@ scale degree 4 in a major scale is a P4 (perfect 4th) from the root. If you raise scale degree 4 a semitone you get an A4 interval which gives you the Lydian mode.
I forget that Steve Vai was the first musician to play the Lydian mode. All hail Steve Vai. Inventor of music theory. Wait no, that’s right this is clickbait designed to entertain beginners. I actually believed it for a second. The Lydian mode was popularized many many many many years ago. There’s examples of the Lydian mode in music from Gregorian chants to Haydn symphonies. But let’s keep thinking Steve Vai is important.
Man, Guitar World, I have loved and purchased your magazine since Adrian Belew appeared on the cover in a pink suit… Sincerely, I love you guys, but your website runs like dog shit. No matter where I am, what my internet collection is like, or which device I am using, the pages take forever(!) to load and, even worse, keep flashing to blank, white pages as they load and reload and reload and RELOAD again…and again…and again. And I am not running ad blockers or anything… What is it, the amount of tracking/user data harvesting nonsense that you need to employ to make the website profitable? It’s 2025, every other entity has a website that runs like the hands of angels are constantly tweaking and adjusting it… YOU CAN DO THIS!!! I believe in you!!
love this series! thank you
Its crazy hearing Lydian everywhere in Vai's work after knowing what the sound is!
Or playing Zelda games
Satch big time Lydian
The Lydian is derived from the E major scale.
Long used well before Satriani or Vai.
Check out George Russell in jazz.
Very helpful, thank you. 🤘🏻🎶
You could look at this backwards and you’re really moving from E major seven the one cord to A major seven the four cord in the key of E. Simple.
What's the difference with normal E major chord progression?
You should watch the whole video.
Yes! A Lydian is the 4th Modal scale of E major, the E Major is the parent key of A Lydian.
Basically, you can use the E Major Scale while playing the A Chord.
E major scale starting on A
I thought, DORIAN was ! Sorry if I was wrong
It’s all Dorian to me….just shift the pattern around and start and end on the same note. A Lydian equals F# Dorian starting A to A! Change my mind😆
A4 interval from the root
"A4" interval?
@ Abbreviation of an augmented fourth.
