I’m the saver, my husband is the spender. We are always on the same side, we both want what’s best for our family even if we have different ideas on how to achieve what’s best. OMG - it took me 10 years to get my husband to get on board. We are literally in escrow right now for Beach Club. Closing in May - finally!! We watched ALL your videos on DVC. Just like you....I'm the Disnerd, my husband is not. Finally he realized my interest in Disney was not withering away and he saw how happy it would make me. I'm so freaking happy.
I love this! As you know, DVC here since 2000. We’ve been taking our boys since they were babies. 19 and 17 now and we ask them about coming to Disney with us (since they have jobs etc.) and they’re like YES! They love our Disney trips and we love going with them! ❤️❤️
Yes we keep waiting for them to tell us no and we of course are always very understanding of their adult lives but they always say yes! Party probably because we pay . . . .😂❤️

My husband and I were miles apart on owning DVC. So much of what you covered is exactly how our conversations were going and it did not feel good and who wants that for something that is supposed to be fun?? The decision wasn't fast or easy, but we are BOTH happy now and we are currently shopping for a resale contract. I've been watching your DVC playlist like its my job. So much valuable information! In the mean time, I live in Celebration, and I don't plan to move anytime soon. Being, more or less, right here on property, has allowed me to explore and continue to explore Walt Disney World. It's A LOT more than just the four theme parks and two water parks. I have been here well over a year, and I STILL haven't seen everything. Anyhow... Take care! I love your videos!

The twins look so much like you, Jen! When I finally decided that DVC was right for us (after a bit of research which is how I found your channel). I talked to my husband and shared your videos. After that he was convinced to at least schedule a conversation with the dvc rep. We bought our first contract two weeks later. So you were a big part in our complicated journey to ultimately purchase dvc. (I had looked into it many times since 2001 in case you didn’t remember).
You hit the nail on the head with this video! Excellent advice for all couples, and it really hit a note in me. I also have a reluctant Disney husband who has now grown to like the parks a lot in his own way, but getting him on board to purchase DVC was a struggle and I could have used your advice back then. Also, I teared up at your schmaltzy story at the end about your 21 year old son…we have teens here too and some of our BEST memories were on our Disney vacations. I wouldn't trade those moments for all the money in the world
I found your channel a few years ago doing research for DVC. At that time we did put an offer in on BLT resale but it was taken in ROFR. Looking back it wasn't the right time or right use year for us. My husband was happy we didn't get it do to the money. Fast forward to the great unpleasantness and suddenly we weren't going on our dream vacation (2 Contemporary Theme Park View rooms!). So we had that extra money. In 2019 we did a short stay at the Contemporary for our daughter's 3rd birthday to just visit Magic Kingdom and do monorail resort loop activities. My husband from then on only wanted to stay at the Contemporary. I called and got a bounce back offer to apply to our December trip that same year. Being the accountant and financial analyst that I am, I put together a projection spreadsheet and told him paying all that money every year to stay in the Garden Wing would only cost more over time and I thought it was too much. He saw the numbers and knows we can sell if needed. He only asked that we not buy too many points incase we don't want to go one year and can even bank to go to Aulani. We looked at the DVC properties and almost had Animal Kingdom Lodge but it just wasn't the location we wanted. We really wanted BLT. The studio is smaller but for the 3 of us it's fine and we can alternate between that and a 1 bedroom or do 2 trips a year in a studio. My daughter loves to watch room tours of BLT and it's adorable. I can't wait for our welcome home trip this December. I know this comment was long, so thanks for reading!

Jen, what a superb video! We had some conflict over our recent decision to buy but I realised I was holding on to concerns that we had when we first researched it 12 years ago... and those concerns are not longer an issue. Thank goodness I listened because I haven't felt this excited in years! (ps. still got that photo on my fridge!) xx
Great advice, Jen. Wish we knew about TH-cam when we bought in. You are the FIRST DVC TH-camr we found. We have recommended you to several people, who have been interested in DVC. We bought in 2018, yes, I know we were late to the TH-cam world.

We were walking around Riviera & saying how much we liked it & talking about how far we have come financially in the past 6 years since we first sat thru the spiel on our honeymoon. And he talked about how we are going to be even further down the road in a few more years & maybe then this big investment will be able to happen in the future. This video helps solidify that. Jen you had me tearing up at 9:30 in the morning! You gave me hope that my nephews will still have a love for Disney when they are older. At 18 months and 4 years old Mickey is their life and I hope they too at 21 will still feel a love for Disney. I've been trying to convivence my sister for us to buy DVC. We've taken my nephew to WDW 3 times and he's only 4 - I can see how this is going to keep going.

This is totally us. Researching, researching, researching... now that we're CLOSE to no mortgage, we may finally make the jump in the next year or two! Hubby is the same.... retirement, retirement, retirement ;) But we go to Disney every other year and RENT DVC, haha. If we werent Canadian and paying that dollar difference, we probably would have purchased years ago.

So much good advice in this video! I really pushed for family vacations so we had started doing that and my husband realized right away I was right 😉 that getting away from home and the responsibilities and spending time together and building memories is so important and worth every penny. We started looking into DVC last year and compared the cost over the years of the contract (both the buy in amount and annual dues) vs how much we spend for a one bedroom at the AoA resort. We have gone with my mom so we needed more space than a standard hotel room. And we actually would come out a bit better plus get a bigger, nicer room, laundry, and a full kitchen. It really ended up making a lot of sense for us though we agree that that doesn’t mean it’s the right decision for others.
Sounds like you definitely made the right call!! And sometimes Scott accuses me of only wanting DVC because of the washer and dryer and I'm like dear, we have 3 sons. So . . quite possibly! LOL
@@JenLefforge the laundry is amazing! We end up doing laundry at AoA and it’s fine but not at all convenient! I really just can’t pack all the clothes we each need for a family of four for 8 to 9 days who travels by plane and not lose my mind.
My husband and I are in the research phase and he's very reluctant too. We have a trip planned for June 2022 and are staying at Art of Animation for the second time. With 4 kids I think we're going to outgrow the family suites in the next couple years when we have teenagers. Hopefully he'll come around!
That was really so helpful! My only question is, you said he liked it but didn't love it, so that was a big concession to use that vacation $$ Disney style over other options for places to go I guess right? Like he wasn't passionate about lake houses necessarily or mountain areas/ski resorts....?
We also take loads of other vacations. We both have lots of vacation time and Disney is just one of the options! I realize that's unusual but he knew it wasn't the ONLY vacation we'd ever take.

I have 2 timeshares. Unfortunately neither is Disney. But both have Resort property within minutes of the gates. It has certainly spoiled me to staying in a hotel room. I like to be able to cook simple meals & we enJOY spreading out in a nice big unit.

I really enjoy the way that you edit your videos and your content. But even after watching several of your videos about DVC, I still don't feel like I have a good handle on how it saves anyone money (except maybe in the very long run). Maybe it's because there are so many "moving parts", but I'll keep watching and trying to learn. :) Thanks for the video(s).
Bottom line is if you add up what we pay in initially plus the annual dues we pay, we will pay overall about 50% less for the room part of our vacation over paying cash for those same trips. And absolutely OVER THE LONG RUN. In the short term, it saves you absolutely nothing!
So I have been researching and warming up to the idea. I keep trying to explain the concept to my Hubby... My Husband: ‘maybe we won’t want to go some years, maybe we will get sick of Disney’. Also my Husband: ‘streaming live park visits on TH-cam while making Mickey waffles with Disney ride soundtracks playing on our google home speaker’ 😂
Honestly, Christine, for us we could stay at OKW for a week even if we didn't "Disney" - just eating, pool, tennis, etc., so that was what cinched it for us!

My uncle bought DVC at the very beginning-he always says it’s the best decision he’s ever made. I think one time we all went and park tickets were included for all 10 of us? My husband was not interested, but I managed to get him to the tour at Aulani (for the $150 gift card). After the video he said, “Where’s their cult jumpsuit? I’m ready to put it on. I’m thinking we need 350 points?” This was last February and as soon as we came home, COVID hit and he wanted to wait. Now with Magical Express going away, my husband is worried there are more and more things they’re taking away and hopped back on the fence🥺
Jen, I remember a few years ago your son went to Shanghai Disney and brought you back some pins, another went to wdw and brought you back your dooney sketch backpack, another went with you in 2019 to Disneyland California... so your sons visit Disney parks “regularly” without it being a family trip? Do they often go with friends or is it reserved from them as a “family” destination with a few exceptions?
One thing that changed my husband's mind was saying buying dvc was an investment in our retirement because I wasn't going to stop wanting to go to Disney and I'd also want to have family reunion vacations with our sons' families after we retire and this is how we could do it .
100% Kathy. When Scott saw that we could stay in an ocean view studio in Aulani for a week if we skipped the 2 bedroom at WDW and left the kids at home he was SOLD.😂
I mentioned this video to my husband and he went and watched it himself. He said you made great points :). I've tried Googling this question but haven't had luck finding an answer so maybe you or someone else here can help. If the week I want to stay overlaps into two different seasons which weekly rate do they go with? The one you check in during or the one you check out during?
Great question, Amy! It depends on the actual nights. So if the first part of my trip is in low season for OKW and I'm in a studio it might be 10 points for the first three nights but then jump up to 12 points for the rest of the week. I hope that helps! And I'm 90% sure I'm right on that but you could always call DVC to verify!
Really enjoyed this vlog even though I’m divorced I can relate to it. I’ve been watching and reading comments on DVC since you started your channel. I want Disneyland tower but may buy resale before that opens. Being in California I wonder what benefits you’d get buying the tower direct.

We have gone with my mom so we needed more space than a standard hotel room. And we actually would come out a bit better plus get a bigger, nicer room, laundry, and a full kitchen. It really ended up making a lot of sense for us though we agree that that doesn’t mean it’s the right decision for others.
Sounds like you definitely made the right call!! And sometimes Scott accuses me of only wanting DVC because of the washer and dryer and I'm like dear, we have 3 sons. So . . quite possibly! LOL
@@JenLefforge the laundry is amazing! We end up doing laundry at AoA and it’s fine but not at all convenient! I really just can’t pack all the clothes we each need for a family of four for 8 to 9 days who travels by plane and not lose my mind.
My husband and I are in the research phase and he's very reluctant too. We have a trip planned for June 2022 and are staying at Art of Animation for the second time. With 4 kids I think we're going to outgrow the family suites in the next couple years when we have teenagers. Hopefully he'll come around!
Just don't be afraid to run the math! a lot of times the hard numbers are what really shows if it's the right call for your family.
That was really so helpful! My only question is, you said he liked it but didn't love it, so that was a big concession to use that vacation $$ Disney style over other options for places to go I guess right? Like he wasn't passionate about lake houses necessarily or mountain areas/ski resorts....?
We also take loads of other vacations. We both have lots of vacation time and Disney is just one of the options! I realize that's unusual but he knew it wasn't the ONLY vacation we'd ever take.

Awww that story about your son at the end made my boy mom heart so happy!! 💙💙 I can honestly never decide if I would want to do DVC, mainly because I am a west coast girl and would mainly go to Disneyland. I just don’t feel like DVC is as great a choice for DL. If anything I’d do a small contract and do the bank/borrow thing to do WDW every 3 years. Thanks as always for another great video!

I have 2 timeshares. Unfortunately neither is Disney. But both have Resort property within minutes of the gates. It has certainly spoiled me to staying in a hotel room. I like to be able to cook simple meals & we enJOY spreading out in a nice big unit.

I really enjoy the way that you edit your videos and your content. But even after watching several of your videos about DVC, I still don't feel like I have a good handle on how it saves anyone money (except maybe in the very long run). Maybe it's because there are so many "moving parts", but I'll keep watching and trying to learn. :) Thanks for the video(s).
Bottom line is if you add up what we pay in initially plus the annual dues we pay, we will pay overall about 50% less for the room part of our vacation over paying cash for those same trips. And absolutely OVER THE LONG RUN. In the short term, it saves you absolutely nothing!
We went in more to see the cabins and the $100 gift card. Wished we knew more, but it made financial sense. My wife trusted me. It was our honeymoon.
So I have been researching and warming up to the idea. I keep trying to explain the concept to my Hubby...
My Husband: ‘maybe we won’t want to go some years, maybe we will get sick of Disney’.
Also my Husband: ‘streaming live park visits on TH-cam while making Mickey waffles with Disney ride soundtracks playing on our google home speaker’ 😂
Honestly, Christine, for us we could stay at OKW for a week even if we didn't "Disney" - just eating, pool, tennis, etc., so that was what cinched it for us!

My uncle bought DVC at the very beginning-he always says it’s the best decision he’s ever made. I think one time we all went and park tickets were included for all 10 of us? My husband was not interested, but I managed to get him to the tour at Aulani (for the $150 gift card). After the video he said, “Where’s their cult jumpsuit? I’m ready to put it on. I’m thinking we need 350 points?” This was last February and as soon as we came home, COVID hit and he wanted to wait. Now with Magical Express going away, my husband is worried there are more and more things they’re taking away and hopped back on the fence🥺
Jen, I remember a few years ago your son went to Shanghai Disney and brought you back some pins, another went to wdw and brought you back your dooney sketch backpack, another went with you in 2019 to Disneyland California... so your sons visit Disney parks “regularly” without it being a family trip? Do they often go with friends or is it reserved from them as a “family” destination with a few exceptions?
I'm not sure there's any trend to it? And yes the kids have all gone just with me multiple times and on their own!

One thing that changed my husband's mind was saying buying dvc was an investment in our retirement because I wasn't going to stop wanting to go to Disney and I'd also want to have family reunion vacations with our sons' families after we retire and this is how we could do it .
100% Kathy. When Scott saw that we could stay in an ocean view studio in Aulani for a week if we skipped the 2 bedroom at WDW and left the kids at home he was SOLD.😂

I've tried Googling this question but haven't had luck finding an answer so maybe you or someone else here can help. If the week I want to stay overlaps into two different seasons which weekly rate do they go with? The one you check in during or the one you check out during?
Great question, Amy! It depends on the actual nights. So if the first part of my trip is in low season for OKW and I'm in a studio it might be 10 points for the first three nights but then jump up to 12 points for the rest of the week. I hope that helps! And I'm 90% sure I'm right on that but you could always call DVC to verify!
Really enjoyed this vlog even though I’m divorced I can relate to it. I’ve been watching and reading comments on DVC since you started your channel. I want Disneyland tower but may buy resale before that opens. Being in California I wonder what benefits you’d get buying the tower direct.
