Wicked tune! However, judging from the comments below, it appears that I'm in the minority because I prefer this version to the original version from Out Absentia. He's really upgraded the guitar sound in this version. Sounds fantastic!
Actually this is the wet ribbon/collapse light into earth extended taken from out absentia ep. It´s really amazing Mr Wilson´s didn´t forget this song and did a remixing! Amazing job btw
In early December 2011 Wilson announced on his Facebook-page: “Cut Ribbon is now available on my Soundcloud page. This song was written for a planned metal style collaboration with Mikael Åkerfeldt in 2001, but this is a more recent version, made during the Grace For Drowning album sessions. Over the last 10 years it’s been the orphan song, destined to never fit in with anything else I was doing. Previously only available on the SW iPhone app, now here it is for you to download / listen to in full resolution (well CD resolution anyway, 44.1K 16 bit). Enjoy!”
@MrDoggerDog I'm pretty sure this tune will be on the upcoming Storm Corrosion collaboration between Steven and Mikael which is just up for pre-order like an hour ago! Go buy! :D
@steliospitsillides Not actually what I was implying. I was moreso talking about the overall style and lyrical content of the song. If I were talking about Steven Wilson singing on it, then in that case all of the Blackfield songs would fit in with Porcupine Tree... which doesn't.
@MrDoggerDog Well, you're very right! And I get your point. The material contents of many releases are very ridiculous and seem like a desperate attempt at getting people to actually bother to buy the damn thing, i.e a poster and a coffee mug.
@MrDoggerDog I am sorry for trying to help you. I bought the entire thing with vinyl because whatever the fuck they're selling I'll buy because A: I support the band and B: I really do appreciate getting this on all formats. I would buy it if a got the album on a potato.
@SekundesC There is no such thing as "Wet Ribbon" and there was never an official In Absentia outtakes album. The song was always "Cut Ribbon" and the demo of it has been around for awhile.

There are times when Steven Wilson is sick and just explodes. This is one of them.

The drums are cooler in Wet Ribbon. Most of it is abit better in the original. Except maybe the guitar tone.
What an amazingly captivating piece of music. Keep coming back to it.
Yeah, if Storm Corrosion were to be made around early 2000 it would've sounded something like this. Weird how tastes can change!
I am just back from a Opeth concert..It was Insane!! \m/
Love you Steve Wilson! Keep bringin it bro !
Actually this is the wet ribbon/collapse light into earth extended taken from out absentia ep. It´s really amazing Mr Wilson´s didn´t forget this song and did a remixing! Amazing job btw
I loved this song! wow!
Bellissimo pezzo! Mikael & Opeth...tanta roba 👍🏻
This song was originally called Wet Ribbon on the Out Absentia bootleg album.
Some self references in the lyrics here, the one that immediately popped out to me was the line "Collapse the into Earth" around 2:49
It's available as a free download on Steven Wilson's Soundcloud.

there's a SW iPhone app???
This is a great tune!
We need them to make an album again
Well, that was awesome.

The minority of the sighted ! Congrats!

Love it

The demo version from Out Absentia is quite better in my opinion.

I could be drunk but wasn't the heavy riff around 5:00 used in a new SW song?
fooldeth You are drunk
you're thinking of liminol though
Home Invasion
Yeah the intro
Fuck YeaH
anyone got tabs for this? or tuning?
This isn't new. The name of this song is Wet Ribbon and is on the In Absentia out takes. This sounds way watered down than what I first heard.

Sad that it didn't appear on Storm Corrosion! I have no idea how to get it. Wouldn't suit the album anyway I guess :)
i believe this guy must be soooo hardcooooooore.
Does anyone know if he recorded this with his current touring band?

Should've been a PT track
sounds like Pt
Kerry Gardner it was written by Wilson during 2001 era and rerecorded 10 years later.
Riff sounds like flies in the Vaseline kinda
Yeah. I know.
the gaps??????? what purpose???????
The demo is better.
Absolutely, the demo is better. Maybe S will remaster it someday?
Funny, I thought you would have picked out Black Veil Brides... guess you must of missed them. xD
Do caralho velho!
Needs double bass in some of those riff sections. Missed opportunity.
I want freaking metAl from steve.....arrrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh...........
Broner!
and bullet is't ha ha ha ha ha ha
@rosskolnikov Fine then. The unofficial thing still sounds better than this.
"never to fit in with anything else I was doing"? Sounds like it could easily fit in with the more metal side of Porcupine Tree.
Judge not or you robe yourself from evolution !
on a potato.
New metal??? estas bromeando verdad.
