    Wow the tissues were a shock. As someone with severe allergies who has a tissue box in every room in the house (even in the kitchen!), it's hard to imagine a reality where someone wouldn't need them 😂 I love how we each adapt these lists to our own needs and lifestyles!

    DVDs and Blu-ray’s are essential for preserving old or out of print films. Not everything is streaming online and even those are not forever. A disk is, tho.

    What I most appreciate about your list is that you know who you are, what you like, what you'll follow through with and you're good with that. So many times we buy and do things because others are. That's why I love minimalism. A big part of it is knowing who you are and getting rid of what isn't the real you, right now, today.

    • @MiaDanielle
      @MiaDanielle  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well said! I've been working on the topic "Minimalism isn't what you think" and I think a lot of people think we just fall in the same carbon copy box... which we don't. We might have similar values, but minimalism isn't about being the same-- like you said, it allows you to get rid of what isn't the real you!
      Thanks for sharing!

    I have a tablet that is so old I can't even update a lot of apps, (or even the operating system, I don't think) anymore. Some apps aren't even compatible anymore so I deleted them. I mostly use it for ebooks at this point and will probably replace it for that reason, but the Libby app still works so I'm not doing it yet.
    I agree with you on hair stuff. My hairdresser doesn't even ask if I want hairspray anymore because I always say no. Whatever she does use before blow drying it I almost always wash out before I go to bed because I hate the way it feels by the end of the day.

  • @Conval-wi5eh
    @Conval-wi5eh ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great suggestions you made here Mia! I love to hear what people can live without and why.
    I'm totally with you on the cleaning supplies. You can easily get by with only five, for some people it might even be less. I usually use dish soap and vinegar, sometimes I need a little soda. The only special cleaning supply I use is a cleanerfor glass. I use it for mirrors, window and screens.
    I didn't get the hype about tablets either. For me, they feel redundant. I much rather use my laptop.
    I don't have a blowdryer. I wash my hair in the evening and let it dry. It often takes two hours, because I have thick and long hair, but I hate the loud sound of a blowdryer and I would be bored big time if I had to blow dry my hair for 20 minutes straight.
    We also don't have a dryer for our clothes. It's not common to have a dryer in Germany, especially when you live in an appartment, even though the clothes need two days to dry during the winter. I just hang our clothes and let them dry. I find it less overwhelming to put clothes away when they are hung instead of a giant ball I pull out of the dryer. It saves a lot of energy and electricity.
    Additionally I don't use any streaming service. I am not into films and get bored after a couple episodes of any series. I just read books or watch something here on TH-cam if I want to consume some media. Otherwise I go for a walk, do some voulnteer work or meet up with friends and family. I don't have a service for music, either.

I don't know if you mentioned it or not, but I don't subscribe to hard-copy magazines or newspapers either. I don't buy lottery tickets, except occasionally for charity. I have hand lotion in every room. I’m obsessive about lotion as I can’t wash my hands without it. I wonder if you had better nails while you were pregnant because of the prenatal vitamins so maybe taking extra vitamins would help. I have also tried the bamboo face rounds but find I use a lot more product on them than the cotton. Seriously want to try a metal razor myself but I did swap to an electric razor, I have plenty of jewelry so there isn't as deep a need or want, and for water, I want to start carrying a metal water bottle (eventually collect rainwater). We don't need cable. We've survived without before because it's definitely not necessary. I'm trying to convince the parents because it's weighing on their finances more than the apps they use for streaming. We reuse holiday decor. Almost everything on that list I never get anyway and never understood.

  • @keithb4077
    @keithb4077 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I'd like to hear deeper reasoning into why we don't buy certain things any more. Some of it is just conditioning. It's likely that you didn't make a strategic or philosophical choice to no longer buy physical media. But like 99% of other consumers, we find ourselves just conveniently taking the constant offers of streaming. I don't think we should surrender previous or traditional means of doing things, simply because they aren't 'new'. Sometimes the convenient new item or service comes with a significant loss in quality, reliability, or more importantly- freedom/privacy. "Free" apps are a great example of this.
    It's understandable why most people wouldn't shop for new physical media- but think twice about releasing what you already own. There is more freedom and lasting value there than you may think.

    • @Goaltimer
      @Goaltimer ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Aren't these pictures frames in your background? I own two picture frames, one i had for years the other one I bought recently and I'm on the fence with getting rid of it again. I like bare walls. Do you also have your walls bare or what do you use for decorating if not art in frames? Thanks ❤

    • @MiaDanielle
      @MiaDanielle  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question- and call out! The difference to me is that I have intentionally chosen a back drop that I love for some art and that it's been there for several years that I don't swap out multiple times a year based on the season. They're just there, all the time!
      AND with that, I don't buy the frames for actual photos. It's the buying frames specifically for photos that stopped making sense to me (how can I just pick the one to display, and will I now need 20+ frames in my small condo to display the ones I love?😅)
      Hope that helps clarify!

      @@MiaDanielle thanks for an honest answer to an honest question. In my mind frames for art and for pictures was all the same. Also, for me I like to display my fotos similarly as art. So they are art to me, although very personalized. How do I pick and choose the pictures? I chose those that are aesthetically the most pleasing and fit in the color scheme of my room. I don't display pictures for sentimental purposes, that's too personal to me and depends too much on my mood if I want to see them on a given day.

    Oh wow the same so far! I never buy razors. I use my epilady if i can be bothered, but otherwise I just have hair - no biggie. Never buy water. The water where i live is artesian so we drink out of the tap. Nails - I hate manicures because I like to be able to use my hands for knitting and typing. Jewelry I hate. I don't even bother with my wedding and engagement ring as I got fat and never got round to resizing. Weve been married for 20 years and pretty sure we don't need to be wearing the wedding rings all the time to remind us. Id never heard of travel toiletries. Seems like such a waste of plastic! I have office supplies that ive had for years. I used to like nice stationery but my favourite store closed down (Kiki K) so sad 😞 no exercise machines or equipment as i have no car and walk everywhere. Party gear we bought some that we reuse too. No to holiday decor. I think that's a North American thing. No cotton rounds as don't bother with make up. Oh yes hate perfume! I prefer fresh air 😊 i really want to buy a printer! That's the one thing i disagree on. Ours died and ive had to get so much stuff printed down the road. It's so annoying. Oh handbags - no way! I love backpacks as hands free ☺️ i like getting a fridge magnet or patch from travels. Argh yes no for hairstuff and hairdryer (just use a towel to dry my hair) and straightener (sold mine as only used once in 15 years and hurt my arms to hold it for ages). Yes! We love that versatile glass stuff! We can't use teflon pans as we have pet birds ( budgies/parakeets) and the fumes kill them. We got Green Pan and love it. I keep thinking fancy cleaning tools will make my home tify but they rrally don't! Agree re dispoable cutlery and plates - bad for the planet! Yup only buy clothes that are easy care too. I may buy a new pillow sometime as have had mine for years. Never buy tissues! I use little mini cotton facecloths (reusable nappy wipes) and they're amazing on a runny nose! So soft! Kleenex is horrible! It's rubbing paper on a sensitive nose! No to eyelashes and brows. I tweeze the middle of my eyebrows but that's it. Fun going through this list with you😊

    Your eyebrows could use a little nicer shape, they seem really thin, but I kind of get it is a hassle to pay to get them done. I am working on my brows too.

      I like that there are different eyebrows shapes on different people. Social Media and advertisement makes us think everyone should try and match some shape that's supposedly ideal or trendy right now, I find it extremely boring and irritating to the point I struggle to tell actresses apart when watching a movie - sometimes there are three or more blonde woman with age and appearance so similar, it makes it very difficult to follow the plot and understand who's who 😂

      Or you could just hush and keep your comment to yourself? Or is that too hard for you? ;)

      So instead of adding to the conversation you decide to offer your unsolicited advice about such an IRRELEVANT and unrelated subject??? WOW

    I love keeping my hair soft and touchable too, but living in FL it's easily damaged. I switched to coconut oil instead of conditioner and argon oil instead of styling products. Between that and protective styles it completely changed my hair! Figured I'd share Incase someone else can use it. 🫶🏻

      @@MiaDanielle lol yup it is! And funnily enough I just finished explaining to my friend that's why my hair doesn't look greasy: I use way less oil than I ever did conditioner. When you find the right stuff, you need way less than you thought. Goes for everything from hair products to baby clothes 😆
