Very nice clamp. Thank you for sharing. I used my LM 29 for the first time today and I can tell you the standard Norwood clamp is a poor excuse for a clamp. I will try your design🏅🏅🏅
I to am having the same problems. I can get the log secured but by the time I get to the end of the cut it has vibrated loose and fell off. I even switched that hard steel pipe for a softer piece of regular pipe hoping it would bite in better. No luck. Took the hand crank off and welded a 3/4 nut on. Now I use an impact driver to sink the dog well into the log. That does not work. I mostly have trouble with smaller, lighter logs. The big heavy logs vibrate less. Your dog, what keeps it from sliding back when clamped? I just can't get these things to bite on and hold with all the vibration of milling. Thanks for posting your idea.
i really like your clamp. i have a woodland mills and the clamp is excellant but i couldnt find where i could purchase another . i will build one using your design , thank you.
Your clamp is awesome. I have the HD36 and it's also shit. I think Norwood needs to get their head out of there @$$. I have actually worked more on my sawmill than with it. Now I'll spend the next day devising a good, convenient, reliable clamping system. Your clamp puts pressure horizontally which wedges it nicely. Dummy Norwood's puts the pressure laterally which causes the piece to rise up off the bunks when clamping (which is great if you like to cut f*cked up lumber,
I have to find a better way to secure the log in place. How can a person mill an unsecured log? I ran Woodmizers for 20 years. With the hydraulic clamp nothing moves. It is rock solid. I just need this Norwood to hold the log solid. Was anyone upgraded to the rapid doging system?
I have seen that dog on other brands and it work pretty well on a small log but what about with the big one? The handle of your dog will stick out way to much above the track and the carriage won't be able to go any father. It seems like you need lots of force too to lock it up vs the Norwood dog that require pretty much no effort and does a great job on my LM29. As long as it work for you that all that matter ;)
agreed buddy that norwood clamp is garbage and check out the woodmizer manual log turner im building that thing as soon as i can lol and thanks for the log clamp idea
YES! Hate those goofy log dogs that came with my Lumbermate!! This is what I'm talikn' 'bout. No more 'dancing' between the two log dogs when you can just have one and a TRUE "one man" mill. Whoever engineered the factory log clamps never touched the carriage on any mill. If they did they knew they were selling products that "one" man couldn't really operate. Really Norwood?
I hope Norwood is watching. I like my saw but their dogs are for the dogs! Great video!
Great design. Very elegant. I'm going to borrow this design for my homebuilt mill. Thanks for sharing!
Genius man! You should feel very accomplished of this one!
I love you. I hate the dog system that comes with the machine. And the jack is brilliant
VERY clever.
nice idea.. i had problem with their log dogs for HD36
Brilliant! Short and to the point
love that mate i will make one for my mill cheers great share
Love my LM 29 but do agree with those points of it . Good video
