but the title and the thumbnail sucks; it's 3am and I clicked it out of curiosity, and even though I saw an interview with them before, so I had the idea of this device burried somewhere in my mind, for the first couple of seconds I was expecting a gizmo for stargazers.
If you get this 5g/cell certified and can make calls, texts, and run signal, then you have a HUGE market disruptor! Linux based, repairable, privacy oriented phones.
I don't think this really disrupts the market though. It's cool but what market does this disrupt? Definitely not the mobile market. Very cool looking product though.
@@farhanhubble they can easily make this via either SIM modules or UBLOX modules, very easy to integrate those. But pretty much everything Cell related is proprietary so idk about privacy.
@josephdipietro8937 arguably yes. But much more open, repairable and versatile. I saw a price of 159 in the comments. Which is not that expensive in my opinion
@@SRC267what are you plans for wireless receives, transmitters and other connections than the keyboard one? This looks like it could be a much better version of m5 cardputer
If this becomes a thing, I am in! Exquisite industrial design. Great for keeping a phone for just what it is supposed to do. Excellent stuff. Get the pricing and the distribution right. Even a premium is acceptable for this. Make it happen. Fantastic product, much needed in present scenario.
This team just gets it! It's been a while since i saw an ad/ marketing material that's so consistent with the design choices and aspirations of what product the company is selling and is yet so classy. Love the whole retro futuristic style reimagined and also, kudos to you for getting a bit of a luddite person like me interested in smartphones once again.
While I'm almost definitely going to pick one up as-is, a variant with a 4g or 5g modem (especially if we could have call/sms support) would be something I would go absolutely nuts for
Great job on managing project requirements and scope. IMO this first release really hits the sweet spot for initial release. Congratulations on a great release and product!
This is the new wave and future of mobile devices, handheld form factor… I’m expecting great things from this company and look forward to their products when it’s finished and ready for launch ❤🎉👌
Cool device. I love that the terminal is a shortcut. I can see myself writing my own scripts to display my own widgets. If you ever support cellular service, I’ll replace my phone with this.
This is one of the neatest things I have seen come out in some time! Dont know what im using this for but im really excited to see what the community makes of it. So open source and full of potential!
My main complaint would be that the keyboard is on the narrow end of the device, but with it being swappable I could easily make my own and have a funky, upside-down T shaped device with a wide keyboard. Truly customisable and flexible to the user's specific and personal needs!
imagine the endless possibilities with it for me I am a photographer whenever I am out for the mountains for week long adventure hiking 10-12 Km daily at 4000m altitude Caring a laptop just to transfer photos from camera to ssd is really, I can use it to transfer photos, or someone who really likes to listen high quality music If a HI-FI audio module with 3.5mm and 4.5mm jack or maybe a hi-end audio recorder,
Great inspiration! - have the 2nd Gen of the Gnarbox for my video and photo stuff, which is really good, but the vendor went down 1 or 2 years ago without notice. This could absolutely replace it! Now let‘s go and give people the opportunity to offer pre-composed install-packages!-)
The module section need more depth/recession otherwise it would feel uncomfortable to hold bulged up input modules, adding scroll wheel on side much help and feel fun to use too.
Very cool project. I would suggest putting LoRa radio chip inside. You could interface with off-grid messaging systems like Meshtastic or even large IoT networks like Helium or control other devices with this type of radio directly (drones, robots, sensors and various effectors). I don't think this needs 5G as 4G is probably more than enough for device of this caliber, more cost effective too. After all this is not meant to replace a modern smartphone. This is a tool for technicians, makers and people that would like to show proverbial middle finger to our corporate overlords ;)
Mecha i know nothing about you or your company, but if you can bring this render to life without any major compromise you will build a very nice community and with a product like this i hope you can also work with the community and their suggestions for modules. Or providing and encouraging a way for people to make their custom modules. This could be the start to something beautiful. Im looking forward to see how this pans out.
For your SEO team: this is way better than any pushed ad, i appreciate it showing up organically.

Truth
Wonder if there are any third party cellular boards that are pre-1:00 certified?
Also add that the battery life has to be decent. A day would be nice.
