Using Yanmar YT235 Tractor To Build Compost

  • In today's video, I am using our new Yanmar YT235 Tractor to create compost piles (or mountains) for the Savvy Organics market garden fields. This is only our second season to grow but we can tell you that our North Texas black clay soil is a horrible soil to work with. During the fall and winter months, we are composting shredded tree mulch and adding the gathered litter materials and chicken manure from where our chickens have been over the summer. It is going to take time to create better soil conditions using back to eden gardening, permaculture and composting methods combined.

How are these piles doing today? Do you add water to the piles to help them break down? how long does it take to break them down? How many hours do you have on your tractor? any issues at this point? What has been the cost of maintenance on it? Do you still like it after 2.5 years? Sorry for all the Qs.

Piles are doing great. Getting ready to add vent pipes next time I turn them. Composting time varies so we always sift it. YT235 has just about 500 hours. Love it! Thanks!

Seems like your RPMs/throttle might be too low when auto throttle isn’t revving it up, like when you come to a stop to dump a bucket.

Thanks! You may be right. I will keep that in mind.

What is your opinion on the 235 now that you've had it some time? i am mulling one now, I am between it and a 3033R

Still love it. Excellent for our five acre farm and homestead.
