  • as he lights an American Spirit,
he asks how i can smoke such shit.
i say: "there's nothing like chain-smoking GPC cigarettes, because any smokes will kill ya,
but these will make you feel like it."
i sit back down on the parking lot curb,
    and remember back to february
    and the trip to hartford.
when five minutes ago he was passed out on the staircase,
trying to walk to his apartment
but not making it all the way.
and now he's driving us 100 miles an hour down the interstate,
another beer in his hand and swearing we won't be late.
that was before everyone moved to New Mexico.
they all left a couple of months ago.
    until the day, my friend,
when I sleep on the floor of your van again,
I'll be waiting in this parking lot.
    and in my dreams,
I am dirty, broke, beautiful and free.
my hand clenched in a fist
and my face in a smile,
    after hitching too many miles.
    we aren't revolutionaries,
    but we are the revolution!
    sometimes i think that
the whole movement is just me and you,
and maybe we'd all be better off if that were true.
because then at least we'd know where we stand,
and we could tell our "comrades" apart from "the man".
but if the world isn't that simple,
maybe this town is, at least.
and if i'm not marching with them to war,
i'm sure not marching with you for peace.
    class traitor? what-fucking-ever!
i'm just another middle-class kid, too.
but if i'm not good at changing,
    i'm good at self-loathing,
so i'll class hate myself with you.
may our only occupation be not having a job.
may the only cocktails that we make be molotov.
may that day be now, and for as many days after that as we know how.
it starts in this parking lot.
    and in my dreams,
I am dirty, broke, beautiful and free.
my hand clenched in a fist
and my face in a smile,
    after hitching too many miles.

It really is. It's hard to explain being in a crowd like this with a punk dude singing his heart out. Legendary crowd. RIP Mischief Brew (Electric guitarist)

It's a shame he doesn't Johnny Hobo songs live anymore. I respect that it brings him to a dark place, but they're so beautiful.

+dojima He got sober and stopped being a nihlist. Even before he got sober he started a new band called Wingnut Dishwashers Union that was more focused on cops and politics and stuff than Johnny Hobo was and mostly rejected the songs he wrote for JH...

Non y'all know Teddy LaMotta, but it's cause of him I'm here. In 2016 He came back to town to visit old friends and I couldn't wait to show him that I learned 'Acid Song' on guitar. I wasnt gonna tell him, i was just gonna start playing it and wait for him to realize what i was jammin on and i know he would start singing along with me. He was a busy kid who everyone loved so i wasnt stressing to bad when he wasnt picking up his phone. When we finally got together though it was only so we could lay him to rest. He left to do right, but it only took a short time back in town for the wrong to find him and make sure he couldnt get away again. I dont listen to Johnny hobo anymore cause it hurts far to much when I do, but i fell down a while back and havnt been able to stand back up.. now its cost me my girl of 5 years just as i was getting ready to purpose, my 2 closest friends, and 3 days ago my job. I feel like i dont have much left at this point. Right now im sitting on my floor in my 1 bedroom apartment with my guitar, strumming the crappy songs ive made over the years, suddenly I felt like I could bare to listen to johnny hobo again. I dont know nothin about the band or its members really, but reading the comments it looks like tragity may just be part of Johnny Hobo's spirit. I dont mean that in a bad way, but it almost feels now like johnny hobo and the freight trains reached out and found me broken up and called me back. Im guessing Pat is the lead vocals, can someone fill me in on who Erik is/was, and what happened?
