    Nice job as usual!
    So the "signal/noise" is "signal-to-noise ratio" (signal divided by noise), not to be interpreted as either-or choice.
    And I wonder what the impact of the Autopilot investigation (& possible recall) is if all vehicles are updated already? Would the issue a recall with zero impacted vehicles?

    Re putting radars back in Teslas, I had radar in my 2018 Model 3 which I thought was a great idea, particularly when visibility is impaired by weather or nighttime conditions. I was a bit doubtful when Tesla announced it was going to all visual driving but I gave the gurus at Tesla the benefit of the doubt when they explained why. Now it sounds like Tesla's reason for taking radar off the sensor system was not so much the difficulty in resolving conflict in signals (light vs radar) but the unavailability of an efficient radar unit. I am glad they are bringing it back.

    Hey Ryan, can you look into whether the BYD Blade batteries as well as the 279 range Austin Batteries are LFP. I know its not your fault for all the ambiguity and vasilation around the LFP & Reduced Range Batteries with Model Y's, but is there any way TESLA could take the time to BE MORE Specific about What Is What with this battery issues. I'm due to get a All Wheel Drive Model Y, HOPEFULLY in June or July, that I ordered back in December of 2021, but it seems like EVERYDAY there is another 'Oh-By-The-Way' issue with this EV. -- I get more nervous by the day with this $67,000 dollar car that my family already think I am insane for buying. For example with this report, I don't know if I'll be getting a 'Cargo Cover' with my Y or not! - There are sooo many 'Oh-By-The-Way' changes going on I have no idea what WON'T or Will BE in the Model Y I get, and that makes me feel nervous that my family (especially my 85yo Mom, who is buy half of it with me) will look at me and say...WE TOLD YOU Getting a TESLA is a bad move! At the rate things are going, I'm starting to loose confidence, especially after waiting dam-near 7 stress filled months. Although I'm not a religious person, this stressful process has me PRAYING it doesn't come with a load of DEFECTS as you have pointed out in the past.

Since he will never agree to something like that, the odds of it being fixed diminish tremendously. Change happens at Tesla when Musk mandates change.

    Someone help me. Are these real radar sets, or more accurately are they LIDAR sets (a laser technology system instead of conventional radio transmitter/receiver of a radar unit)? I'm just used to seeing Radar sets utilizing a relatively big radar dish -obviously these are not installed in cars. Also, I would think the best system would be a FLIR (forward looking infra red system) sensing heat signatures ahead of the vehicle combined with regular visual cameras. Visual cameras by themselves seem like a weak system (particularly in weather).

    When talking charge times, to accurately compare different pack sizes (KWh) fair comparison should be done by C rate. I.e. 1c would be full charge in 1 hour 2c would be full charge in 1/2 hour 3c 20 minutes. So if Plaid 100kw pack peak charge rate is 250kw then peak charge rate is 2.5c , new model Y has been reported to have a 59KWh pack therefore if its peak charge rate is 200Kw then that's 3.3c peak charge so at a cell level it's actually charging almost 30% faster.
    Occurred to me as I typed an easier way to calculate peak charge c rate.
    Peak charge Kw -divided by- pack size
    250/100 = 2.5c
    200/60 = 3.333c

    • @ymcpa73
      @ymcpa73 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't understand how this help at all. The peak charge rate only lasts for a few minutes. A more useful measure is miles added in a given period of time, like 200 miles added in 20 min when the starting SOC is 20%.

    I also received the text re: take delivery within weeks with the latest config built in Texas. The first time I looked the inventory of available cars a Model Y with the same configuration with 279 mile range was available at $6,000 more than the car I have on order (ordered in Nov 2021). I checked again today and now the price is $3,500 more than the car I ordered. No way in hell I'm paying more money for a car with 51 miles less range. And frankly, I'm pissed off. My order was supposed to be available in Jun 2022 and has been pushed back (now showing Aug 2022 but at one time showed 2023). Maybe instead of making new configurations as a way to suck more money out of customers they should fill their existing customer orders first. You might agree with the strategy to produce a standard range out of TX but really they should have built the long range out of TX first and if customers who had an order didn't want a car that was built in CA then they should discount the one built in CA if there wasn't enough demand not charge more for the one in TX (with less miles) in hopes of milking customers who put their order in many months ago. Would I consider a standard range built out of TX ... sure, but it needs to be $5,000 less than the price on my order to compensate for the less range and not more than my order price.

      We are in the same boat but this deal for the MY SR is for the people buying in at the current price, which is not us. I'm almost certain Tesla is doing all of this due to the Osborne effect. These Texas made Model Y's will eventually be unlocked and have more range. That is what I truly believe is going on. If I had a long range on order I would 100% go for the Austin built. Giga Austin is only ever going to make the 4680 packs and the LR from Fremont with all of their quality issues will soon be obsolete.

    • @adrianwood06
      @adrianwood06 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheAdventureAuto i was hoping that this would be the case initially with the Gigatexas 4680 packs and was tempted for sure but what they are really doing is placing less 4680 “actual” batteries 🔋 in the structural pack and charging more 💰(in my case) for less range. Basically, Tesla is then able to produce more Y’s with the same amount of 4680 battery stock making the margin for each gigatexas Y even higher. That is what looks to be really what is going on. However, i could see a bump in range happen from Santa Elon 🧑‍🎄 around Christmas time happening but maybe only 10 miles more range or so. 👍😄

      @TheAdventureAuto ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheAdventureAuto don’t get me wrong…i hope for your case but prepare for mine. 👍😄 That said, i disagree that the 4680 batteries 🔋 was a total flop. The sheer scalability alone and that it is in house for Tesla is a huge win not only for Tesla but also for the US in general forcthe fact that manufacturing is back on US soil again. By creating batteries in house, Tesla will have the ability to adjust course faster as oppose to overseas with their battery make up. Also, this will force other car manufacturers to do the same with bringing production more in house and also within the US again, think The likes of Ford and GM. This is huge for the US as relying on asian supply of battery packs is like placing all of your eggs in 1 basket for US auto manufacturers, not a great plan.They will likely follow Tesla’s lead in this. As for thousands of cancelled orders, tesla still keeps the nonrefundable deposit 💸 and they will have other customers take delivery of those model Y’s. As brother Elon said, they do not have a demand issue…they have a supply issue. They sell every car in their lineup that they can make currently and for the foreseeable future. People will overlook this moment as they reset their pricing strategy as long as they are leading the way in electrification. Again, i hope 🤞 for your case but prepare for the latter. 👍😄

    Good update; thanks Ryan. Re the DOT + DOE jointly building out half a million EV charging stations, it seems to me this administration is trying to play catch-up to Tesla by building a network of charges that neutralizes one of Tesla's key competitive advantages. Is the USG going to pay Tesla to take over their 30,000 charger network? Government is supposed to fund R&D when it is not commercially practical, not replace private sector investment. Now that Tesla has shown BEVs are technically feasible and practical, the USG intervention in the market is not appropriate.

    The main advantage of Radar is that it can see through fog and heavy rain, providing suitable frequencies are used. The resolution is inherently less precise than visible light. For example, a 10 GHz Radar is capable of resolving something 30 cm / 12" across with accuracy, but visible light can resolve everything you can see by eye. Higher frequency Radar could be used. So, for example, 60 GHz Radar can discern 50 mm / 2" items clearly, but it is attenuated significantly by water vapour, rain and fog. It is also more expensive than both lower frequency Radar and visible light cameras. But Infra Red cameras might have good capability to cut through fog, with good resolution, and with relatively lower cost. It will be interesting to see whether Tesla try such a system.
