i would have loved to hear that conversation with the truck officer "Hey guys... we went over our test time.... well.. least we know you guys can see it! HA HA HA"
I watched this whole series for the last video. Great Job working on everything Nic!
@@nics-systems-electric Also fun fact i got a est 2 panel working from parts and my LCD says a location in Calgary lol. Tho theres so many troubles like loop controller 1 and 2 have trouble and a battery trouble and one more trouble.
Thanks for all the recording and editing you do for these videos Nic. Its a lot of work and we get to see how these systems work and troubleshooting nobody else would bother to show.
I've had the fire alarm system in my own home disabled for a while now and you have made me aware I should now get some sort of simple system running again
Loved this latest series a lot. Interesting how they left one of the old Edwards heats under the crawlspace instead of replacing. Also interestingly enough; turns out the original wing of this school was built around 1957 and had a slight addition (the section with the cinder block walls) in the late 70s. I’m beginning to suspect that the previous 6500 system was likely installed about then (given the labels on the Durabels) The new system sounds fabulous, now I can definitely tell they’ll be able to hear that no problem in the rooms come next fire drill. Too bad the building’s coming down soon but on the other hand; you’ll be able to salvage lots of compatible spare parts for your house system.
Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed. Yeah looking at some of the as-builts there's been a few different additions there. Hard to say what will happen to the equipment as I'm not sure if they can have a building without a fire alarm system for a period of time I won't be working there anymore by then so I may not know what happens.
@@nics-systems-electric what is your plan if you want be working there when the demo the school
@@michaelwilkerson6736 I won't be as I will not be working with the school district at that point
Another job well done man! And we appreciate the editing and time you take to make these videos. System turned out great as always! It's a good feeling to go back and look at what you and your team put together, we do it all the time lol
ive been watching these videos for AGES i feel like im 60yo but im not lol. btw when your co worker shorted the system and set it off i actually jumped. also i have probabally been more quiet than that quiet kid in class lol anyways i appreciate the effort you put into your videos keep em coming i am looking forward to the november test
also am going to add to this i really do agree your different to the other fire alarn enthusiasts i mean who does durability testing? your the only one i can think of
Great video as always. It's also funny at times when you fast forward.
46:01 The local fire departments have got to be tired of seeing you guys! xD
In all seriousness, do you know what caused the alarm?
Aside from false alarms and satisfying panel plastic peels, though, this has been a really good series! Maybe I haven't looked far enough, but your fieldwork videos seem to be the only ones that have a good balance of showing raw work, giving context, and providing perspective. Great job!
Thanks, coworker thought he was invincible from shorting it out and setting it off as it's addressable but forgot he could still hit the switch lol
Great video nick! Thanks for these videos!
“Well the relay to call the fire department works” 😂
Amazing job. The panel looks just like your home fire alarm panel except the door opens the other way
Thanks, that's a nice part about the larger cabinets is you can switch what side the door opens from
That happened to my elementary school they tore it down in 2012 I Still wish they kept the gym.
Great job!!
Hopefully they keep the new fire alarm equipment for the new school
Love The Vids Nic
The fear of a loud alarm going off right next to your ear drum is the reason I have a fear of alarm systems, though watching your videos has slowly removed that fear thank you, also what program did you use to log the notifier commands
Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed. I can't remember but it turns the computer into a printer as far as the panel can tell and will write line by line
Hope yall take the panel and stuff when the building is demoed
I sure hope that in the future when the school is torn down that they have a plan to save the equipment that you just put in
Would depend on how the demolition works out and if they can have a building without a functional system for a period of time
Plz make more videos with Hayden
before the school is demolished you should get the system since it's almost brand new
Would be nice but I'm not sure if it would be possible since I won't be working there anymore
10:03 was that an old BCHydro "Please Turn Me Off" sticker on the light switch?
I hope the school doesn’t end up like your high School with false alarms
What do you mean? If people want to pull it they are going to that's not the fault of the system
I mean both people pulling it, and smoke detectors going off
Did you have to replace the whole system or could you of put in a conventional panel instead?
Not many options available for conventional panels that would work.
Nic, will the alarms be removed from the building before it is demolished?
31:05 the wild West theme lol
Did you hook back up the red strobe lights
No they aren't required in that municipality so they weren't hooked up ever but the portables come with them because they can be moved from municipality to municipality and some do require them
If the system is still functioning properly after 5 years, doesn’t it make sense to strip the school of the Fire Alarm system before demolition, save the parts and reuse it?
Depends how the demolition plays out and how it would work with having a building without a fire alarm system for a period of time
There’s got to be some kind of safety code in canada that explains it better than we could. I remember being in my high school that didn’t have a proper “working” system. Bare minimum with no strobes, possibly non-addressable. But don’t worry, my school passed a 5.6 million dollar bond that involved a new agricultural building and a whole new fire alarm and phone system
So, youre saying that you did this, all of this, every single pull and smoke, just for the building to come down in 5 years?
Damn. Like I know it was a ground fault.. but damn.
Yeah no matter how short the the useful life of a building is it still needs a functional fire alarm system
The video was cool and interesting, why do people not install that many white devices such as a white horn or horn strobe.
@@FireGuy1500because the device colors have to stand out not blend in
@@SodiumInduction-hv that doesn’t apply to notification appliances
@@SodiumInduction-hv you just need line of sight for notification appliances, they don’t need to be super obvious like pull stations do
When the pull stations are activated, how come the fire alarms don’t go off?
How can a system just be swapped from conventional to addressable. I don’t really understand what makes conventional conventional and addressable addressable
It's pretty simple to swap conventional to addressable you just have one communication loop that all of the old zones become and you have isolator modules to isolate the zones /sections of the building
39:19 imagine if the gray horn went off beside the fire alarm while you are up there…
When doing this kind of work you need to get like a go pro cam strapped around your head instead of phone just saying 😅
I had a GoPro but I have a few issues with them one being that the low light performance isn't very good as well as the battery the phone is so much more convenient especially being my primary task is getting the job done the video is just an extra part that I do if I can but I don't need to look any extra Strange wearing a camera could become questionable
Can you try to record the Demolition if you can
Not sure if it's still happening, but I probably wouldn't be able to as I would be working or in school and it's a half an hour drive from where I live.
If the school is going to be demolished in a couple years why put in a new system?
Because the old system had a ground fault so it Hass to have a fully functional system
i don't know if it is just me but in most of the video has a winning noise
46:01 How did you set the system off?
@@nics-systems-electric I want to assume it's Jamie but I could be wrong.
Brand new system and its being torn down in 5 years wtf
It doesn't matter how much time is left for a buildings useful life it still needs to have a functional fire alarm system
@nics-systems-electric true. forgive my ignorance was it the box that was bad do to ground fault and it was to old to get a replacement?
Hi
Proper Way To Test A Manual Pull Station Is To Activate By Pull Not Opening .... Opening is To Reset Toggle Only
Never seen anyone actually do that when there's break glass
Long way to come pannel fire control
You know, I wish that the school district didn't have to redo the fire alarm system if it is going to be demolished, but because the system had the internal ground fault, and laws don't allow fire alarms to have troubles. But still, got to protect the building and everyone in it up until the building's demise comes.
