  • The renovated SFMOMA makes it one of the most considered gallery spaces in the world. But it's not just the museum that had a redesign. The SFMOMA has completely reimagined the audio tour experience with it’s new app.

Rambl is a good alternative for museums making their own app. It also supports Android.

Maybe I needed that, because I still just don't get half the stuff that's in there, like a running justification for the ludicrous amounts people spend on stuff that only has a value to a far flung few in society, and because, who ever needed a quiet space anyways to enjoy something, much better to still have someone yammering on in your ear

If you get half of it, that's quite amazing. I didn't get 95% of it.

Where is Ethan beanie? A huge extension and you couldn't put the greatest Modern art in history!

"Its new app", not "it's new app".
Basic grammar, yet even a journalistic publication gets it wrong (or should that be "get's it wrong"?).

Not bad at all, wired made money to make more content, which i like, they showed me something where i wanna go now and this gallery gonne make more money, everyone is happy, why is this bad?

It would be fine if it was a good product placement but for me it was just like watching a 3 min ad.

+SolarPolarMan At least it's for an art museum, not some damned cola company. Let's let this one slide.

Too bad this looks to be iOS only. Tired of the art folks, generally ignorant of technological trends, isolating themselves into the apple ecosystem because it's what they perceive artists do. And the museum administrations and curators falling into the same trap. The idea is quite nice, and I see it being particularly relevant to children experiencing a modern art gallery for the first time, but most parents aren't out buying $600 delicate, feel-good, machined metal pocket computers for their kids. For me, great art deals directly with notions of power, authority, and control, and the museum curators have ceded authority and the ability to expand to more people over to Apple - seemingly without consideration of consciousness. Standard Apple behaviour.

Great, one more way of keeping people with their earphones on and depending on their cellphones to experience the world. One more step towards zero human interaction, wondering around just gliding over the surface of everything.
