Taking Estrid to a Farm Ride - Vlog 161 - Beth Endurance

- As always thank you so much to the team at Upper Boothay Farm ride. It's so nice to have a venue within 30mins that regularly has a Farm ride to attend. It's excellent training for youngsters getting used to being around other horses, it's super nice to get off the roads and have some grass to ride on and it's even nicer to be given special astro turf parking so I didn't get stuck in the mud! Although the did have the tractor at the ready for all the trucks and trailers. Just to top it off they even had a hot food and drink van, and we enjoyed a bacon bap afterwards.
Estrid is going from strength to strength at the moment, she seemed to really enjoy this ride, she was much more confident, even overtaking a couple of times and in front once or twice. Considering she's done pole work I was a little surprised when she leapt 4ft in the air over two telegraph poles on the ground and I was very proud when she jumped out of the water jump up a little step.
I always get off Estrid having had a lovely time and it's just the best feeling. I'm really enjoying her education process and I feel like I'm a much better rider and horse-person because of her, she's so sensitive and quick to learn that I've needed to up my game to match her needs. I'm always learning and I hope always trying to get better. My goals for 2023 definitely reflect a more overall horsemanship progression rather than just Endurance, but more about them another time.

She's coming along so nicely! I'm so impressed with how you take her nervousness in stride, along with the wind and mud. I need to get over my own "what-if" monsters, after having a high strung bucking TB for 25 years. Watching you laugh and call her antics silly shows me a better path forward.
It doesn't mean it doesn't scare me because it does sometimes but I have trained my brain and body to relax, I talk so much because that's my way of keeping me breathing and joking about it rather than getting tense and nervous. I highly recommend looking into a guy called Charlie Unwin, he has a book called Inside Out, it's good x

Hi Beth! It's been a while since I've been able to check in! It was fun to see you and Estrid getting in a good run. What wonderful riders you have to accompany you. You do such a nice job keeping Estrid calm and on track when she gets nervous. Since I can't ride myself right now, it's fun to live vicariously through you! 😃Be safe. Happy New Year!

Do you find Estrids gaits and movements very different from Tissys being different heights? Or both being arabs quite similar? Estrid did so well through that big lowered square water crossing I even had my heart in my mouth for a second there 😅
Tissy is very very choppy and bouncy and quick in all directions. Whereas Estrid is very smooth. Most my arabs have been similar in that they feel quick and sharp, with lots of go but they all have subtle differences too x
