Not sure why everyone says the caseback is "gimmicky". That took a lot a creativity and engineering by the design team. It fit perfectly with the sentiment of Snoopy and what the watch celebrates. Omega dreamt it up and made it a reality. Nothing "gimmicky" about it. Sheer genius and playfulness. Rolex takes themselves to serious, and Omega lets the kid inside out every once in awhile.
Thanks for the video IDGUY. Was going to write a comment about how the casback felt gimm..... until I read northwest at nite's comment. I see his point, especially if you consider the "commemorative" nature" of this watch. it's perhaps not meant to be a tool watch, but to celebrate one instead? Nicely done no doubt, but it still feels to me as another Omega limited edition which actually isn't limited, too convoluted for me.
No matter what they do, people complain. Too limited... Not limited enough.... Too creative, not creative enough.... Too big... Too small.... If only they made it in this color... people are so annoying. At the end of the day, based on wait lists for this watch, it's obvious Omega got this one right.
I gotta say, out of all the Speedmasters ever made, this one probably draws me in the most. The caseback "gimmick" is indeed so cool! I love those little hidden features that make a watch not only nice to wear, but fun to play with. It gives it that little something extra that is a huge factor in a lot of the models I aim to have in my collection.
People take watches too seriously ;) We need more fun out of these thinks and the quirks of Snoopy is what makes it so much more entertaining. Fully agree with you Mainer. I'd love to add this watch too... let's not forget the new Master Chronometer Co-axial... Their movements are powerhouses that keep getting better and better...
Thank you for the video. 👍🏼 I like this 50th anniversary better than the one before for 3 reasons : 1st / The caliber is way more impressive than the 45th and the animation on the case back linked to the caliber is stunning ! (The caliber is what makes a real watch). Very special watch. 2nd / The quote on the 45th anniversary is not part of appolo 13 or NASA history It’ has been romanced only because of tom hanks movie. 3 / This one will be sold more than the 1970 of the 45th bday but I m sure it will be sell less than the 1st in 2003 (5442ex) but Omega was smart enough to say that it’s not limited edition to avoid investors to buy it only for resell. But it’s official omega said it will be limited production ;) which means the same. Futur will tell. This is a Master piece. Hope I got one ! Finges crossed.
Thanks for explaining the whole Snoopy-NASA-Omega thing. I’m starting to really appreciate the Speedmaster history and this video made me appreciate it even a little more. Perhaps one day there will be a Speedy in my collection 👌
A bit off-topic, but: The music in those Omega Snoopy commercials is so beautiful ... striking the perfect balance of quirky/cute/playful and eerie/sublime, again quite fitting to the watch and its themes
The "Failure is not an option" quote is attributed to Gene Kranz the NASA flight director for the Apollo 13 mission. But he didn't actually utter these words, but was a coined phrase from an interview with Flight Controller Jerry Bostwick by the script writers for the movie. Watching this whilst wearing the 45th Anniversary Snoopy Speedy. As for getting the 50th Anniversary Snoopy Speedy, the US allocation was sold out with pre-orders within 24 hours of launch. At least for now Cheers
Great video as always. FYI, Gene Kranz, the flight director in the white vest uttered the words, "failure is not an option" as they were trying to figure out how to create a filtering device so the astronauts would not suffocate from CO2. Oh, and I love the watch. I grew up fascinated by the space program. I remember listening to the lunar landing as we were heading to a friend's cottage. And then watching the first steps on the moon on a B&W rabbit ear TV barely able to make out the images. Thanks for this video. Oh, and, Happy Canadian Thanksgiving. Lots of turkey on Sunday......
Thanks for the info about Gene, Karl! They had to really grind to make a viable filter (the movie covered it really well) Have a superb weekend and Sunday, brother!
Such an engaging watch, and by not making this a limited edition Omega’s ensuring that customers have a good chance of getting one at retail rather than having to pay a ludicrous grey market premium. Super video too.
Great review as usual @IDGuy! This piece deserves some serious attention IMHO (and it will - unfortunately - sell for a huge premium on the grey in, say, 3 months). It’s everything but underwhelming to the trained eye. Love it.
Well hey, since they're not limited we might be surprised (I feel like they're doing this to deter the Grey dealers) - The Snoop is a great slice of fun and I totally agree with you! I hope you both have a wonderful weekend
Great video IDGuy, with all the right history background and thoughts! I personally love that watch and when Omega produces something with a twinkle in the eye.
Omega, when the dust settles, movement junkies and watch lovers come together to appreciate them ;) - It's a ton of fun and thank you Andreas! I'm so glad you enjoyed it, brother!
I have never really got into the Omega / Snoopy affiliation. Seeing your historical summary was very interesting and made me appreciate the partnership quite a bit more. The watches therefore have never drawn my attention either. Focusing on them, I like the version 2 the most but, then...... I see that animated caseback and I’m immediately sold by the gimmickry! When it comes to the front of the watch, I would rather have a CK2998 and pocket the change. However, I never knew about that caseback before. What a feature! Another great video here my friend. Entertaining and Educating as always. ✊
This was the best video on the history of these watches I've watched. Thanks for the information! The snoopy 2 2015 model is my grail watch! I don't know how I'm going to get it but maybe one day lol
Amazing piece/ it’s art to be honest... it’s the best looking chronograph I have seen in years (even top of the AP chronograph) ... will try to get this piece of art
I really think the "Art" aspect is carried through to the caseback especially. We could call it "high horology" in a sense by how well it was done... Omega, when the dust settles, watch lovers and movement junkies agree ;)
Great video with insightful questions asked. I personally really like this model. "Tastefully done" is the ideal choice of words here. Thanks as always for great content.
My pleasure as always, brother. The watch is a lot of fun and it's great to see some adventurous designs included too! Hope you're still loving your Exp 2 ;)
@@ID-Guy yes I do. Honeymoon doesnt seem to ever end with it. The playful orange is just the right dose of fun that I need to love a watch. In that regard, the exp2 and the recent snoopy have something in common: serious enough to not be regarded as a toy but with a bit tongue in cheek with a historic reference.
Omega has officially crossed over and made a massive splash. I love it and this has me more exited than the Rolex. I’m so glad is nothing limited but rather limited production with tightly controlled inventory...
And I can't wait to see feedback on the movement too. The brand always subtly makes new strides with their movements without even shouting about it. Really enjoy the overall design too and thanks for this Roger!
Gene Kranz, the mission control flight director for Apollo 13, is the one who said, “failure is not an option”. It was also the title of his memoir. It’s an interesting read, you might check it out.
Such a great video. Terrific research and context. Loved the b-roll and historic content. I wonder if the Ag925 actually just means 925 sterling silver.
Thank you for this and for clarifying 925. I should've woken up to the fact... have enough sterling silver around my house hahaha! Thanks for the comment, brother
Great video! I was looking forward to this one hahahaha! I agree with your thoughts on why this watch is so good - the fun back is a really special touch while still keeping it simple and classy in the front. It might be my favorite speedmaster, even though snoopy II and last year’s Apollo 11 watches give it a run for its money!
Great review IDG. I went thru an almost identical initial to current conclusion on this model. The keys to me is that it’s fun, cartoonish, unabashedly “Snoopy” and different. I liked your description of the 2015 model being serious yet playful. Whereas the 2015 seemed like a dress watch with creative doodling on the dial and a handsome artistic case back, the 50th anniversary is more sporty on the dial with an animated cartoon on the back! As always, the final tell will be when holding it in hand and viewing it on the wrist. This could easily be a cheesy watch if its execution were less than stellar (pun intended). But given Omega’s recent history I’m looking forward to seeing mine and I do expect to be impressed.
We could do a lot more unpacking of these pieces (kinda like any art) They're very different. More than anything, I really admire the complication and movement of this new model (so much so that I'd own it for that reason - with the added fun of wearing a Snoopy of course) - I just keep thinking, if there was a Patek, JLC or any High horology name on the dial, people wouldn't scoff at the playfulness ;) Thank you as always Meyer!
Gotta love with the adjustments made on the movement, so that when the chronograph function is activated, the movement on the backcase is doing a counter clockwise 👌
Salute and respect to Omega for not making this a limited edition for grey market dealers to inflate prices ! Anyone who has the means to buy at retail price can get it unlike Rolex steel sports where you have to pay a minimum of 2x retail price to get your hands on one, I am done with Rolex!
Hold on. It may be unlimited but I imagine it's going to be difficult to get one as production will be slow. And these watches are considered as investment watches just as much as Rolex (unfortunately).
I was able to purchase one through my AD’s VIP Sale. Only 200 in USA. It won’t be a limited edition but it is a limited production which means it will be hard to get it.
Yea I’m pretty much getting tired of Rolex too . Just purchased a Speedmaster at Omega boutique and what a lovely service and hospitality plus received some omega gifts etc , awesome experience for a change
Great video and this watch is a hit for me. Would have been nice to see command module +LEM snoopy graphic in 13 flight mode. Also would prefer not to see the command module hand (print on a clear disc?) but overall an impressive watch - tasteful, technical, respectful ..yet fun - tough to pull all that off well ..but they did it.
The Snoopy II is undoubtably cool. The III is brilliantly goofy and the case back looks like a George Melies animation. If it was limited edition I’d be down the AD straight away. Have to think on this though!
I think the Snoopy watches are cool and still proves that Omega is not going too serious on traditional designs. Snoopy is a very iconic cartoon character compared to many and GPHG also allowed MOOMIN, another iconic cartoon character, to enter the GPHG competition. I dont see why Snoopy shouldn't while Moon enters the GPHG
I am subscribed and enjoy your videos very much, Over the last few weeks, I have noted that the sound (your voice) is now rather muffled and makes it difficult to follow sometimes. Previously, the sound was excellent. Microphone problems?
Hi John! A few months back I adjusted the decibels of the bass by a few notches (one of the issues with lav microphones is they can be quite weak) - Maybe it's just my ears, but the extra bass gives it a bit more roundness through headphones and larger speakers while cutting out some of the room's reverb (have a lot of echo in the house I'm staying in) One of these days I will be finding a better mic to clean it up even more. But thank you for this, you're the first to mention that the sound is muffled
It's not gimmicky as it works off a complication of the watch and the 14 second Snoopy module is ingenious. In years to come this watch will be extremely highly sought after
Taking a wild guess, I'd imagine if anything, the prices for these would be very, very stable. They definitely will not depreciate greatly with all the features and quirks this model has. I'd compare it to the Ceramic CK2998's in a way, they have a similar pull ;) Thank you for the comment and question Ami!
@@TH-camAIbot spending $10k would be nice to know if you want to get out of it you can at least get your money back should you need to in the future. It's called buying smart.
Great video, thank you! I suppose its difficult to say since we don't know the production number and how long it will be in production. But can you guess how it's value would hold up? This would be a HUGE investment for me and not a decision taken lightly, so I'm trying to figure out if it's likely to hold its value or maybe even appreciate? Thank you!
The fun aspect and new movement makes me want to add it too... The idea of a blue panda model in my collection does make me think ;) Thanks as always for this Craig!
Look, I really like Omega watches. I currently own three. If Omega wants to produce another gimmicky overpriced time piece than so be it. Omega owners love to complain about Rolex as being an overpriced (on the secondary market) hard to get watch. Omega’s movements, construction and design are every bit as good as Rolex, but they absolutely kill their buzz by overproducing too many different varieties of timepieces. Rolex makes news with just minor changes to established watches because their line is very limited and time tested. You would think that adding color faces to the Rolex entry level model wouldn’t be a big deal, but it is. Omega, on the other hand keeps spitting out watches calling certain models “limited edition” watches to build the hype and then produces literally thousands. I guess if you are a big Snoopy fan this watch is appealing. I just think it is emblematic of the problems Omega creates for itself.
I disagree, Omega produces great watches for normal people to wear. Like you say, quality wise it's every bit as good as Rolex, but an every day Joe gets to enjoy it without breaking the bank. Some are already criticizing Omega for not making this a limited edition, but I applaud them. Instead of repeating the previous formula and make something that goes up in value on the second hand market, they made it not limited so more people can have access to this great innovative watch.
The black and white snoopy is stunning, the only Omega MotM that makes me want it. Alas, it is now in excess of $40K. The blue one doesn't do anything for me.
Interesting call out. I hear you can only get one of these if you’re prepared to put a deposit down at a boutique even though you may not get the watch til next spring or later. Are the same people that moan like hell abt Rolex practices and hype generation, really now lording it over “fanboys” because Omega are doing the exact same thing? I like the watch. I think it’s a good one. Getting sick of all the tribalism though. Fook me, liking a watch doesn’t need to be like supporting your favourite sports ball team... PS I’m pretty sure Rolex’s Dad is bigger than Omega’s Dad!
I love Omega. "The Snoopy 2" is amazing. This one however to me lacks something special and for 10K as much as I would like to have one I'm going to pass on this one.. It just doesn't pull me in.
I've tried one on before! Most definitely one of the best modern Speedmasters out there! (kinda enjoying the fact that this isn't limited, I think Omega is trying the quell the grey market in a way with these) - Thanks for the comment Lee
IDGuy I think Omega is trying to sell watches during financially very dodgy times and a run of 2000 wasn’t enough. I’m still glad they are not limiting this one but I think it’s to do with balance sheets.
@@ID-Guy From what I have been told, very limited run. The original allotment (which sold out) was for boutiques only. Those were for the people who were lucky enough to get their deposit in. The waitlist then started for 1st quarter 2021 delivery. There is a limited amount on those lists and then its shut down. Those watches will go to AD's. Heard it was a 9 - 12 month production run. This came from someone at Omega, but I have no idea how factual it is. Have to disagree with you mate. I think this is the best one made. But being an Engineer and Artist, I am a bit biased. 🤣🤣
The case back rotating earth and snippy space shuttle is brilliant, but it also makes the dial anticlimax. All the fun should be show case on the front, the animation effort seems wasted.
And now I've just read that this line was actually used in the script for the movie and wasn't said in real life? The earth is flat? I don't know what to believe anymore ;)
@@ID-Guy Dramatic Liberty...I think Failure is not an Option is mostly the spirit of NASA and the human being’s ability to overcome very challenging concepts. I think that’s what makes all the Snoopys iconic. Sure it’s another special edition, but it was a special occasion.
Gene Krantz never said 'failure is not an option' one of the screenwriters did. He liked the phrase so much he titled his extremely self-praising biography with it.
The second Silver Snoopy Apollo 13 was limited to 1970 pieces and goes for that collector price. To my information you can go deposit the funds for this one and the delivery time is around 12 weeks.
All the looooosers wanted to make insane money with an other limited edition snoopy. When that did not happen panties went into a twist and the new watch was just not, "on the same level." Daytona is more awesome because you have to pay money and wait years for it, this snoopy is less cool because Omega does not play that game. When other watch makers put animations on their models then its watch making art but god forbid Omega put a snoopy on the caseback then its just gimmicky. Secretly everybody wanted a flipper.
@ultimaetsolder so you prefer no variations? You would rather all watches look the same? Like Rolex. Or do you say it's too many? What is an acceptable number of variations? And why is your number acceptable? Don't understand why everyone keeps saying they're too many variations. If you don't like the watch don't buy the watch. A company should do exactly what they want and if they want to introduce a variety of watches they are so entitled.

If only it comes in 40-41mm size...great video, IDGuy. Cheers👍
Must admit, the 42mm size is quite large with these professional pieces. But HEY! We still have the CK2998's open to us ;)
I am subscribed and enjoy your videos very much,
Over the last few weeks, I have noted that the sound (your voice) is now rather muffled and makes it difficult to follow sometimes.
Not a limited edition but it is extremely hard to get. Late November a Boutique, not an AD got 2 for the year - and that was a generous allocation.
Great clip, thanks!
It's not gimmicky as it works off a complication of the watch and the 14 second Snoopy module is ingenious. In years to come this watch will be extremely highly sought after
Love the Snoopy 50th! Great Vid as always! What affect do you think the 'Not limited' will have on the watches value long term?
Taking a wild guess, I'd imagine if anything, the prices for these would be very, very stable. They definitely will not depreciate greatly with all the features and quirks this model has. I'd compare it to the Ceramic CK2998's in a way, they have a similar pull ;) Thank you for the comment and question Ami!
Who cares if it doesn’t hold value. If that’s all you care about then your buying a watch for the wrong reasons
@@TH-camAIbot spending $10k would be nice to know if you want to get out of it you can at least get your money back should you need to in the future. It's called buying smart.
I need one of these!!
Thank you!
What an awesome video
A black dial will be amazing.
Snoopy II is my favorite. Snoopy III isn't limited, so 9k is tough pill.
The Second Gen is pretty special, regardless of price. It may be harder to read, a bit obscure, but that's what sets it apart. Thanks for this Jaime!
IDGuy wouldn’t the silver dial justify the increase in the price? Great video ID Guy!
I’d like the 45th and the 50th... the case back is awesome on the 50th. Some day...
Don't care what anyone says, I'm in love with that watch
Apollo 13 also what made NASA improved significantly.
They decided to use metric system only after that.
its brill i love it.... if i had the cash i would buy one cheers
The fun aspect and new movement makes me want to add it too... The idea of a blue panda model in my collection does make me think ;) Thanks as always for this Craig!
Great video 👌
Amazing video! Just one glitch it is 3861 not 3681 ;)
very interesting
As cute as the real Snoopy!
I think it’s great
It really is a charming watch. We need more playful pieces like these, the ones that make you grin ;)

Excellent WatchAdvisor video that dropped today. Hands-On and specifics about its background
This speedy will give the Daytona a run for it’s money
Daytona is a homage of Zenith el primero
@@tomkhong9828 That is not correct.
sicc watch frfr all gens
Great review. I also made a full review on the latest Snoopy on my youtube channel, but this one is also good. Just in a different perspective way
For Omega die-hards I would say. May I wish a non Snoopy (ie same colors, but solid case back) with a €1500 lighter price tag ?
Im DIGGIN IT n I WANT!!!
❤
Hey Rolex fan boys..a Snoopy has to be earned!
That's mean and nasty, Jose! ;)
TheRunningManZ Well said. I own both Omega and Rolex. I have no animosity towards either but some people take it to extremes.
Love the dial, not so keen on the back, less keen on the price.
I love Omega. "The Snoopy 2" is amazing. This one however to me lacks something special and for 10K as much as I would like to have one I'm going to pass on this one.. It just doesn't pull me in.
same here. not sure what makes it 10k?
Get the Omega TinTin instead, amazing story and very very limited production !!
I've tried one on before! Most definitely one of the best modern Speedmasters out there! (kinda enjoying the fact that this isn't limited, I think Omega is trying the quell the grey market in a way with these) - Thanks for the comment Lee
Great piece, not sure the story comes close to the Snoopy pieces though. 2000 pieces is certainly low ish volume.
IDGuy I think Omega is trying to sell watches during financially very dodgy times and a run of 2000 wasn’t enough.
I’m still glad they are not limiting this one but I think it’s to do with balance sheets.
Naahhhh. No Tintin over Snoopy
And now we have a black panther watch from audemars piguet what a wonderful time to be alive ... 😐😐😐
thx for the video, any thoughts of its 42mm size? too big? my biggest concern, it almost looks like a gigantic panerai.
It wears about the same as a 40mm Rolex.
Who was giving the Silver Snoopy Award? Was it Snoopy maker Charles M. Schulz?
The case back rotating earth and snippy space shuttle is brilliant, but it also makes the dial anticlimax. All the fun should be show case on the front, the animation effort seems wasted.
“Failure is not an option” is from Gene Kranz...mission director...(the guy with all the vests)
I do like this better than the Snoopy 2 with it's two made-up marketing slogans on the dial.
My AD doesn't believe he can get one in, and I'm not driving 6 hours to a boutique to beg either.
Gene Krantz never said 'failure is not an option' one of the screenwriters did. He liked the phrase so much he titled his extremely self-praising biography with it.
its not limited edition but there is a limited production. the prices are already being sold for this watch at 40k. goodluck getting one.
Unbelievable what the Snoopy 2 trades for second hand. For my money, you'd have to be an idiot to buy the 2 over the 3 for a fraction of the price.
If you've got a hard-on for a Snoopy watch, you can pick up a Snoopy-TImex for about $100. You're welcome.
SNOOPY.3
Snoopy.....lol and why not ice princess ridiculous......
what makes this watch 10k? at least with a Rolex Sub you'll get 904L steel, white gold markers, and platinum inlays . This, well, you don't.
Tired of the thousands of variants... Really boring and overdone.
A company should do exactly what they want and if they want to introduce a variety of watches they are so entitled.
...no
lol sorry that's all I have. At retail yes, otherwise NO!
Of course! The prices the Gen 2 is going for is frankly ridiculous... I bet for the 55th Anni. they'll be bringing it out in green ;)
