Common sense. Information on the Biodata page is the same as what you have on the chip. Either way, a border officer still has to verify your identity before the introduction of the chip. Your personal info is being protected by ensuring the info on the chip is limited to what is printed on your passport.

Many countries still stamp your passport. In addition if you apply for a Visa, that visa may occupy a page (or more) of your passport. Again, depends on the country. Some countries do everything electronically so no stamp nor physical visa sticker on one of your passports but that's not true for every country (the US and EU come to mind).
Just got my passport, Canada did a tremendous job on the design of the pages.

Got my Canadian passport last year and travelled to US, and India with it. EU and Japan next.
