Ive heard that having chronic depression is an automatic disqualifyer for any military service. I myself have chronic depression and take a very minuscule amount of lexapro to get that part of my brain working again.
This August, I am set to start nursing school where i plan to graduate in May of 2026 and become RN in the ICU. I plan to then work for my BSN and commision as an officer to become a flight nurse with (conveniently) the 122ndFW in Fort Wayne. Will my chronic depression prevent this goal from happening? I do apologize for the wordy message, and i hope i am clear in my query. Thanks for your time and service.
@thebutler5188 Are you taking any prescribed medication for your depression?
If so, you will not be eligible at this time. You must be removed off of the medication by a doctor, and it is written in your medical records. You must be off of the medication for 3 years from the date in your medical records before you can contact an Air Force recruiter. Need all med docs for depression/anxiety. An applicant cannot just stop taking prescribed medications on their own.

Can a green card holder join the us Air Force academy?
@isingizweraymond3411 The U.S. Air Force Academy is one of the most selective colleges in the country. Admission requirements are high, and the competition is intense. To be eligible, you must be: A U.S. citizen. Of good moral character. At least 17, but less than 23 years of age by July 1 of the year you would enter. The age requirement is public law and cannot be waived. You must meet high leadership, academic, physical, and medical standards to apply. You must be unmarried with no dependents. Your recruiters are lacking. After getting out of the Army National Guard . I started the paperwork for the Airforce reserves . My recruiter said he'd be glad to help .After sending me to meps and getting all my paperwork done and doctor's appointments. Now, he doesn't pick up the phone or answer my texts. It's been 3 months since i spoke to him.
