    Detox from painkillers suck. I was addicted for 10+ years, decided to try and quit cold turkey, and woke up in the hospital after a seizure. I had no idea what happened. I just woke up on a hospital bed with my family around me, and I immediately felt ashamed, and that's what made me turn things around.
    I've been clean for 10 years or so, but I still think about getting high every day. It's a horrible disease.

    • @michaelpryor78
      @michaelpryor78 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      You really still think about getting high every day? Are you suffering from any untreated mental issues like depression, anxiety, etc that you used to self-medicate with opiates? I get that there can always be longings (I'll have 8 years in July and still get them from time to time), but thinking about getting high every day after a decade isn't normal.

    • @bioshawna
      @bioshawna ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@michaelpryor78 that's the problem with addiction. Post acute withdrawals can last up to two years in some people for opiates. Meth can be even worse bc neurotoxicity... It's very unfortunate.

    • @luke144
      @luke144 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What were you taking? Dear god!

    • @DustinPlatt
      @DustinPlatt ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @Michael Pryor Oh, for sure. After I got off the opioids I became majorly depressed and had some serious anxiety as well. I see a therapist still, even after being clean for a long time, but more than anything, it's the anxiety and depression. The pills messed up my serotonin in my brain. It's never really been the same since. But, I've been trying my best with my therapist to take steps not to rely on meds to help with the anxiety, at least. DO NOT want to become dependent on those or addicted to those. The anti-depressants, however, have been helping a little bit. It was trial and error with MG and which has been the best anti-depressant for me for about 3 years.
      Have been on Lexapro. It's good, stabilizes my moods, my ups and downs (they're not as severe anymore even though everyone has their ups and downs), and the anxiety. It's not habit forming, so I was happy with that.
      The weirdest thing about the whole anti-depressant is that it sometimes makes me feel like an addict, like I need to pop a pill every day to feel normal, ya know?
      But it's most definitely better than when I would take 250mg of oxy, percs, whatever painkiller I could get my hands on every day. I wouldn't take vacations because I was afraid I'd run out of pills, I started pawning off my stuff to afford my habit, stealing, losing friends, losing family, which of course it wasn't their fault.

    • @Ena48145
      @Ena48145 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @Dustin Platt Hey Dustin. I hope you know you're not alone. I'm also on Lexapro.. first time I was on it, I was so much better in only a few months. Stopped taking it because my doctor's office stopped accepting my insurance. Started taking it again about 6 months ago and I am only finally feeling a bit better with anxiety. I've never suffered from drug addiction.. never did them.. but alcoholism runs on both sides of my family and it's hit me hard. I'm finally getting better from that too.
      Keeping you in my thoughts and my heart.

    Just saying.. tbis is what our judicial system should do!!!

    • @doilysimpkin6972
      @doilysimpkin6972 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Two things: A spell in jail is often welcomed by homeless people because they get a roof over their head, a bed and three meals a day. Secondly, getting people treatment for cancer is absolutely NOT on the court's purview. That's not what they're for. They are for enforcing the law. That's all. Now, there may well be a need for more accessible healthcare but that's an issue quite separate and distinct from the courts. Also, having cancer doesn't give anyone license to break the law or be exempt from the consequences.

    • @DinaOnyu-ih7hw
      @DinaOnyu-ih7hw 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A lot of US citizens can't afford healthcare as is. Everyday working people go bankrupt from chronic illness. It's easy to say things like 'patient first' and 'everyone deserve healthcare'. But that doesn't solve the problem. US needs quality universal healthcare, eliminate PBM, paid maternity leave, social security reform, affordable housing, mental health service expansion, foster care system reform, education reform.... all of these require money which then require major tax reform, reduction in military and VA spending etc. If you see a problem, think of a practical solution, petition and advocate for policy change.

About 8 years ago I detoxed off 175mlg methadone and dope benzos I didn't sleep for over 30 days and went mental. I got post traumatic stress from that. I did seize up and almost bit my tounge off. It is heartbreaking to see the physical condition of the detainees - but I have been binge watching this show all day and the officers treatment of those in their care somehow manage to maintain order yet show such compassion and offer excellent explanations of their reasons why they were arrested, and a willing ear to everyone willing to listen. They give those who have unfortunately been arrested compassion and empathy- they really go above and beyond.
    I stopped watching the show for the “shock factor” and instead watch it in admiration of the officers who are on the show.
    Such an excellent protocol for those who are combative and everything they do to get them booked, seen by the nurse, and given a hot meal.
    I had no idea what went on “behind the scenes” until I watched this show. And I am saddened that these officers are not known and recognized for all of the good they do: from controlling someone combative and drunk and/or high to confused first timers to those who hit rock bottom- they are superbly trained and have an excellent protocol- but it definitely takes a specific mindset to work this job and thank goodness for all of them 💜

    Cops shouldn’t be authorized to detox detainees. They aren’t properly trained to do that! Why do you think rehab exists? Detoxing a god knows how long drug addiction is one of the most difficult things to do

    I know they say its an additional charge for taking the drugs in the lock up, like if they sneak it in or try to hide it so they don't get caught. If the suspect admits it but its where it can't be reached and they take it out in the lock up does that still count?

    • @katherinedempsey853
      @katherinedempsey853 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Depending on where it is hidden, they will usually put them in a room to themselves under constant surveillance till they pass it, example if they swallow drugs in baggies, and most of the time it’s the same with females they will stick them in a room till they can remove it or get it removed. And if they admit it and are unable to retrieve anything I guess it all depends on the jails policy either way it’s an introduction into the facility charge.

      Actually before he collapsed the first time, in booking, the officers were happy to see him. They said that he hadn’t been to the jail in a very long time and word on the street was that he was dead. I’m not sure how the medical staff could not see that he needed to be at the hospital instead of booking. Even the officer commented on the way he was discolored not looking good right before he fainted the first time.
