Do you guys still have any interest in vpin from AG or A1up, or was it just a fad?
I definitely am, just don't have the room... if I did, I'd certainly buy an ALP, which is currently on sale at my local Sam's Club for $399. That's a pretty damn good deal, IMO.
It's a fantastic deal, it really is.
Digital pinball is here to stay IMO. New IP will always be appreciated and at some point more real world table licenses will come hopefully too. If not the new IP and current library have me a fan and user for life.
Couldn't agree more - it's already very fun - in the future it might actually be better than "real" pinball. Making a state-of-the-art 4K table right now, and even if you only use Zen tables, it's pretty amazing.
@@evilgeniusentertainment Physical pinball machines require to much upkeep/repairs, so I agree virtual is the king of the future. Not to mention, they’re EXPENSIVE 😳
Also when you own a real pinball machine there is always maintenance to be done on it. That cost adds up.
It sure does - but more than that, you will need it done at some point, and if there's no tech locally you have a machine you can't play. It's the biggest negative by far of owning real pinball....
Pulled the trigger/plunger on ALP today. On sale for $400 at Sam's Club with $5 shipping!
That's a good deal for sure. It's a great way to get into vpin without spending a fortune!
Love the review of anything Pinball! Thanks for this!
Thank you so much Mark! And thanks for the buy me a coffee donations! It means a lot to us!
No mention of OTG...one of the biggest features as mentioned. While you quickly mention it, I think that was gloss over.....having this just opens the whole world of Virtual Pin and makes this machine that much more valuable. With that said, great video!
Thanks Telli! I also tend to ignore it b/c I don't think most people would use the function, cool as it is, as it does require some heavy duty modding if you don't want exposed cords/computer... That said, P'Dubs new video on installing a bigger back glass that comes all pre-drilled w/ pictures of how to connect everything might change that a bit....
@@evilgeniusentertainment you plug a cord into your computer...not much modding needed. most of us dont even put pc in the cab. I think you under estimate how many use a pc with thier ALP.
Heck just look at the comments that mention it.
PS New SUB!
Telli - thank you for subbing! Means a lot to us here at the channel! And well heck, I might be totally wrong about the appeal of using a PC w/the ALP. Me thinks I sense a new topic for an episode.....
@@tellismensmentalhealth I just bought one, my USB 3.0 male a to male a won't connect to the PC and atgames pinball. Evidently it's very picky and can be a pain. Makes me almost regret getting it. It's not as easy as just plugging a cable in. Mine still isn't working. I had to order more USB cables to try.
In addition to no mention of OTG, you said you'd compare this to a 4K table and never made any comparison. I appreciate what you presented, but I don't even own one (yet) and can tell this isn't the review you said it was in the beginning. This review is for people who buy the machine, and only want to load tables from the single vendor. If you are that person, this is the review for you. If you want to play tables from other sources - YOU CAN! You need a PC with a decent GPU and a little technical smarts, and you can do it. Just don't think you are limited to what is in the AT games store because of what you see in this review. You aren't.
I'm definitely still satisfied with it. I found hooking a computer up for other tables more annoying and cumbersome than it's worth. Need usb pinball to happen! I hope they make a second model without better solenoids and overall vibrations. Maybe get the tables to be native 3d too. If that's even possible.
Agree 100% - for the money & considering the other options, it remains one of the great deals in home arcades. And I agree about AG putting out a "pro" table, hopefully 4K. I know several pinball freaks, and even though they all prefer the real thing, all acknowledge the place of vpin.
Picked mine up for the Sams Club deal, can't wait to get it. Looking forward to your mod video! Also with a PC hooked up you can indeed play all those "hot" tables you mentioned through the various vpin options there.
Thanks! Working on ALP mod video today in fact... gotta get that bass kicking!
I think people need to know that these have 60hz screens, and yes it works, but vpin is so much better with a faster refresh rate. I used to knock the looks but the AT games pinball has grown on me a bit.
Yup, 60hz screens - which is the standard in the sub-$1000 market. To jump up to 120hz, you'd either have to build your own or drop $2000 plus at a place like King Pinball, so a little apples/oranges. 2nd, and really most importantly, even 4K vpin is still a simulacrum - physics still not quite there and the perspective doesn't move. It's closer but still not the "real" thing (plenty of fun though, and there are some amazing 4K cabs out there).
I was really tempted to get the ALP (Still am actually) but I am glad I opted for my own wonky setup. 32" LG 165Hz 1440p monitor really makes a big difference. Paired with a 24" Acer monitor for the backglass. An HP TG01 with a 1660 Super to run everything and a Legends Game Pro for the controls. About $1200 total. No haptic feedback, but it isn't really noticeable.
The inability to change out screens is the one big negative about buying the ALP - essentially makes doing the biggest improvement you cab do impossible. Again, for the money, the ALP is amazing. But it is frustrating that you can't change out that screen....
They need to release Williams and Stern tables for this!
Williams likely locked up by A1up, but Stern - who's still making new pins - would be quite a snag.
Ability to play Funhouse on this? Pinball fanatic, but want to know options for expanding the table library.
As far as I know there's 2 - buy them from AG's on-line store, or run a PC.
I was going to mention the OTG but I see in comments I am late..lol great video though
I'm going to do a OTG video just to spite myself.
I thought you said you were gonna compare it to 4K vp machines? Did I miss it?
I just picked one up this week on a deal. I already have a widebody VPin but I want something smaller for the kids. I'm sure I'm going to immediately mod it with Popper
It's a good size for kids... but the clunky UI makes it a little unwieldy for them, depending on their ages. If only it were a wee bit more user friendly....
Thanks for the awesome conent!
Hey, thanks for watching!
Just ordered one for $399!!!
Thanks for watching - that's a pretty great deal. I have a ALP mod video coming out later this week you might want to check out... Let us know how you like it!
!!!!!! Attention - If you are are considering buying this - Do what I just did - Need to get this out there. Sams Club has this for 399. Get a discount membership for 20 bux you can cancel anytime. Shipping is 17 bux. is delivered in 7 days ... Total was 440. You can not find better deal - I pulled the trigger ... lets hope it stands up to the hype .. :) Pass the word -
Surprised this sale is still going on, but those on the fence it might be a good time to jump in. It's worth $400, definitely.
I got mine for $240 from Sam's.
Wow - that's amazing. The legs alone are worth at least $50....
They should get some slots or verticle shmups on there
You can get a vertical coinops X builds, but yeah - It would be nice to see some specific vertical titles direct from AG.
You did not mention OTG mode and the fact that you can play the Nintendo Switch via OTG, therefore can also play Williams pinball and some Stern pins.
To be fair, I do mention there are many ways to play non-AG games, including using a PC. But sure - the ALP's flexibility (combined with a lack of same from A1up) is a big part of the reason why this cab remains king of the v-pin hill.
Wait what? You can hook up a Switch to this?
You can use any game system as long as it has HDMI... BUT, only the monitor. Essentially you'd just be using the ALU like any other TV by plugging into 1 of the HDMI inputs. Because the shooting games only really need the "gun" it's not a bad setup for the wii. I think I'm going to show a mode replacing the OG screen with a 32" for a better wii experience.... hope that helps!
One area where AtGames needs to improve is the backbox. They need a monitor in the backbox that takes up the entire width of the box. I finally saw one of these in person, and the existing backbox is too small for me to read, even after I set it to fill the whole screen. It's got to be much larger, and it's why I passed on this cabinet. Found out the GameRoomSolutions backbox mod only works with external PC based playing, not for the internal games. Thanks for sharing this.
Hey TG, good to hear from you again! The biggest thing AG can do to add life span to the ALU 1.1 and the ALP is come out with a way to change out the stock monitors. Right now, far as I know, there's no way to change out either (you can change out the ALU 1.0 - doing a video on that soon). GRS and buystuff make some very nice things, don't they?
Backbox 2.0 from buystuff arcades solves this issue and its plug and play. Between that and Phil Ellis, +VIBS board and PC Adam's family and Mandalorean are possible. Hope this helps!
@@Robbie_Ukule_Lee Thanks. Will look into that. :)
@@ThomasGrillo my BB11 is on order adn when it installs I would be happy to send you some pictures.
Fyi you have every table ever made available for this. Just not on their goofy store.
Good review but virtual pinball is absolutely real pinball to people who can't afford/ have the space or luxury for an actual real pinball or have a "pinball parlor" in their town.
Vpin is pinball for the people.
Was looking at this game for my hang out shack in the backyard. How does it handle running in a unheated or non air conditioned enviroment?
That pretty well describes my shack, and I'd say it has held up well. During really humid days during summer, the side art on the left side of the back box pealed up a bit, but no big deal to re-apply. When it drops into the teens, I do put on a radiator-style electric heater to make sure the LCD screens on all my games don't crack or whatever. One time it was so cold that one of my partycade's screen didn't turn on until I warmed it up, but other than that, other than that, I haven't any issues with any of my games that are weather-related (a few have been pooped on by birds though)
They also dropped the ball big time by not using solenoids for the flippers. Absolutely no haptic feedback whatsoever.
Solenoids were going to be an optional buy later on... but obviously, it never happened. It'll be interesting if there's solenoids in the new 4K model.
@@evilgeniusentertainment Seeing that they're going to the effort of producing a 4K model which will be in a $1,300+ price range I could only assume they'll go with solenoids.
I got one of these just lately and the back glass won't come on. I plugged the cable in like it shows in the instructions. The back glass setting is on also. What is wrong?
Possibly the wires connecting to the backglass are in backwards? It's pretty easy to do in gen 1 machines if I remember right...
@@evilgeniusentertainment I'll try removing them and check. Thanks for the reply.
No problem with the wires. Looks like I am stuck with a lemon. Just my luck.
I'd reach out to AG, even if you got the game used. Does the monitor power up? Maybe a bad power supply (that's happened on a A1up game I bought used).
@@evilgeniusentertainment It's brand new. The games work fine. Just nothing from the backglass. Plugged the black plastic cable ends together and the ribbon cable is connected too.
I have one. The user interface is really awful. It prevents me from playing it, to be honest. It would be a good for kids set on a single game, but the nudge buttons tilt it pretty quick. I'm considering gutting it and installing popper with on an old PC.
pretty much the same for me - if guests are coming over, I'll set up a single game. UI way too difficult to master if kids are playing. I've thought about doing a total mod too, but have ruled it out (I have an upcoming video explaining why....)
Oof! $700 I just got this for $240 from samsclub 😂
That's an insanely good price for the ALP!
Woah, lowest they had it for me was $399. God deal!
I just got this for $240 as well!
Yup, still a good deal!
I got it free, as a gift. I win! 😂
