@xtiandc1 I have Unhalfbricking on cd and I know Jeff has that other title so I can hear it. Yes, I haven't thought of Judee Sill in ages. Thanks for commenting.
Hello Dereck. I can confirm that Babbacombe Lee is a true story. The village of Babbacombe is in Devon on the south west coast of England. I visited there about 20 years ago but the house where the grisly murder took place has long gone. John Lee's autobiography 'The Man They Couldn't Hang' is a fascinating read. Check it out.
Dereck- That cover for the TREES cd is by Hipgnosis, the same people that did the Pink Floyd and a host of other great album covers back in the 70s. Great to hear that its a record I should track down. It is a retouched photograph from the days before Photoshop.
@dereckvon Oh, right! I just checked out the credits on the cover and there´s Celia Humphries on backing vocals, she´s a member of Trees, now I remember. Yes, I have the German issue on vinyl, released on the BASF label. But I´m looking for a better copy. Mine has some backing noise already and plays a VG-.
Nice video Dereck, I like a lot of English folk some of my favorites would be Fairport, Pentangle and the ISB. Also I can recommend a band called Mellow Candle and there album Swaddling Songs it was reissued some years back on vinyl and cd.
@fedor30 Of those mentioned the only one I don't have on cd is Bobb Trimble. I will investigate and thank you. Fairweather is the only other Neon title I have. We won't get into what I used to have.
Oh man, this one is up my alley! Thanks for expanding my mind once again. Fairport's What We Did On Our Holiday and Unhalfbricking are both change-your-life great. I can't imagine you haven't heard 'em. Judee Sill is one of my faves. Those two lp's are among my most treasured in the collection. Another great vid!
That was very interesting Dereck! I´m also a fan of folk music! I have some old albums of Fairport which I just love! I also have a solo album of sandy Denny and 2 Albums of Nick Drake. Just a Question about the Trees-CDs you showed: Is it right Phil Trainer played in this band? I have a solo album of him simply called Trainer and I read somewhere he was member of that band. I really love his album. Its some kinda mixture of rock folk and blues, really awesome.
Ralph McTell....got a lot on record. Would thoroughly recommend My Side Of Your Window to anyone interested. Also the compilation Revisited which is aptly titled seeing at it add some additional instrumentation to the original mixes. Many songs of his make my heart ache. Factory Girl, Clown, Michael In The Garden, Fairground. I spoke to him after a gig once, I shook his hand, a very warm hand....but also a careful one because my arm was in a plaster cast. He said "Will you still be able to play?"....I said "Yeah...hang on, how do you know?" and he replied that he could just tell. Nice memory. I've liked Ralph since I ws a small child.
Great video. I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight may be my favorite album of all time, love it so much. It has such a timeless feel and I love the melancholic mood of the album. It's heartwarming and depressing in equal measure.
Other great, and mostly under-rated, British folk artists: Spriguns, Spyro Gyra, Bread Love & Dreams, Duncan Browne, Vashti Bunyan, Martin Carthy, C.O.B., Comus, Dr Strangely Strange, Dulcimer, East Of Eden, Eclection, Fresh Maggots, Dick Gaughan, Gordon Giltrap, Roy Harper, Annie Haslam, Tim Hollier, Heron, Alan Hull, Hedgehog Pie, Nic Jones, Wizz Jones, Ian Matthews/Plainsong/Southern Comfort, McGuinness Flint, Mellow Candle, David McWilliams, John Renbourn, Mr Fox, Tom Newman, Renaissance, Strawbs, June Tabor, Mick Softley, Bridget St John, Bob Theil, Tir Na Nog, Tudor Lodge, The Watersons. My favourite Ralph McTell LP is 'Not Till Tomorrow', because it showcases his great guitar skills.
I love those Trees albums, i just got the 'decal' reissues. On the Shore is probably the better one. Murdoch is such a great tune, with that rolling bass line. You are right about the artwork, anything by Hipgnosis is normally pretty good, but this has to be one of the best.

Fantastic video! Many thanks for the recommendations, I'll be sure to keep a lookout for these bands. But why no mention of Jethro Tull?

@ryanrocks84 He was not a member of the band but had them backing him on his solo album. I'll bet it's good. Do you have it on vinyl?

@KoolRanchDressing That's a great description of it!
@GeorgeLupine3 Cool and thanks for the info on Flairck!
@ryanrocks84 Just having a copy on vinyl is pretty cool!
@ROBERTyay That term is appropriate. Lots of great music.
