I didn't mention it in the tutorial, but I recommend a 1.5mm (1/16 inch) thick softwood for this project, such as Obeche, Basswood, Limewood or Jelutong. I don't usually use Balsa for my projects, but it would also be suitable for these crates. :)
I've experienced that too, but if you make your pencil mark and then position the blade of the mitre cutter just to the right of it, you should be able to get them all the same size. I hope that helps.
Thank you Tere. I buy all of my wood from a UK supplier; www.modelshop.co.uk But if you're not in the UK, please have a look at my Working with Wood video, where I give advice on all types of suitable wood, and you should be able to find something that's available near you.
I made some of them, the apples and potatoes and some are bought pieces. Do look out for a clay veg tutorial though, as I'll be making a crate of veg for my kitchen. :)
You always make following directions so easy. Thanks kiddo.

Julie Warren I definitely will
How do you cut the smaller pieces? I have a hand held miter saw and small pieces always seem to be different sizes

I'm love your work and your patience. Could you tell me where to buy that kind of wood. Thank you. God Bless you Julie.

Did you make the vegetables ?

Hi!! Lovely project. May I ask, what kind of tool do you use to cut the pieces? Thank you.
Hi Vivian. I use a basic Swann Morton craft knife, which takes a 10A blade. Do have a look at my 'Working with Wood' video for tips on cutting wood.
Julie Warren Thank you for your prompt response. Last night I ordered your book of step by step; love your pristine work. Blessings.
