Where is Jackie?? ☃️ A big snowstorm came through the Big Bear CA area yesterday and covered the nest of Jackie and Shadow and their three freshly laid eggs. Jackie has been incubating the eggs non stop for the past 48 hours without taking a break! She has been keeping the three eggs toasty warm at around 105 F degrees underneath her brood patch! Every two to three hours, after getting covered in snow, she would rise up and shake the snow off her wings and then go right back to incubating the eggs. She knows that she can not leave the eggs during this type of weather or the eggs will freeze so her dedication is amazing to watch! When the snow lets up, Shadow will come to the nest and give her a much needed break. What a trooper Jackie is! Thank you for watching!

WOW! No one can say that if no eggs hatch this year it isn't because she didn't try! My God what she has gone through for those little creatures! I mean I am liking the new hair doos but for real. She is beyond compare! That eagle is incredible and to know that she lays there every minute trying to keep her babies alive. I trust the eagles and I will never question them again!

I'm a Night owl--by inclination not Insomnia and watched most of the Night live. Jackie was the Star during this Rain/Snow Storm--showing her stuff as a Mom. S will have his chance in this 2 eagle Nest.
L. H : Agree with comment below this one. Nothing more Pure White than powdery, just fallen snow--before it starts to condense from heat/cold cycles. Today was a double Boon --from J's long incubation effort and Viewer/chat totals over 11,000. Many were Enchanted with One of the many Scenic morning Views that Big Bear often has, complements of Nature. Thanks for Posting.

@@patti3dJackie won't leave those eggs in this weather. She just hunkers down and rides it out. Shadow did a fly by this morning checking on her. If she needed him she would call him. He chortled to her this evening from the Waldo Tree area and she answered back. They've got this!
@@AngelaS22 thank you so much. I just started watching them. So not familiar with these BB eagles. I used to follow the decorah eagles in Iowa. And the male was always close by. I watched them during a horrible wind and thunderstorm. Amazing creatures!
@@patti3d yeah Shadow is nearby and knows their routine well. His bond with Jackie is so strong and yet tender, that it makes me cry sometimes. He brought in some fluff on Saturday and proceeded to tuck it around her tenderly and lovingling. Thousands of people were watching at the time and you could just hear the collective awwwwww ❤️ from those watching. Shadow is just an amazing partner and truly supports her so very well. We all have an eagle crush on him due to his charming ways. I do check other nests, but Jackie and Shadow's relationship is just next level special. He knows her very well and goes out of his way to please his Queen.

Jackie deserves eagle mom of the year award. We’ve been having bad weather this week at Southern California and every time I check on Big bear eagle cam, my heart melts and break for Jackie, hope this weather ease up soon and hope the 3 eggs will survive and grow up healthy and fledge. You can see her doing crop drops which means she’s not starving. But the snow is getting so high that having a PS might be difficult 🤭 I hope the snowstorm stops soon. 💕🦅

I’m so glad you covered this, LH. Thank you. What an amazing thing to witness! It has kept me checking back at least hourly for many hours. I saw this happen last season (my first) and I so admire Jackie’s commitment to her (potential) babies. What a strong Mom she will be, God willing. I’d love to see Jackie and Shadow get the chance to raise some eaglets again. Last year was such a disappointment for them and for their thousands of followers. BTW, quite an accomplishment and effort on your part, going through 24 hours of video to put this together! Again, thank you.

I think eagles are built for cold weather…plus, I guess once the snow covers you, it acts like insulation. Still, hard to watch. She’s up so high…with the wind, it has to be very, very cold. Uncomfortable to sit still for so long, and I bet she’s hungry too.

Praying for these eggs to hatch. This nest seems like it gets such harsh winter weather for raising babies. I feel like the eagles should lay their eggs a little later. Jackie is such a devoted mama, I'll definitely be cheering her on.

Hello alexandra bald eagles can store food in their crop for up to a week so Jackie should be fine. Remember, they are built to withstand this type of weather with their 7,000 feathers which keep her protected from the harsh elements. It is actually better to see this soft snow rather than freezing rain and hail. She will be fine and the weather should break tomorrow!

@@alexandrabda5956 And the "powder" snow is literally powder. Dry and fluffy. You can fall into deep powder, get out and brush yourself off ...no wet spots.
She's got a wall of snow around her to deflect wind, a crop full of food, and Shadow is checking on her. I watched some eagles in AZ hunting after a BIG snowfall, and they only had to check the small spots of open water for ducks and coots. They took turns strafing the open spots and grabbing off ducks like bobbing for apples. (bad for the ducks, but the eagles were impressive). They were so focused on hunting they ignored me.
Perserverence, endurance, loyal. Just as an EAGLE stirs up its nest, Hovering over its fledglings, Spread out its wings, taking them. Carrying them on its pinions. An eagle is loyal, just like a stork. My heart breaks seeing her cover her babies from the snow magadan! Finding food will be hard! Where is shadow? Goodness, I hope he is all right!😢❤
Hello Pump Shadow is fine and is close by the nest. In weather like this, eagles hunker down to conserve their energy. The storm should be over by tomorrow and we should see him back at the nest soon!

Great TL! I sure took lots of captures today! I couldn't believe last night & today, esp her frozen shut eyes, which I missed went on for a while. "Hmmm, oh well, I don't need to see right now anyway. Zzzzz." Also missed the (not nest tree) tree/branch breaking crack. That's the thing that's bothering me the most, the weight. But that tree hasn't been around a long, long time for nothing. I think we're in uncharted waters, though. I hope Fiona and hubby are in a warm den! And other wildlife. I saw in chat that Shadow had been seen. Whew! He must have a great storm roost! I guess we'll lose this cam, too. Impressive batteries! Oh I heard a limb cracking and breaking from the weight of the ice and snow.and so did Jackie at 6:00 PM or scroll to 6.46. I pray Jackie's tree will stay safe.
Heard that also! She did also. We had a tree fall and some big branches from the beautiful Monterey pines. I’ve seen red tail hawks up there. Not sure if it was the same tree though. Fell on a house and damaged the roof and cars.
@@patti3d I hope the people are okay in the house. I have lived in many of those type of storms and there is always trees and huge limbs falling. Those storms are difficult for both humans and animals aren't they?

Thank you for this. I was hoping too see a time lapse because I had to sleep and do other things so I missed a lot of the snow shakes. I know Jackie and all Bald Eagles are nearly as winter hardy as penguins but it's still amazing to see.

Scan through the video and just watch how far that tree leans over under the weight of all that snow over the course of the night. I’m sure it’s a sturdy tree and won’t fall over, but wow that’s a lot of weight! (A lot of SNOW!)

I don't think the nest has tipped. That is the side of the nest that Jackie is using to get up and shake the snow out of her feathers and the drift is off to one side.

I worry about all that weight on the tree and I worry about Shadow. Where does he go? Is he trying to hold onto a branch close by in that terrible wind and snow to keep watch? At least Jackie has the nest to lay in. Is it possible for Shadow to fly in this storm and catch any food. I don't want to see anymore one parent nests.
I am just so delighted the nest can hold all that extra weight! Truly impressive work by Mama Jackie persevering through that snow storm!! 💓 Thanks for keeping us in the loop yet again Lady Hawk!
Poor thing! Nature is amazing but I feel so bad for her. Anyone seen her eat at all?
I know her feathers protect her from the elements, but does that mean she never gets cold?
I am sure that she is cold but it is not unbearable. Those 7,000 feathers are tremendous insulators and keep her body temperature stable. Also this soft snow is a blessing as it is an insulator as well. What you don't want to see is the freezing rain and hail - that is what killed Cookie - his feathers became wet and he lost the insulation properties. Also there was not enough room for Jackie to cover both eaglets from the harsh elements. But Jackie is completely fine in this snow!
Totally buried in snow, dark of night and suddenly CRACK, crack and her head pops up. Instantly she is alert. A nearby tree has broken under the snow weight or wind.
Momma eagles are the best example of nurturing and sacrifice and dedication. Hope their hard work pays off this season!❤
I think she needs to think about moving to a warmer dry climate....poor Jackie. I guess Shadow is snowed in too.
