Tbh, this feels like an old-school bumper to bumper, and I'm here for it. Donut, don't listen to the haters. y'all are doing work, and it shows. Tristan, you're doing a great job.
Sure seems like they actually heard the valid criticism from true fans and made some quick decisions about content direction and the role they play in the car TH-cam culture. They are putting out stuff lately that is really top-notch and the “haters” have pretty much been silenced.
Pretty sad that it took 3 of the strongest presenters leaving for them to realise what people want though. I agree, Tristan seems like a cool guy and this vid was very well done
Josh helped renovate our cabinets and countertops a few years ago. I remember talking about cars with him and he showed me his Scion. Very cool and unique!
This was technically a 15 minute ad for this car and I'm all for it. I love the story. Getting to grow up with that era of cars, it's kinda cool to see it preserved. It's almost like a "where are they now?" Love it!
Hit me in the heart, you can see how much this guy cares about this build and how much love he's put into it. Echoing what other folks are saying, this is a solid video and solid story, goes back to more oldskool Donut. The kinda stuff we want to see. Solid job Tristan and crew, blending the wow factor of Wacky Whips with the heartfelt storytelling of the people behind the builds. Can't wait to see where Tristan goes with Donut, he's rising up!
The Scion community in Southern California was soooooo good. Man, you had to be there. So much camraderie, huge support from Scion Corp, lots of cool events and meets... Literally what got me into the car scene.
This was a masterclass of story telling, editing and pace. I hope Josh gets 2x-3x what he has it listed for. Dude deserves it and I’m glad we got to hear his story and the story of the apparatus.
It's taken me a while to connect with Tristan as a presenter. But this may be it. I also appreciated seeing this big dude get emotional and have him be okay showing that it's okay to care; it's okay to be sad; it's okay to get emotional and nostalgic over the end of an era. Much respect.
I remember this dude back in the day. I had pictures of the box on stage after the paint job. I never knew why i lost contact with him or why he sold his car. I was in the xB community and not part of the mini trucks. I lost my xB (SWATZAUTOMAN, ICEBOX,SWARTZMAFIA) about 9 years ago because of a bad mental collapse. It cost me my hobbies and employment. Since then I've found out im autistic and wasn't handling life well. Last I knew, my old car was in Kansas city Missouri. After sitting on the couch for a few years just staring at the walls, I got an ebike and put 4k miles on the local bike trails.
I should probably start working on getting a diagnosis then, I'm pretty sure being undiagnosed is what cost me my high-school diploma and now is making it harder than pulling teeth to get my GED. I feel like I'm on a course for the same kind of life events but that I'm too busy or too drained to steer myself off that path. Any words of advice?
It is hard to give any advice. mental health stuff is super individual and should be taken seriously. It's been a rough road for me for sure, but I keep pushing, only focusing on my well-being and what works for me. I found some additional help in watching TH-cam vids of other with similar issues as mine and how they cope with life.
@@AdventureswithB.O.B. Sorry my reply was worded incorrectly. My brain skipped right over the "I" that was meant to be at the beginning. I was trying to say I should probably get a diagnosis, not to imply you should.
This is the best video I've seen donut make in a while know, even topping pre/post covid donut, Tristan is very authentic and connected beautifully with Josh. He instantly became one of my favorite hosts on YT and I really hope they continue this as a series.
Dude, if I had the 10k I would snatch that up in a hearbeat! It looks like something you'd see in a Smashmouth video from 2004 and I'm all for it! You can tell Josh was giving that advice at the end from his heart, and that he truly made a whip that made him happy regardless of what anyone else might have had to say. Hate that he has to let it go, but I understand wanting to end an era so you can begin a new one. Wish him all the best! Also just wanna say that I really enjoy this format! Telling stories of unique cars and the people that built them!
As a 2005 xB owner I was stoked when you got the FR-S and to see this gem of a box featured I love it. I've seen this car many times over the years online in the various Scion communities. Such a great build.
Honestly I rolled my eyes a bit at the introduction of another segment, but this was one of the better videos I've seen in a while. It seemed genuine. Great job 👏
I remember when Scion was coming up, we got a tC because it was such a great car for the price. Toyota sent us promotional material, and I remember seeing this car in the magazine for owners of a Scion and what possibilities you could do with your new Scion. This thing was so wild then and it's still pretty damn wild now. Great seeing this car getting some props.
Really loved this. Honestly, I'm not what you'd call a "car guy" by traditional standards. Aviation is my passion. I work on jet parts for a living, but part of what started to get me into this sort of thing is working with your hands, and the fact that I love all the wacky cool stuff like this. As long as your passionate and doing your own thing, it's all good. Tristan is a real G for doing this. Mad ups.
Guys, this video is the type of content that represents what Donut means to me. From the older era, car community being for everyone with all the weirdness and kinks that come with it. This car and owner have a great story - I loved this type of content. A lot of ppl bash wacky builds but we dnt know what drove the person to omdify their vehicle the way they do. Every build deserves their story to be told.
This was fantastic! It’s great seeing Donut learn from their mistake with focusing on chasing clicks. This is deep, touching, and really showed how and why cars are more than the just parts they are comprised of.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero had a rival who drives a Toyota bB (basically the same car), with a flame paint job, and what's crazier is that it was converted to a MR truck.

Its crazy that they kept it alive and didnt crush it like a lot of those builds. Im glad he had the chance to buy it back you can tell the love and heart that he has for the car. Thats what means the most.
I have some mild ptsd related to this car. I was riding with a friend in one when we went through a guardrail, off a bridge, and into a freshly flooded stream. From airborn to completely underwater in about 50 seconds. All of it nearly silent, save for the quick split of the guardrail. Broke my legs pushing the door free, and that was after successfully seeing the inevitable and getting the door open the moment we left the ground. Then I had to swim out of a vacuum made by the car, then against heavy current, in a full winter coat... 2 fast, 2 quiet, 2 scary.
@fastinradfordable He was drunk and it was early morning twilight, making the edges of the road admittedly hard to see and giving the road a fresh glossy sheen of ice thanks to night/day temp diffs in the Spring. So idk if he tried but course correction at speed would've been impossible. I knew we'd lost traction and could tell where we'd hit the rail. So I started getting the doors open and windows down as it happened. I had just woke up and so didn't realize he was wasted until the car started moving. The bridge was barely a quarter mile away from the house.

Really touching to see how much Josh loves this car, and awesome that you told us its story before mentioning the link. i really hope Tropical Breeze finds a great new home with someone who appreciates it as much as it deserves c:
I loved my xB man. I was the second person in Tampa to get one, and it was like driving a Lamborghini around, people always asking what it was, taking pictures, all that stuff. It cam with like 90hp. I got it up to 160 with some engine and clutch work. It was fun! Miss that car bro😢

I took a 06 ridgeline. Put it on 33s, 3inch spacers, retro fit projector lights, led bar, switch back turn signals, wrapped in forged carbon fiber, 15 in kicker 10inch android head unit with a camera rear view mirror. It’s so hated but so dope to me 😅
i already know Wacky Whips is gonna be an alltime great series, this was a helluva pilot. Really touching to see how much Josh loves this car, and awesome that you told us its story before mentioning the link. i really hope Tropical Breeze finds a great new home with someone who appreciates it as much as it deserves c:
Dude! I almost cried man. I want these stories. The feeling and connection in the story. Want more lol
I loved my xB man. I was the second person in Tampa to get one, and it was like driving a Lamborghini around, people always asking what it was, taking pictures, all that stuff. It cam with like 90hp. I got it up to 160 with some engine and clutch work. It was fun! Miss that car bro😢
What a car, what a guy, and what a story. Looking forward to seeing more of this series!
