb.. alright, lets break that down for a sec.
I personally alway preferred to play a game in its native language if it’s an option, even though I think the English cast is great in ffxiv. Those voices I don’t understand are still incredibly skilled actors who are conveying the tone and emotions of the scenes.
@@meamouse fun fact about VA and acting in Japan. It's overacted and not the true representation of how they convey emotions. They're intentionally overacted, so they're still not portrayed in a real sense

@@DiscoSamurai that's not how language works
The fact that they weren't given more direction to adjust those lines is honestly sad because both characters do have some good work on display elsewhere in the game.
english yshtola sounds like shes in her closet and is using a shitty $2 mic (which she constantly peaks)
in french, Wuk Lamat voice actress performance are more than fine. Specially because they hired a voice actress that has experience on the matter, she dubbed A LOT of movies and cartoon/anime and tv shows, we talk about 50+ and obviously from my Profile pic, french is my mother's tongue.

But because they interrupted my Fantasy John Wayne experience.
Yeah :\ I was so happy to just chill with Erenville. NOPE. More peace talk from Lamat.

Aside from Sphene + The Endless place being the Temu version of Emet Selch + Amaurot what bothered me the most was how the Scions all felt like lifeless husks. None of the characters I'm familiar with felt like themselves. This was their opportunity to phase them out if that's what they want to do but instead they just lobotomized them.

They were mostly there to fill the Trusts

The comparison reaches its final form when you consider that even the people who outright despised Stormblood's writing still stuck around for the gameplay because the raids and dungeons were among the best in the game at the time.
It really is interesting to think about.

That take made me so confused, like did you even understand the characters?
Come on now, you already defend yourself against "putting words in your mouth" about the World Building stuff which is completely fair, but you sure are ripping a new one if someone disagreed with the Voice Acting of Wuk Lamat being mediocre at best? Me and many others can think for ourselves and we are not being a herd of sheep 'spouting the general opinion' thank you very much, you don't gotta be so hostile about a topic that is incredibly opinion based, liking it or disliking it are both valid opinions.
Rest of the video is good though, pretty much spot on everything.
Voice acting performance is not relative to people, it’s only subjected to objectivity

Just no.

You go out and show rhem how to do a quest, like pick up items or guard an NPC. He watches, talks to you after, and then says they'll try it themselves. He gets more confident and learns. He even changes his name to reflect the change.
That's actual mentorship. Wuk doesn't get to have those scenes....

Defending Wuk's VA that hard there felt pretty out of place. They're VERY OBVIOUSLY not a great voice actor, and sound like someone off of fiver when compared to the rest of the cast

What happened? Why was it deleted and reuploaded?
You should know why now because those things happen thanks to YT being GOOFY and giving us problems.
Editing was wack on the original upload. Dunno if that was on Jared's end or TH-cam screwing up the video somehow.
@@kyuketsukirook the editing is still pretty shit (most of this sounds like a single run on sentence)
(Could you imagine the sparks flying if Wuk met Aymeric tho... Pining for the WoL on both ends.)
they refuse to age up Alphi and Ali for the same no balls reason
Romancing Wuk is out of the whole fucking question

For Endwalker I took off work to playthrough the MSQ and I was hooked right from the start. Dawntrail I did the same thing... but was bored hours into it and pretty much forced myself to finish the MSQ just so I can do the new EXs and Savages, the content I actually am excited to play.
Voice direction for English was... weird. And after shit going down in EW this feels like a kindergarten.
What's worse is he says we don't know good VA. Like "Hey you can't make a judgement call, but I'm obviously better, so I can" with no evidence.
I saw your comments, you do nothing but being discusting towards wuk lamat's actress
Your a discusting person
Hell, pairing with Bakool Ja Ja could have shown a glimpse of his true character which could have made his redemption better rather than the flat "We redeem you now because you joke and we'll ignore that you, on a whim while cackling manically, released an apocalypse beast who would've killed untold millions if not for us managing to stop it".
@@fredy2041 I have zero issues with her VA and found her likeable as a character, but if you'd like to try and back up that ridiculous accusation, you're more than welcome to :)

IKR?
I was doing all my msq dungeons with NPC, having Wuk Lamat on a team, so I didn't really get the vibe I was doing everything for her, quite opposite. She could ask WoL to just beat everyone up, but she wanted to do what she can herself. Like the duel with Bakool Ja Ja.
Heck eve without taking her through dungeons with me I didn’t feel like she was making me do stuff for her. In fact even most complaints I see are about her doing too much and not giving us enough to do.
I’m glad you did this because I tried watching the vods and felt so bored but felt bad because I wanted to support you
Where is Krile??? She got sidelined so hard TT
This! I was so excited for this expansion because Krile will finally take the center stage but what do we get? I was so disappointed.
She even got sidelined in this video 😭
@@Jonathan_M59 LOL damn, I didn't even think about that
Wuk Lamat's English voice actor was terrible.
She doesn't have that inner beast thing tho.
1. That would break lore. Just because she wields an axe doesn't mean she's a capital W Warrior and when you briefly control her she doesn't have any abilities related to the Inner Beast because she doesn't have one because she ISN'T A WARRIOR
I'm glad you people don't write this game.
Man, so aggressively defending the voice acting to the point of stating that detractors have no idea what sounds good to begin with. I really have to wonder what could be motivating him to make such bold statements.
Wuk sounds like she’s talking in an Indian accent then goes to an Arabic one mid sentence it’s so jarring.
"she" wuks VA is a guy, so im just gonna call Wuk a man too
@@Sneedmeister At least you admit you're transphobic, even though Wuk's English Va is a woman no matter how bitter you strive to be.
