You don't need to, but he likes to keep things clean like I do. When you take the oil filter off, it will drip all over the grate. Take it off and the oil coming from the filter will go right in a 5 gallon bucket and not all over.
What’s the part number on that oil filter? Did you get it from the dealer or found it online? I just bought sy35u but my dealer is 200 mile drive and I’ll doing the oil change myself.
Overall I think it stands up to a yanmar or kubota. Comes with a great warranty. It’s got enough power. Seems pretty quiet. Still only have about 55 hrs on it. It doesn’t track fast but then again it’s not a dozer or a skid. I like it

Yanmar oil filter 129150-35170. I bought mine at the dealership but maybe do a search online
