@@damagecontrol7 Yeah the only thing keeping Good guy strange in the fight was that protection spell. Every time he would have lost you can see the spell defend him.
It was clearly shown in the episode. Good strange had a bunch of protection spells, and we saw that Strange Supreme couldn’t handle a lot of those at the entrance of the library of Cagliostro (or something)
@@matt98785 I mean that didn’t mean he couldn’t handle them, he and strange had the same base abilities because the point at which they diverged was when the ancient one split them. Immediately after the split, bad strange ended up in the library. The protection runes are most likely just high level enough that it would take even a powerful sorcerer a while to brute force through them, especially since the library had hundreds all around plus the boobytrap he fell into meant he didn’t even need to deal with them.
Fun fact the comics version of the watcher(uatu) has actually “interfered” 337+ times and counting

I could imagine that an overarching storyline for What If? will be a build towards Uatu eventually interfering despite the rules.
@@thysens Oh yeah. I'm expecting it to happen eventually. If you think about it, the number of times the Watcher has appeared in a scene has been slowly increasing each episode and getting more detailed. Aside from the fact that you see his actual physical appearance in this one, at the very beginning of the episode you can see his lips move in the shadows while he's towering over the street narrating.

I don't think I will ever forget that line and That conversation between Strange and The Watcher at the end of that episode gave me chills man and to just see Strange crying "I'm sorry" when all the universe is destroyed because of him was heart rending and I was so sure things would work out but it didn't. What if...keeps getting better and better. I never expected an episode like this. It was genuinely scary to see Strange crack to the point where he sacrificed the universe and still never got the one he loved. But like The Watcher sticks to his job description man. He does not interfere. Somebody give the man a raise cause he is doing his job haha. (Me trying to joke because this episode really cracked my mind).
WOW. Way to go Marvel for not being scared to cross the line.

I really don't get people who don't like this series. It's giving us a character deep dive without screwing with the current cinematic timeline. Like, all of these characters ARE the characters we've been watching, just in a different circumstance, so we get to see how they'd behave and feel about different things we'd *never* see in the MCU otherwise. This episode made me like Dr. Strange! We get confirmation that T'Challa is literally just that amazing, no matter the circumstance. Peggy being Cap would have got shit done a hell of a lot sooner! All of these are dope character studies expanding our understanding of the characters, while still being dope af.
Nobody is perfect not even Tchalla Just watch civil war. But that’s what makes him great he understands he could be a better king…..
Yeah, it completely opens up the variety of stories they can tell, without limiting their ability to tell more stories in the future.

That's a different timeline. He lost his hands because that's the most important thing to him in that particular timeline.

This was what a lot of the What If? comics were like just fucking up until pure devastation.

Episode 2: Ego takes Peter to fuel the expansion but T’challa would probably stop him
Episode 3: All the Avengers are dead and Loki has control of the world and Asgardian forces
Episode 4: The whole universe is fricking gone and Strange has to live forever trapped knowing it was his fault
Khan destroyed the universe to bring Regina George back to life 😆

All of the show is confirmed to be canon, so characters that exist in these multiverses have the ability to show up in Multiverse of Madness and other projects. So, the consequences are “real.”
This "consequences" thing is entirely new, and makes no sense. It seems to have been invented to justify hating "Mary Sues" (sidebar: I've yet to hear anybody call T'Challa a "Mary Sue" even though he fits the definition perfectly in episode 2). Basically they're saying they want to restrict the ability of good storytellers to tell them good stories.
This whole episode could literally be the origin story of Mephisto

So as the universe condensed and Strange was left alone with all that power in this jewel looking, pocket universe, I totally thought they were going to say that that entire universe with Strange trapped in it, was the soul stone and that was why you had to give up what you love in order to use it.
They obviously didn’t but I seriously thought that was where they were headed.

Most folks have been constantly saying the most recent episode they saw is the best episode. But they're all very different, and I've enjoyed every one, so I don't think comparing them makes much sense. It's a great show.
My favorite so far
I have no words to describe this episode. It was epic and at the same time heartbreaking to see Strange plunge into madness to the point of wiping out his entire Universe to save Christine.
The other episodes were mildly entertaining, but this one made me feel something. Almost felt like a Twilight Zone episode.

I *love* Peggy Carter and Black Panther, but I can't be the only one who's thinking that these episodes are literally topping themselves each week and getting better than the last.
They dropped sooooo many cosmic/mystical entities. Mephisto, Nightmare, Shou Lao, and Shuma Gorath.

i think shuma gorath showing up in episode 1 and this one confirms he'll be in Multiverse of madness, he resides between universes and is strange's main enemy, almost like shuma gorath is coming more and more into the universe and prehaps something in MoM will unleash him

Dude this ep was the best!
Good catch on the tentacle creature being Lovecraftian inspired. It’s an ancient being in the Marvel Comics based on Lovecraft called Shuma Gorath, its normally feature in the Dr Strange comics and this is its second appearance in What If/MCU. First time we the audience saw it was in the Captain Carter episode.
Shuma-Gorath is way too powerful to be easily defeated by Dr. Strange. In the comics Ancient One had to sacrifice himself to stop Shuma-Gorath from coming to Earth. Strange had to absorb the power of a dark transcendent extra-dimensional entity which amped his powers ridiculously. Even with all that power Strange had to use black magic spell called the Darkness of the Divine Conduit to drain Shuma's power to defeat him.
So i doubt its Shuma-Gorath but rather a Great Old One

@@crunchynapkin71 that’s why he started earlier with lesser beings, and since he was able to hear and notice the Watcher due to reading up on him whist absorbing powerful beings, he’s become close to a comic level threat which would mean he’s at the very least on par with Shuma.
He also didn’t absorb Shuma entirely, he cut off a number of it’s tentacles by dismissing it, he did say he wanted to “borrow” a part of his power

something i kinda thought about, in this he goes back in time to save christine constantly by using the time stone, that's the same thing he did when he was looking at possible futures in infinity war but you know instead of trying to avoid something that's meant to happen he just looked for the best outcome no matter who died
This episode got me speculating big time about the antagonist in DS 2. A lot of people have been theorizing that Scarlet Witch either might be a villain, working for the villain, or brainwashed/manipulated by the villain.
However, after seeing this episode, now I’m wondering if Doctor Strange might somehow become evil at some point in the movie.

and I believe that the watcher did not want to appear at the end, it was just that the doc became so strong that he could not only erase the beginning of the branch, but could also see the watcher xD

This is just foreshadowing what's to come in Dr.Starnge 2 with The Scarlet Witch when she tries to bring her kids and Vision back. Strange will be the one to win at the end but this episode is just to let us answer our question at the end of the film when we ask ourselves... "What if... Wanda would have actually won?"
Mark 8:26? Hmm, by "Time Travel", I think that you meant, "The Time Machine", remake that took too much inspiration from the, "Final Destination", Fantasy movie franchise. "The Time Machine", is an old-fashioned style of, Science-Fiction, novel authored by, Herbert George Wells.
I’m really getting tired of hearing dumb people say that What If isn’t canon and doesn’t have consequences like what do you mean we’ve gotten multiple confirmations from people at marvel especially Feige himself saying it’s literally Canon to The MCU it’s just about the multiverse tho which up until now we have never seen 🤦🏻♂️
The boys were kinda annoying in this one. "Well why doesn't he just try this, it's so obvious!" And then Strange does and it doesn't work and they show he's tried everything. "Well why doesn't he just get over it?" With the same air of condescension as if the show didn't already smack them for being presumptuous and as if they didn't just turn a 180 in mindset after demanding Strange try harder. It's like watching an obese person yell at the TV that their sports team is in pathetic shape.

Pretty sure there is 1 TVA still. The TVA exists on the timeline, at or close to the beginning of time, as its root, with a way to travel to all points on the timeline. The issue I have seen is that people think that the Citadel beyond the end is also the end of time but because it is perceived as a circle; beyond the end is also the beginning. The Change of the TVA is the universe fixing a paradox. If no one is at the citadel then no one founds the TVA and no one makes the propaganda of the timekeepers which means no TVA agents who believe in keeping the flow of time the same way they did when they pick up Loki in the first place. The issue is that with all the changes it is too much for the TVA to handle and the new leader of the TVA doesn't seem to care about the timelines.
The TVA only gets involved to stop a branch in a universe where Kang would come into being. Kang wouldn't ever be born in this universe because Strange destroys it about a thousand years before he would be born.
