This is one of the best ones. Imagine being dropped off in a foreign nation in the middle of the night, unaware if you will be immediately killed. Guy has a set of stones on him. Thank you for your service.
Amazing ‘first casualty’ was an excellent read but Hearing JR talk about the work he did is just exceptional to hear. Legend. Thanks guys love the channel.
JR is a first class man! Intelligent, thoughtful, and always willing to listen but decisive. Very effective officer. I worked for him from 2006-2008, when he sadly retired.
Incredible show. So good to hear a guest praised by other guests in their books. And then by the end of this show, you see how many books and content JR has gotten out in print. Incredible guests, on this channel, and this just explains in depth how good our US govt really is, and your guests are why.
Knew JR's younger brother from that small town near Buffalo. Probably last saw JR when he was in his 20's and remember always thinking he was one of the most interesting guys in the world. He was so cool.
Want to thank you 😊 for taking the time to put this interview together. Actually gives me a chance to live through you while you share your stories. I love ❤️ the C.I.A.
Excellent speaker , solid coherent and really interesting. It’s great to peel back the vale of secrecy and Hollywood BS and see how savvy and driven these Americans are. And I love the Spy Thrillers cover behind him. Cheers
Another excellent show guys. JR is a first date guest. I've actually read a couple of the Mike 4 books, I had no clue about the other one. I will definitely check it out
Always interesting to get the actual story, facts, etc. directly from the horse's mouth. Much appreciated. Just saying as a Canadian, not quite sure we would be getting this sort of detail about Afghanistan. Even from the British. You Americans have a way of talking about things. You know, the good, the bad and the ugly. Keep up the good work.
For those interested in the historic aspect; Sir Rich Burton’s The Devil Drives and Trip to Medina is an excellent insight into Victorian era. Also the fictional Flashman series has lots of historical footnotes
Saw an interview a few years ago of Walid Al Hajj, Sudanese AQ fighter and one of the prisoners in Qala i Jangi, with Egyptian journalist Ahmed Mansour, in Arabic. He said the reason why the prisoners revolted was because of the way the 2 Americans, Spann and Tyson, were treating them. Basically they were playing bad cop bad cop in a situation where they should have at least been good cop good cop. No 5D chess master deceit plan. Spann and Tyson messed up. Another interesting thing Al Hajj said was that he was introduced to jihad in Afghanistan by a Saudi who organized everything for him and Al Hajj mainly did it for money. Funny all these Saudi and Pakistani ISI connections to AQ yet the CIA never followed those leads I wonder why….
This interview spurred me to your $10 Patreon. You turned on the starter and he ran well, offering an organized discussion. ( PS- at about age 60 and into 1990's and post 9/11, I tried to enlist as an urban-no extraction sniper. I had a colonel who tried to explain me and my worth supporting (urban, out to 1000 yards with MY rifle and scopes as an inexpensive but effective killer) Army or Marines to supply my choice of non-issue ammunition, but understanding I was expendable.) I am 77 now and still want to go where needed. Now, at my age, my ending my life is not a problem-Kipling and I can still hide , shoot and invisibly move. I understand that role in my conscience.
I am thankful that men like JR are willing to take such incredible risks for the rest of us. My main question is - If JR were trying to convince a future statesman to use these methods (early insertion of paramilitary types) what would be his strongest argument for a return to this type of mission - given the risk, payoff, and the ultimate outcome of the war?
Its interesting. I saw the previous video with the CIA guy on the find osama bin laden mission. Both he and this guy seem very sane and normal. It's hard to reconcile the CIA's reputation for skullduggery and the normal people who work there. Great video.
Hey Im a little late listening .. awesome story, awesome human .. however, the famous Texas Ranger was Frank Hamer who was dispatched to Borger Texas .. years later he actually led the group that killed Bonnie and Clyde .. Peace my friend ..
After 9/11, the only passenger plane to fly was Binladen's family leaving the USA. Why? Wasn't there some questioning to be done there, a little bit of info on his whereabouts?? That was a dumb decision to let them fly away. This was a Slap in the Face of Every American, after what had just happened.
Great interview, maybe my favorite so far. JR, you are a badass, thank you for your service. Side note question. Why are the standards for hiding porn star faces (fully hidden or pixilated) higher than hiding sensitive / under cover CIA faces (with just the eyes blacked out)? Looks oks like just about blown cover to me.
Arrest? Whats needed is a Double OO clearance to double-tap bad actors whenever possible,..not fucking Arresting them. This would stop a lot shit from happening .
You know this guy is right. When he said there are no afghans and that is exactly what Americans don't understand. We are a nation and have national ties and pride. Other countries are just line drawn on a map by someone else.thats is exactly why when we try ti nation build hat it always fails in certain parts of the world is because ee dint understand that they are different culturally and don't think like we do and don't see themselves as belonging to a nation but tribes and so on. what im about to say proves my point. Around 2014 or so i worked at a place where i met a guy from Around there and when i asked him were was he from and what was he he said everything but Afghanistan. He was a kurd. I tried for days to find what i though was a country that he said he was from and finally gave up because i knew that my bosses tood me he was from Afghanistan. It wasn't yntil years later thatni finally understood with a lil more research.
Everyone in the trade knows Billy Waugh! How could you not - he has been everywhere and done just about everything. He is a no foolin’ cool guy. Honestly, one of many for his generation who were admired by my generation.
Is the lie not a slave of the truth? Is the lie not constantly maintained to appear as the truth? Is the path not a slave of the way? Is the path not constantly maintained to appear as the way? Do not the lie and the path eventually exhaust, and does not the truth, and the way remain? Draw the curtains back on absorbent gazes, to ponder the shadows, and reason the blaze. Step by step venture towards, sometimes convex, and sometimes forwards. Just as fire once lead astray, now the path gives to the way.- DW

Nice headphones. I had those 7 years after I beat Police Quest 4. What kind of CIA guy has headphones like that? Love the show guys. I'll be playing Flight Simulator 3.0 with Jason Bourne over here.
99% of these guys just follow orders even if those orders come from degenerate morons blinded by power and greed and tasked with maintaining tHeir dynasties.
This came on while i was sleeping and all respect goes out to this man, but he sounds A LOT like B.Obama and my dream QUICKLY took a turn for the worst ... I will leave it at that.
Please try and get him back for a round two. This is my favorite episode of any podcast I've ever listened to.
This is one of the best ones. Imagine being dropped off in a foreign nation in the middle of the night, unaware if you will be immediately killed. Guy has a set of stones on him. Thank you for your service.

I am loving a focus on this espionage genre. It's motivating to listen to the men who fight in the dark and care not about recognition.
The "author" and podcast guest doesn't want recognition?
@@58brandt ah quit being a dick. They served in silence for their entire career.
Amazing ‘first casualty’ was an excellent read but Hearing JR talk about the work he did is just exceptional to hear. Legend. Thanks guys love the channel.
"i am not a cool guy" proceeds to talk about infilling into afgan first.
Great podcast. Thank you.

There are so many gems on Team House.
This is the first place I ever heard of SOT-A’s, (not this episode). Reaction, “holy shit, that’s the job!”
I had confused SOT-A with ASOT lol.
JR is a legend. Very humble man.
Knew JR's younger brother from that small town near Buffalo. Probably last saw JR when he was in his 20's and remember always thinking he was one of the most interesting guys in the world. He was so cool.
Great to see you two are still going strong. 153 episodes!! And to think of my measly contribution at episode 25. You're getting better and better!
Your contribution was one of the factors that got us here, Ron.
Want to thank you 😊 for taking the time to put this interview together.
Actually gives me a chance to live through you while you share your stories.
I love ❤️ the C.I.A.
Great interview guys! I love hearing from all the different Agency folks. Amazing stories !
Keep up the good work!😎
Much more than "a mere wretch and federal pensioner" for sure! Fascinating show and would love to see JR on again. Once again The Team House delivers!
A wise and brave man! His anecdotes have real depth and great value🗽
One of your best guests so far. J.R. is a great storyteller and fun to listen to. Love his self-deprecating style 😂
Excellent speaker , solid coherent and really interesting. It’s great to peel back the vale of secrecy and Hollywood BS and see how savvy and driven these Americans are.
And I love the Spy Thrillers cover behind him. Cheers
This dude is such a legend.
Another excellent show guys. JR is a first date guest. I've actually read a couple of the Mike 4 books, I had no clue about the other one. I will definitely check it out
I've meet JR on several occasions, total legend Bro👍
Jack has the best introductions in the biz, it's a lyrical drum roll.
Always interesting to get the actual story, facts, etc. directly from the horse's mouth. Much appreciated.

Fascinating. Great interview
"I'm a better handler, I can squeeze intelligence out of anyone."
I've got a bunch of elementary school teachers that would disagree...
This should be a movie...
Just found this channel , OUTSTANDING CONTENT.

Had em on payroll or was having business with whe the leads led to or the leads couldve been CIs
This job is interesting and demanding indeed. Gathering information and acquiring knowledge, while defending the State.

This guy took out alot of people. I'd love to have worked with him
I wish I couldve asked if JR is the GB operator with call sign "The Wolf" and "Spider" in Naylors book on Anaconda
You wanna talk about guys who did dirt to keep America safe?.. these are the guys you're talking about
Is this "RJ" from the book Jawbreaker who is Mazar-E Shariff?
Brilliant PSYOP, Find communalities and exploit. It seems the origins of my old unit, 536th En BN, have some common roots in history here😊
Fantastic intervju so so interesting... keep up the good work 👍
you need to get david tyson on the podcast
He coming in June

Bin laden wasn’t responsible for 9/11 CIA needed to put a face on it
I’m enjoying the espionage talks. It would be awesome to hear from a CIA operative from The Vietnam war!
What’s a btk?
Man, this dude is the coolest MF’er on the planet
that college sounds cool

Thank you !
cia paramilitary is a badass job wish I could’ve went
It's unfortunate, but every time I hear "BTK" I think of Dennis Rader.
If you had to draw a CIA agent...it would look like him
I watched a couple spook pieces and now my algorithm is SACing me with spy stuff
Does he know Scott Seeger?
that Eisenhower school would have been exactly right for me. Damn
Merry Christmas to the Spies in the chat 🫡💯🇺🇸

He definitely does, Waugh arrived in Afghanistan shortly after JR in 2001.
@@johnseeger9083 Not know of him but personally know him.
Sucks Billy was never on here

i failed the CIA ENTRANCE TEST. I KEPT TELLING THE TRUTH
Lame
Or maybe it was something else
When jr was with the cia, what was his gov grade? Was he a Gs-12 or higher?
He was a GS-15 - equivalent of a full bird Colonel
Yeah like Justin’s selection to the team wasn’t based on his dad at all 😂
Boss!
