The idea that games can be truly alter our understanding of reality may be little overstated. In reality, our perception of the game world is limited by the constraints of the game design. They are still bound by rules and limitations set by developers. So, the whole ability of games to manipulate reality is really really limited possible.
Glad I could find someone with same amount of love for The Stanley Parable. I just can't get that game out of mind like seriously that was a unique experience I would like to experience again 👀
Couldn't have explained it any better than this. I personally think that everyone should try out games like Superliminal and Antichamber much better than listening some so called guru about the same thing...
Just 30 views? Are you serious? This has to one of the best video essays I've ever watched on a such unique perspective. Everything explained is just in a proper yet casual style. Liked and subbed, hope to see more videos 🙂
I already see so many appreciation comments so I will just drop a suggestion. Try some variation in voiceover, like fast at some places and slow at others it will give a boost in the narration quality.
Those Bioshock Infinite and Spec Ops example just made me drop a like instantly. On a much more deeper level, I highly doubt that anything like free will exists when everything we choose to do is in one way or other influenced by our environment and info we had growing up. So isn't it possible to manipulate it by providing an artificial environment?
Superliminal has to be one of the most mind-twisting video games. I remember playing it after hearing about it from my friend and that game just changed the way I used to look at things and more importantly my life. And the continuation of this perception realm is that your beliefs are made on this which shape your thoughts and ultimately your actions so it basically all starts with "perception" :)
"We have Jacob Geller at home" Jokes aside, this was such a good video. Perfectly narrated, edited and the wordplay is just on another level. Keep improving and you will be among the top guys in this video essay niche. (ツ)
I have always been drawn to games that mess with my mind, and this video perfectly captures why. The way games manipulate reality and force you to question our own perceptions is what makes gaming such an unique experience. Though, its not just about the perception itself, its more about what the person making it is trying to deliver as two people can have completely different perception about the same thing like that '9' example where one says its 9 and the other says that its 6.
I played Antichamber few years back but didn't quite get what the game was about (it was just too confusing for me), so left it. Good to see someone getting the jist of the game. Nice video!

You know what sums all this up is? :Free Will is a Goddamn Ilusion: and welcome to this truth of life.
Wow! This is not what I expected from a video with such views. Definitely underrated work!!!

Some games (really some) are like those movies that hardly anyone knows but completely change the way you live your life.
