Fallout in Gaza: Six Months On (Full Length)

  • During the devastating 50-day war in Israel and Gaza this past summer, around 18,000 homes in Gaza were destroyed or severely damaged, leaving around 120,000 residents homeless.
Now, with trouble in neighboring Sinai and infighting between Palestinian factions, reconstruction efforts in the beleaguered Gaza Strip are moving slowly. With the UN warning of a growing humanitarian crisis for the people of Gaza, many fear that another armed conflict is imminent.
Six months after the end of fighting, VICE News returns to the region to investigate the progress on reconstruction.

I'm writing my dissertation on Gaza and the effects the 'ceasefire' is having on the European Union.
One thing that always comes up is women who have a place of power saying that 'Women can do anything they want to do in Gaza' but they never, ever finish that sentence with as long as it's what we say they can do. The legal system is so horrific and barbaric its terrifying. I had the opportunity to go to Gaza but at the last minute had to pull out of the trip because I couldn't get a Visa, thank God for the English government they saved my life. The group I was due to go with still went and never came back, no word from them, no trace of them absolutely nothing apart from an arrest form. The last the officials who dealt with the case heard was that they had been caught with cannabis and had been detained. As you can imagine the tone of my work has now changed to be much more negative of the current regime.

When the Palestinians said that they would agree and give Israel the right to exist just for land and the recognition of both the US and Israel , both the United States and Israel refused to accept the offer and both refused to recognize the existence of Palestine, so the Palestinians would be stateless and have no right to ask any thing from the UN or the international community........ Although subtitles are necessarily already used when non-English speakers are interviewed, it would be much appreciated to have subtitles for those who are hard of hearing. This was very well done, and although this is such a difficult situation to describe, grasp, or make much sense of, this presentation gives a very good look at the suffering of people and what is happening there on a very human level. Our governments and propaganda leave us confused about the bigger picture. There is no reasoning that could ever be justified for this destruction in a time when humanity has the capabilities we now have. I began to read the other comments but then stopped after observing just more hostility. Many of us hope for a day when people can respect one another and live in peace and understand that we cannot have peace in a climate of war and hatred.

More emphasis should have been put on Hamas' responsibility for the destruction in the Gaza strip. The notion that Hamas could ever militarily defeat Israel is beyond absurd. This conflict won't be solved with weapons. They need to stop firing rockets, especially firing them from residential areas. There is a video here on TH-cam titled: NDTV exclusive - how Hamas assembles and fires rockets. Search for it!
How can you fire a rocket from a civilian area and then complain about civilian deaths when the other side tries to stop it? The IDF sends out warnings through text messages and leaflets every area they bomb. Hamas is on record telling Gaza residents during the war to ignore the warning messages and stay home. Why wasn't this mentioned in this documentary? The only winners here are the Hamas leaders. They are all rich, living in mansions with staff and all while the vast majority of Gazans are poor.

And as for the siege if hamas were to reconcile with israel and disarm there wouldn't be a siege, but they won't give up their dream of conquering israel so the conflict goes on and on.

Jordan is mostly a country made up of Palestinian people, they chose to make peace with Israel, and there is no war between them. If only they could make peace with Israel, there could be peace. Israel is not going to disappear, they must accept this. Make peace, enough with this ugly war. Even Egypt has peace with Israel, and Egypt makes war on the Gazans by destroying their tunnels. Pretty powerful video, very well made however I think the way that you do your journalism is very biased which isn't fair as you have many young and easily manipulated viewers - for example, whenever Israel has a point you quite clearly say "supposedly or apparently" when it has been proven that the tunnels are used to smuggle weapons... My point is that Israel retaliates to the shelling they receive which in turn causes more harm to Gaza but that is only because Israel has a stronger army and defence force; the question you have to ask yourself is... If you were attacked would you respond with the same force or use 100% of your own force? I think that its a question that answers itself; you have to protect yourself and your people.

      No you don't.
It's a very hard situation and I think it will take many years before any solution is in sight, but the violence needs to stop (from both sides).
Israel can take the first step with this. You have your iron dome etc, all you have to do is not retaliate to a few sugar rockets by levelling en entire neighborhood.

Carl Johnson because Hamas - the terrorist organization - steals and abused the supplies Israel sends in. That’s not Israel’s fault. Blame the fucking terrorists destroying their own home and killing their own people, for fucks sake
She can be sad about what’s happening there, we all are, but that doesn’t make Israel the aggressor. At all

As an Israeli civilian I can tell you... Each and every one of the war that I've been involved in (involved as in having rockets fired at my house kind of involvement) had immediately stopped the moment they stopped attacking. It's always Israel who values the lives and tries its best to create new peace agreement. As Israelis, we all feel bad for the people of Gaza. But when you elect a terror organization as your government you really shouldn't expect anything more then wars and wars all over again. It's Hamas who keeps murdering innocent civilians, and it's also Hamas who forces the women and children to go out to the front and throw Molotovs at soldiers. It's a really difficult fight were having...

The 6th and 7th Prime Ministers of Israel were members of the Irgun terrorist group. Israelis liked the 7th guy so much he was re-elected a few years later. The two of them served a total of 13 years. The Minister of Defense under #7 was elected to be Prime Minister later on.
Israelis have no room to criticize Palestinians for electing Hamas. Electing terrorists to office is a time honored Israeli tradition.
