Excellent vlog. Spontaneous, uninhibited and lively ! Mr. Shahbaz's face is so expressive - it says it all - when he's enjoying the food and when he's not. And, I hope I've understood right, since this was not a promotional or invited vlog - those forced obligatory expressions and gestures of appreciation were not there - whatever there was - was natural. That Mr. Shabaz was a bit apprehensive and uneasy at the start of vlog while trying out the Chicken Mix Grill (probably doubting the presence of pork), that initially finding it a bit flat but slowly warming up to the taste, under the assurance and mild prodding of Mr. Arunabha, and enjoying the fare that followed, whole heartedly, - the gastronomic journey of the duo was a visual treat. Special mention - it was a delight to watch Mr. Shahbaz deciding upon ditching his knife and going for the Fish Liver Gin with his bare hands, (and finding it oily in the course) - with the simplicity of a child (I hope Mr. Shahbaz doesnt mind) who finds the cutlery unnecessarily bothersome while attacking his favourite dish. Just too good to watch. 😊 I've seen this place covered by other vloggers - Gypsy Bong and Good Food Bro, and enjoyed both the presentations, each different from the other and both different from today's presentation. It is simply amazing to observe how You guys manage to package and present the same thing differently to the same (more or less) audience base, and each vlogger unique and entertaining in his own sweet way ... Another special mention - the presence of Mr. Arunabha. It added maturity, brought in freshness and simply lifted the overall weight (well, in more ways than one 😊) and level of the vlog quite a few notches above Foodzpah's usual level, which as it is, is quite high, by any standard. Congratulations. Keep it up.

New Cathay used to be our go-to spot in childhood after every shopping trip to New Market. I always admired its ambience and lofty high ceilings. My father knew the waiters and managers by name. One of the managers was even a well-known poet from Howrah. My father would order his drink while I, being underage, could only watch. Photikchand (as I called Arunabha) and I are nearly the same age, he’s a year older. We spent time together at family gatherings and shared occasions, often getting up to mischief. From a young age, we would secretly sneak beer or drinks from the store. Time has flown, and our lives have taken separate paths. Watching this video brought back a flood of childhood memories, both of New Cathay and of Photikchand.
My best episode of foodzpah. A true glimpse of my younger days. New day pubs never ever match up to these standards. Please add similar sessions on Broadway chung wah green palace etc. Really looking forward for all those
Really enjoyed this concept. Its been really long people looked down upon after- work drinking but its such a common concept in the west. People enjoying a couple of drinks after a hard days of work needs to be normalised and not looked down upon. Thanks for encouraging that concept and not attaching more stigma to it.

They used to do an amazing - and I ,mean really amazing - lamb chops at one time. I have taken friends there to try it and they all agreed it was the best lamb ( actually mutton) chops they had . But the dishes you showed looked fantastic too. I must try them soon. thanks guys! Look forward to seeing more like this!

New Cathay Bar and restaurant, I have seen many a time while walking down the Grand arcade but never went inside. I imagined it would be dingy, full of people talking loudly kind of a bar( may be heavily smoky when smoking was permitted). Never really imagined it being so decent and commodious inside! It's huge. Food looked different and tasty especially in their unique ' livery'😂( pun intended). Interesting joint.
The first and the last time I dined at New Cathay was on 8 November 2016. And as we were in the midst of our dinner, there came that announcement which stunned the nation --- of demonetisation !!!!! And I said to myself... never again at Cathay !! 😃 ( Wasnt the involvement of the restaurant in any way of course ) 😊😃 However after watching the Fish Liver Gin, Liver on Toast and Mutton Potato Chop ( Calcutta Club makes something similar --- absolutely outstanding) , I may have to change my decision and go back to have these items which looked really good. 👍👍
Is this standard in Kolkata? Everywhere I order gin snd tonic, they give me gin, tonic water and ice separately and no lemon etc unless asked for. Make it, put it in a wide glass and put it before me. Not sure what is happening

I think new cathay is not at all a good place to hang out, price is a bit high compared to the arrangements. It's not coz m a non drinker but the staff behaviour is not upto the mark. Office para bar for me best suits manthan songhai at Waterloo street. It's my go to place comparative cheap, food quality is good, ambience is also cool. Pls shahbaaz da ekbar jeo, ami tomake host korbo!

Kasturi kebab is also one of their signature dish. Also you will find one of the best egg fried rice in town.
They mentioned some Kakori kebab, but we weren’t in the mood for kebabs that day, so we stuck with continental.

They go well with meat and fish, especially if you are ordering continental items...they were boiled and tossed with butter.
