One "general" question: Why bother calculating the general solution, when the solution y1 already solves the ODE?
because there are infinitely many solutions to the DE, y1 is just a PARTICULAR solution based on initial conditions
let me put in another way: when I have y1 in advance, which solves the ODE (which is what is aimed for), why would I need to go further? All the other infinitely many solutions provided by the general expression are not "better".. or are they?
