- Joni Eareckson Tada’s life was forever changed in an instant at the age of seventeen. A reckless dive into shallow water broke her neck, rendering her young, athletic body a quadriplegic, wheelchair-bound for the rest of her life. It was 5 years ago I last saw you in Hunger Mtn. Co-op. You said then that Sue had been disabled for 7 years . I've been in San Diego for 5 years. Since late August of 2023, I've been friends with Rick, a person with quadriplegia who lives in the same ap't complex as I do. Knowing absolutely nothing about this disability, I decided to see what I could learn from Joni, in addition from Rick. This has been plenty, and also how I saw your comment. I'm a caregiver for a severely disabled husband and I feel so overwhelmed taking care of him whenever I get depressed I listen to you and it helps I wish I could meet both of you someday
God bless you as you stand by your husband. It's a huge blessing to him that he has you. When you get tired and discouraged, and probably sore and achy from the physical challenges that probably come w/ full time caregiving, I hope you take a moment for gratitude that you are walking and moving in ways he can't. I also hope that like Joni does, w/ her husband Ken, that he takes the time to thank you and show gratitude and encouragement to you.

I have a twinless twin baby daugther, her identical twin sister died in my womb at 20 weeks. I loved both of babies the minute I saw them on the ultrasond and I was seeing them almost every weeks because of complications. My surviving daugther is now 9 months and I still mourn her sister. Reading Joni's book and listening to her daily victories over suffering and joy in the "lack of" help me go on... Her testimony is timeless and an exemple to follow. She says: " I will leap of joy in Heaven, my paralysis will be healed. This is temporary." Yes. I will meet my daugther there. Our seperation is temporary.

I love listening to Joni. She is so HUMAN... For many years I always thought of her as being a super saint, someone who walks on water, yet I can hear her humanity. She is so HUMAN like the rest of us who suffer...She is my hero and points me to the HERO of our faith> JESUS!!! xxx
Just remember that while none of us would have chosen a life of disability, that Joni wouldn't have either. Her example is in not letting herself become bitter in her suffering. God has sent her so much help too, and she has chosen to pass that help onto as many others as she can in turn.

How come Joni doesn't talk to Atheists the way she talks to Believers.
That is a good question , but there must be an opening for this! However the house of God must be brought back into order before those outside His house be awakened !

I've often wondered why don't they have Joni there to give her testimony and experience.
I am a street evangelist whose testimony includes much pain & suffering..
such as, many horrible bereavements, including the loss of my mother, (who was a Christian leader,) at age 9...
also have very painful fibromyalgia, & several other very disabling conditions... I frequently share parts of my testimony, eg the way the Lord has lifted, helped, encouraged, healed my heart,... I find that often, even very sceptical people, or those relying on other religions, (such as Eastern ones,) get convicted to take Jesus seriously when they hear the things HE has done for me.. ie HIS work in my life...
It is Pharisaical, self-righteous, proud atheists who dismiss the Lord, as "merely a crutch" or "wishful thinking".
... but our team always pray to be led to the right people.... & find we have amazing Divine appointments
So I would encourage other disabled people to get out there & share their faith/ testimony....
If I'm in pain I can only do an hour at a time, & sometimes just share my faith while sitting down in a café...
The Lord gives us so much grace each day.. We must pass it on to others.
He gives us the words and the courage...
Sometimes I even just start a longterm conversation with shopkeepers I see daily, by saying "God Bless you!" at the end of the transaction...
Then, after doing this 6 or 7 times, I start by asking, "Do you believe there is a God who can bless us? "
Then share a bit of testimony... saying what HE has done for me.
Hope this encourages others to start. 😊
