At what point do you teach about single hand reins(neck reining)? I usually only use a light hold and guide one handed most of my directions are in my legs.
Is the two hand method during training and then you teach the horse neck reining or do you cover that later on?

That is a great question Sarah! You can reach Richard through his website for this specific question at www.wintersranch.com/contact-us.html :-)

The only term he got correct was supporting or neck rein.

Some "curious" things in the vid -- though many do it -- at 2:12 using the "indirect" rein is pulling the horse around? That doesn't make sense. That would be the "direct" rein. The indirect (right) is doing nothing except stopping the hindquarters from moving. Interesting how the horse falls on the forehand, both feet in the ground to twist the hindquarters around. There is concussion/pressure now on those joints. The horse is now disunited. I dunno. The idea of "disengaging" the hindquarters never made sense when Ray Hunt was doing it and it still doesn't make sense. Not being argumentative, just the explanations don't match what the horse is doing. All the western trainers do this because in one way or another they all followed Ray Hunt. Too many focus too much on the head and too little on riding.

It sounds as though you never understood what Ray was discussing.
