But we were on the weather channel 162.550. the trick is we are about 20 ish miles away from the tower, the weather channel was coming in Crystal clear on both our radios. But us being far from the tower allowed us to talk also crystal clear to each other. It was kinda like a squelch that plays temperature 🤣. So when 💩 hits the fan find a frequency that is in use by something automated to communicate on kinda like a hidden signal underneath another one and don't use more power than necessary to break over the signal. A good frequency is in the 25mhz band where it plays the atomic clock time too. The whole point is on a spectrum analyser they will know those frequencies are weather or atomic clock frequencies and won't be monitoring them 24/7 if at all🤫

If you can’t see the current necessity for preventing those who will use ham radio communication illegally then you are naive indeed. The new reality is what it is - if you don’t care that radio networks will be used by some illegally to promote the undermining of Democracy then you are enabling and encouraging their intentions and efforts. And who, exactly, is 'regulating free speech' by issuing a reminder?
Here's the complete 'warning'. Please indicate where it violates the 1st Amendment.
      FCC ENFORCEMENT ADVISORY
      DA 21-73
      Released: January 17, 2021
WARNING: AMATEUR AND PERSONAL RADIO SERVICES LICENSEES AND OPERATORS MAY NOT USE RADIO EQUIPMENT TO COMMIT OR FACILITATE CRIMINAL ACTS
The Enforcement Bureau (Bureau) of the Federal Communications Commission issues this Enforcement Advisory to remind licensees in the Amateur Radio Service, as well as licensees and operators in the Personal Radio Services, that the Commission prohibits the use of radios in those services to commit or facilitate criminal acts.
The Bureau has become aware of discussions on social media platforms suggesting that certain radio services regulated by the Commission may be an alternative to social media platforms for groups to communicate and coordinate future activities. The Bureau recognizes that these services can be used for a wide range of permitted purposes, including speech that is protected under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Amateur and Personal Radio Services, however, may not be used to commit or facilitate crimes.
Specifically, the Bureau reminds amateur licensees that they are prohibited from transmitting “communications intended to facilitate a criminal act” or “messages encoded for the purpose of obscuring their meaning.” 47 CFR § 97.113(a)(4).
Likewise, individuals operating radios in the Personal Radio Services, a category that includes Citizens Band radios, Family Radio Service walkie-talkies, and General Mobile Radio Service, are prohibited from using those radios “in connection with any activity which is against Federal, State or local law.” 47 CFR § 95.333(a).
Individuals using radios in the Amateur or Personal Radio Services in this manner may be subject to severe penalties, including significant fines, seizure of the offending equipment, and, in some cases, criminal prosecution. 47 U.S.C. §§ 401, 501, 503, 510.

If the ham bands become a threat to national security, which would not take a lot of people to provoke, how quickly could the FCC order the shutdown of bands with heavy QRM (radio warblers and noise emitters), as is used in certain bloc countries? If I were at the security planning table, I'd certainly recommend readiness to shut down the bands at a moment's notice. Unfortunately most of those criminals aren’t still around to get accurate feedback. On the brighter side, our tax dollars are not being wasted to keep them alive on death row. And. I know another Ham that has a conviction for buying and using crack cocaine and had a license up until it expiring recently but still has the option to renew it! So, that being said, to one extent the FCC really doesn't care about Amateur Radio until a Ham spews obscenities while running 10kw about a the government and politicians in some manner or another and to that extent the FCC comes down with the full weight of federal violations, prison time and fines at which the sale of their QTH wouldn't cover in a hundred lifetimes!

I became a licensed amateur radio operator in 1958, at age 13. I got my general ticket in 1959, at age 14. Have been in amateur radio for 62 years. I have a basement and an attic full of synthesizers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, waveform analyzers, pulse generators, high and low voltage supplies, signal generators, logic analyzers. So they are saying they want to shut down your freedom to assemble and peacefully redress your government for grievances.

I used to do CB radio, was a member of REACT and when hurricane Agnes came thru here, we saved lives - there was over 130 of us who kept watch, provided information on flood conditions, emergency requirements and so on. We has shifts for 2 weeks while PA was pounded by terrential downpours. Was a great time and honor to be part of it.
As a Trump supporter, isn't it true that you have to worry about what lefties define as "crime" to know what exactly is meant by a crime? With the way the media is raving about how Trump supporters attacked democracy or started insurgency and all the other nonsense, seems like everyone can define anything however they see fit. The rest of the world is fed up with how this has all gone down and think the lefties are a laughing stock and BS.

This is happening to the model aircraft hobby. They’re currently punishing remote UAV pilot operators and accusing them of crimes by strapping a remote ID to our aircrafts. I’m thankful that they want to enforce a knowledge exam because the community has been wanting one to prove to the FAA that we are capable to performing safe and legal flight, but we have to be given the opportunity... and here we see ham radio operators who ARE LICENSED the same kind of accusation I am seeing in the remote model aircraft community!!
The government is searching for a crime, that’s it. They want to find illegal operators... they want to eliminate our hobbies for commercials reasons. You know the 5cm band? It’s a ham band that is now being used for wifi...... 5G and LTE took some bands away from us too... The government is picking away at us.
It’s a slow process, but the government wants to remove our privileges bit-by-bit.... Only leaving behind the scrap they don’t want...

When we get licensed thru the FCC or the FAA for UAS we agree to all the laws surrounding it. Criminals will not take the time to get licensed. The FAA requires a Homeland security clearance and TSA background check. The FCC may start implementing this as well.

Nothing "odd" about this message from the FCC and ARRL at all. There are indeed "extremists" that are using ham radio, GMRS, CB, and FRS for their "activities", it's happening in the area where I live, and they're not even trying to hide it. As a matter of fact I have stopped associating with several people in the area because even though I support President Trump, they are and have been "off the deep end" for quite some time. Been going on for a couple years now.

With what happened with the ATT building, cell/phone/tv service was knocked out for a wide region down there. With the increasing riots, vandalism, destruction and.....oh shoot....I mean peaceful protests, I suspect many people are looking for other ways to communicate in emergencies, in case it happens in their area.
I suspect they are seeing a large influx of people testing and getting licensed as a direct result of these things. That’s why I am getting mine, I live out in the country a bit and want to be able to find out what is going on or what I need to do to protect my family if other modes of communication are down.
I also suspect this is largely government paranoia, maybe they are doing some bad things, some may say treasonous. Look at Paranoid Pelosi calling the JCofS and the Marine Core Commandant.
