Powerful and impressive play by Sindarov. He got the initiative early, and kept it right through to the final move, rather than worrying about material.

That last move was a scorcher...I'd be quite proud of that game! Love a nice king tidy move when appropriate...and only 19!

And to think that Sindarov only got into this tournament due to Anand's withdrawal (and even that is seemingly due to Anand's allegiance with FIDE). Stunning game and great coverage!

I enjoy playing freestyle chess more than classical, personally. I hope (and think) this format will continue to grow and flourish. With Carlsen at the forefront, it likely will.

Mr. King, as much as I would like to know your views about the politics of chess, I am glad you focus on the chess we love and not get caught up in all the endless rounds of debate and controversy.

this format is very promising, shame on FIDE for their behaviour

Many thanks, how do you castle if both rooks are on the same side of the board, say A1 and B1?

That setup is not allowed. The King must be between the rooks, and the bishops must be on opposite colors.

That's not allowed - it's required that the king be between the two rooks. So you could have Rooks on A1 and C1 in which the case the king has to be on B1 but good question.

Not too often do you see Magnus get positionally crushed. Nice game by Sindarov. I honestly have no idea what Magnus was going for in the opening. That's 960 I guess, no one knows what is going on in the opening. Even former world champions and maybe current ones too. I see Gukesh didn't win a game today, 4 draws. Interesting format.

Granted, Magnus played rather provocative, starting with his first move. Which this time backfired; he never got into the game. Opening the position with e2-e4 , without any real coordination, was too much for his position.
