Am I the only one who’s bothered by the fact that the family never mentioned to Ed and Lorraine that Bathsheba literally killed their dog a day after they moved in? Did they just simply not connect her weird behavior or her death to the haunting? Sadie was never mentioned after she died except right after when April said she missed her, other than that not a single mention of her which is strange.
During the interview the mom says "I guess it started with the clocks [all stopping at 3:07]" which happened BEFORE Sadie died. The recording of the interview ends up being corrupted when Ed goes back to listen to it. She almost definitely told Ed and Lorraine about Sadie during the interview but we cannot hear it.

You missed a Sin. When they come to investigate for the first time, he says: ''well it hasn't done anything violent yet so that's good'' I guess killing the dog and smacking the mothers head with the basement door and pushing her down the stairs wasn't violent enough.
It drives me crazy that no one talks about how the beach picture is totally perfect quality and technicolor in '71
I'm late responding but this has always bothered me! This movie did a great job of looking true to the time period but the beach picture was ridiculous!

It's funny how Lorraine always not only loses her powers but drops to a level of intuition far below average when the script requires it. Sees apparition in mother's window, rushes into house, hears noise and screaming from mother's room, all this knowing that the demon's plan is to possess someone, and then thinks nothing of it when possessed mother comes out of room giving no explanation for the noise and just saying everything's fine.
While The Conjuring and The Exorcist are probably the best movies in this demonic genre of horror, they are still plagued with so much dumb shit that it makes it hard to enjoy such movies and explains why any movie within this taste scores low.

You know, people down here in the comments, Latin may still be taught but that doesn't make it not a dead language. A dead language is one that isn't spoken by any living group or culture as their first language. Yes, it still exists and people can learn it, but we don't know exactly how it is supposed to sound because there's no one on earth that knows how the Romans pronounced words.
True but we do have a VERY good idea of what it did sound like. Better than literally any other dead language. Thank the Romans for writing everything down and even telling us how latin was spoken.
Actually, Latin has been commonly spoken at the Vatican through it's entire existence. Catholics are very good at keeping records and tradition.

Even not knowing how the Romans pronounced words, it's still fine to say that someone speaks the best Latin you've ever heard. I know enough to figure out inscriptions on monuments and seals and the like, but I wouldn't be able to put words together to form my own sentences. If you have someone speaking smoothly and confidently in entire paragraphs using correct grammar and not scattering any ...um...uh... hesitations while trying to remember vocabulary words then I'd say yes, their Latin is better than others and possibly the best you've ever heard.
I remember watching this movie and when the part where the spirit asks if the mom wants to play hide and clap, someone in the back of the theater just yells 'aw hell nah!''. Everyone immediately starts laughing at that until a split second later when when we all collectively scream when the spirit claps.

I always wonder why, in movies such as this and those centered around aliens/the devil/demons/ect, the youngest (or one of the younger) child is always the victim, or is the one that the evil source "wants". Maybe. But the Warren's lied about a real life woman named Bathsheba. Demonized her. And that resulted in her grave being vandalized many times. That alone makes this movie deserve a hundred sins.
Do even a few minutes of research and you will see she was not the witch they tried to frame her as. But their accounts, and this movie made a bunch of idiots declare her evil. And insult and deface her grave.

One sin that you guys clearly forgot was the fact that they didn't know the house had a basement where they furnace was. How would they have ever bought a house with no furnace if they thought one did exist in the house. It was the 70's so they clearly didn't just purchase it in an online auction. The dad also mentioned how he had renovations done to the house before they moved in so how could he have not known there wasn't a much needed furnace in the house not knowing there was one in the hidden basement? Did he not care about keeping his family warm in that two story house?

the answer is easy to think of: there is another "basement" that house the furnace and other needed stuffs, and the haunted part is only a small part of that level - that's why the father didn't find it until the girl broke the wall by accident

Latin was taught in schools in the 60's and before. This movie is set in 1971. Also, latin is used in exorcisms and is, or was, common in the catholic church and demonology. Ed and Lorrain warren were Catholics and ed was a demonologist.

Hi I know I'm late here but not ghost's The Evil Spirit/demon in this case Bathsheba was originally haunting the land/house due to her ritualistic death/suicide & Curse wanted the land to be her's & only her's forever even after death.Now if the family on the movie & real life would've moved when thing's weren't too crazy/serious or right away maybe that would've been possible but they waited too long to leave so the entire time the evil entity has been terrorizing & feeding off of them by the time they suggested/thought about leaving it's too late because by now it attached it'self to that family like Lorraine said on the movie. Also it depends on the entities and their agenda if they have 1.
It should first be pointed out that this movie, contrary to claims, is mostly fictional. Yes, Ed and Lorraine Warren did investigate "supernatural events" that supposedly took place in the house. Yes, the Perron family was real. However, none of the claimed events actually happened. The first reports of any "supernatural" or "demonic" events occurred in the 1970's while the Perron family were living there. There were no reported events prior to the Perron family. The house was sold in June 2019, and after hearing about the history, the house's previous owner actually investigated the claims only to find they were entirely lies. That said. Whether or not a ghost or demon follows someone from 1 location to another is a topic of disagreement between "paranormal investigators" as well as among members of the various religions. There is no proof that either belief is right or wrong. Ed Warren declared himself a "demonology expert", a claim that no member of even the Catholic or Christian church makes about themselves. Fact is, we know nothing about "demons" or "ghosts". We can only assume the type of behavior they would exhibit.
You missed many continuity errors that are so blatantly obvious, one being the cell phone in Mrs. Perron's back pocket, when Cindy is retrieved from her hiding spot after sleep walking. The Mustang parked at the motel is a 74' model, and this was supposed to be 71 right? The RJ-11 phone jacks being used throughout the house were not introduced by phone companies until a 1976 FCC order ending the use of protective couplers provided exclusively by the telephone company. My theory on why no one else heard the paintings fall is because Bathseba (the deamon) was controling only what Carolyn could hear. In other words the demon made sure the other kids were asleep and made them not wake up.
